Chapter Sixty-Two: I Will Follow You Into The Dark
Tasha didn't sleep that night. Her thoughts keeping her up late, her chest feeling like it would burst at any moment as the emotions built up inside her body. As much as she screamed at her body to stop, it wouldn't listen.
Connor was so hurt. All because of me. Because I turned off my emotions...
Tasha shook her head as she walked into the precinct.
No. If I keep thinking about it, I'm going to spiral down into a dark hole I'll never get out of.
She felt her heart jump the tiniest bit in her chest as she saw Gavin had bruises all over his arms and face.
Did Connor do that?
Tasha couldn't help but smile slightly at the idea of Connor hurting Gavin for touching her. Then she remembered how hurt he looked and she felt her chest tighten.

Where is he anyways?
Connor was never late to work, yet it was several hours after he was supposed to arrive.
Why should I care?
Tasha let out a groan as Hank walked over to her desk. "Connor's talking with Markus."
"Okay... I'm supposed to care why?"
"You were wondering where he was, kiddo."
Tasha scoffed, "No! I — I wasn't."
Hank laughed, "Even without your emotions you're still a terrible liar. You still love him, even if you don't want to admit it."
Tasha's calm demeanour faltered for a moment as a pained expression came to her face.
"When he looks at me, all he sees is a broken toy."
"That couldn't be the furthest thing from the truth, darlin'. That boy loves you."
"He told me I died the day he shot me."
"You know how Connor is with words — he isn't good at saying things."
Tasha shrugged as her calm, empty expression came back to her face.
Hank leaned against her desk, "Connor told me what happened last night."
Tasha didn't look at him. "And?"
"You really think trying to screw Gavin is going to get Connor to back off? If anything you've made him more determined."
Tasha didn't say anything, trying to keep any and all thoughts of Connor away.
Tasha's POV
"I'm not that person anymore!" I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration. "The Tasha Connor loved died the day he shot me. I can't pretend that I'm something I'm not. I can't."
The lies were becoming to much. The hurt the pain all wanted to spill out and devastate my world. But really, what's a world without love? I didn't want to think about any of it. I just wanted to forget, if only for a moment.
But that was impossible. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't calm the tightness in my chest.
"I'm so sick of everyone trying to get my emotions back! Just let the old me go!"
"What you're feeling right now?" Hank stepped over to me, "That's anger. That's an emotion, kiddo."

I took a deep breath, pushing away the anger as I turned to look at him. "Quit pushing me, Hank."
"Quit acting like things are better this way." Hank stepped towards me again, causing me to glare. "You're acting like a brat."
"Quit." I growled, feeling my heart thump faster as I felt the rage flow through me.
3rd Person POV
The anger turned into something else when Tasha heard a child giggling. Hank held up his tablet to her, a video playing of a child and her parents.
Tasha's parents.
My parents.
Tasha's eyes widened as she stared at the screen. How long had it been since she saw anything of them. Months? Years? Tasha reached out, touching the screen as she saw her parents holding her close. As the video ended, Tasha's heart felt heavy and pained.

Tasha's POV
Stop.
Conceal.
Don't feel.
Don't let it show.
"That's a low blow, Hank."
Hank shrugged, "If it's the only way to get your emotions back I'll gladly continue."
"Tasha, it's okay to want to love him —"
That's it.
That's the last fucking straw.
I shoved Hank hard against the wall, my hand crushing his neck with barely any pressure. "Quit pushing me! You know nothing!"
~|>~^ Kill Hank? ^~<|~
Hank was trying to grab at my hand as I pushed harder. "Quit. You should have died years ago. You couldn't protect me! You couldn't protect Cole!"

"Tasha!"
My eyes snapped to the side. Connor's brown eyes were wide as he stared at me.

My body shook as I let Hank go, letting him fall to the ground. "I..." My entire body began to shake as I looked away from Connor to Hank on the ground.
I... I almost killed him.
I almost killed Hank!
Before Connor could stop me I ran past them, tears threatening to spill from my eyes.
No. Stop! It's too much!
I felt like I was going to hyperventilate. I made it to the roof of the precinct, the cold fresh air calming my nerves ever so slightly as I sat on a bench, putting my head between my legs to try and stop my shaking body.
After a few moments I heard footsteps.
"Please, don't." My voice was quiet, "I don't want to hurt you."
The bench moved slightly as Connor sat next to me, staring out at the horizon. "You won't hurt me."
I let out a sad laugh, "I already have..." I felt the tears fall down my face, I wiped them quickly trying to push back everything I was feeling. "I... I shouldn't have done what I did... you didn't — don't deserve that..."

"You're right, you shouldn't have done what you did." Connor replied, his hands clenched in his lap. "But you did. You did, and I stopped it. It's over and done."
I nodded slowly, "By the way Gavin looks I don't think he'll be trying anything on my anytime soon."
Conor smiled slightly. "He deserved it."
He's not wrong.
"I'm..." I took a deep breath, turning to face him, my eyes staring at his chest. "I'm sorry, Connor. I just — I can't be who you want me to be. I'm not the same girl that you fell in love with."
"You're right, you're not the girl I fell in love with." Connor said, causing Tasha to look away quickly. Connor put his hand on her face, slowly turning her head to look at him. "You're so much more than that, you just don't see it. You don't see what I see in you."

"Everything's different..."
"No. Not the way I feel about you." Connor leaned in, pressing his lips to my forehead. "I will always love you, and I'm never giving up on you. You can try to hurt me all you want. You can scream at me. You can hit me. You can do whatever you want — Nothing is going to stop me from loving you."
"I don't deserved to be loved." I said honestly as he pulled back to look into my eyes.
"You deserve all the love in the world." Connor said, wiping my tears away with his thumb.
"I know... and I know you're scared. But you're not alone. I'm here — and I'm still going to be here when you're ready to accept my help."
"You're crying because your humanity's showing."
I slowly pulled away from him, wiping the rest of my tears off onto my sleeve.
"We... we should probably go..." I got up, stopping in my tracks for a moment. I turned around, looking at Connor who had his eyebrows raised in confusion.
"Thank you... for being here for me..." I gave him a small smile before exiting the roof.
Maybe... maybe things will work out...
