Chapter Sixty-Three: Closer Than Before
Tasha's POV
When I finally had calmed myself down I went to my desk, deciding working would be better than doing nothing. After the past twenty four hours, I needed a break. I needed something, anything to distract me from the feelings threatening to ruin my entire existence.
I felt my body tense up as Connor walked over to my desk, his LED whirring a light blue. "Captain Fowler has assigned us a new case."
"What is it? Something good I hope. I've been stuck with paperwork all week." My eyes scanned the room for a moment. "Where... where's Hank?" Fear rose In my chest as a million possibilities ran through my mind.
Is... is he...?

"Tasha?"
My eyes snapped to Connor as I realized I had completely fell into my thoughts. "I... I'm sorry, I didn't hear —"
"Hank is... physically unharmed. He went home." Connor spoke slowly, his LED yellow as he analyzed me. "You were stuck in your head for a minute and fourteen seconds."
"Can... can we please get back to the case at hand?"
Connor pulled up the file on my computer, "You and I will be infiltrating a known drug dealer's mansion to retrieve data on his business ventures."
I hummed in response, taking a sip of water, "Sounds simple enough. What's the plan?"
"You and I are to go undercover as husband and wife."
As soon as his words hit my ears I spit out the water that was still in my mouth. "Us? H-husband and wife?"

"That won't be a problem for you, will it?" Connor asked, his brown eyes watching me intently.
"Of course not." I lied, shrugging nonchalantly. I couldn't help but smile up at him, rather than my usual smirk.
"Good. I'll pick you up at your place at 7pm sharp." Connor leaned down to my ear, causing me to stiffen in my seat.
"The dress code is formal. I've already picked out a dress and it's waiting for you at home."

His hot breath tickled my ear, causing my chest to tighten as I forced a nod, pulling away from him as I felt heat enter my cheeks.
No. Stop that!
"Right. Then I should — probably just, y'know, go get ready." I stumbled over my words as I stood, moving past him.
3rd Person POV
Tasha let out a little squeak as she felt a hand grab her ass. In a single moment the hand was gone. Tasha turned, looking at Connor who had just sat down at his desk.
"Did... did you just...?" Tasha stuttered, her cheeks a pale purple shade as Connor's eyes locked with hers. Though his cheeks were a light blue, his eyes held a look far from embarrassment.
"Is there a problem?"
Tasha just shook her head in reply, sitting down and turning back to her papers.
She couldn't deny the rush she felt when he touched her.
He's getting too close.

Tasha's POV
When I got home, a beautiful purple box was waiting for me. It was covered in glitter — which Connor knew was my favorite. I carefully opened the box, my eyes widening at the dress he had chosen for me.
It was a soft lilac shade, with diamond and glitter accents, the back was open slightly, and the top had purple lace throughout.
It's so beautiful.
I felt my hands shake slightly as I lifted up the dress, holding it to my body as I looked at myself in the mirror.
Pretty.

3rd Person POV
Connor waited anxiously as he stood at Tasha's door. He had been there for quite some time yet hadn't gained the courage to knock. Since the occasion deemed formal attire rather than his usual jacket and slacks Connor was sporting a black tuxe with a black tie, and black dress pants. His usual slicked back, clean hair was styled to fit a different image than he usual portrayed.
Slowly Connor lifted his hand, pushing the doorbell.
It took mere moments for Tasha to open the door, and when she did Connor felt his thyrium pump jolt.
She's so beautiful.
He couldn't help but smile at her. "You... you're ready to go?"
Tasha nodded, locking the house before turning to him. "Yep. Let's get going, lover boy."

Tasha sighed in frustration as she took a sip of wine, her eyes scanning the room for their target. There were androids and humans scattered throughout the ballroom, drinking and partying all towards the unity of all people, and those we were lost along the path to equality.
Ugh, it's so annoying to see these humans and their hypocrisy towards androids.
Tasha thought as she shook her head.
Be nice. We're here for one reason only.
Connor's voice said in her head. It had been so long since she had allowed him to do that — it made her vulnerable.

Too vulnerable.
Tasha felt his presence behind her, and he could feel the heat her body was giving off.
"Which is what exactly, lover boy? Blend in and cozy on up to these sadistic asses?"
Connor took a sip of his wine, "No. We are here to find Orlando Gregoir and get intel on him and his underground operations."
Tasha put her hand to her forehead, "Oh great. Why not just call James Bond? You can be the girl who is overly sexified and is the partner in crime.
Connor glanced over at her, "Oh, c'mon. Stop describing yourself. You know you want to be sexified."
Tasha scoffed, "Yeah, but not by James Bond."
Connor smirked as he grabbed her hand, gracefully pulling her onto the dance floor. Both of their eyes scanned the room for the suspect, but neither could help but glance at each other when the other wasn't looking.
Connor leaned down, his lips close to Tasha's ear. "You look very beautiful by the way."

Tasha was silent for a moment, before she smiled slightly. "You're not so bad yourself."
"Wow, I think that's the first time you haven't used a sarcastic back fire on me." Connor said jokingly as he pulled her body closer.
Tasha rolled her eyes, "Don't get used to it. You're just lucky we're in a public place."
Connor dipped Tasha's body down, supporting her weight with his arms. "Public, huh? Well who's to say that if we were alone, you would be the one whose lucky?"
Before Tasha could respond, Connor pulled her body closer to his, their faces inches apart. Tasha felt her breath hitch in her throat as she stared into his brown eyes.
Is... is he going to kiss me?!

Connor smirked as he pulled her back up gracefully, her head next to his neck. Tasha tried to calm her breathing as she felt butterflies in her stomach. Before Tasha could regain her composure, Connor pulled her back enough to look at her face.
"Oh my, your face has become quite purple, Tasha. Some might say you're blushing." Connor couldn't hide the small smirk on his face.
"I- I don't — What — no — Pssh, I'm just hot because it's like a hundred degrees in here and I'm wearing this dress. My body's just hot, ok?" Tasha stuttered, trying to calm her beating heart and blushing cheeks.
Connor leaned into her, his lips brushing against her ear as he spoke. "I can think of many ways I could cool that hot body of yours down."

Tasha's face flushed again, this time brighter as she pulled away from him. "I-I am going to, Uh, go over there, and you can go... anywhere I'm not." Tasha was flabbergasted as she felt so many things rushing through her system. "I need my personal space, and you—" Tasha pushed her finger against Connor's chest. "Are just waiting for trouble. What a bad boy you are, Connor."
Tasha leaned up, pressing her lips to his cheek before walking to the other end of the room as she used her hand to fan herself.
What the fuck was that back there?
Tasha shook her head as she scanned the area around her, checking for the suspect. Connor did the same, a sense of pride filling him at making Tasha so flustered. He also noted that the suspect was nowhere to be found, but his body guards were posted nearby.
Connor waited a moment before walking over to Tasha, who had seemingly got herself under control as she turned to him with a fake smile. "Anything?"
"I've been unable to locate the suspect, though I was able to track down his body guards. They seem to be heading upstairs."
"Well, I guess that's where we go next." Tasha said as she wrapped her arm around Connor's, allowing him to escort her through the crowd of people.
"Can you find the location of the computer we need to hack?" Tasha asked once they were alone.
"Yes." Connor's LED blinked for a moment. "Down the hall, Room A."
Tasha clicked her tongue in acknowledgement as she walked down the hallway and through the door of the abandoned computer.
"Work your magic, Connor."
Connor nodded, analyzing the security cameras before shutting them down. "That should give us enough time to get the files and get out undetected."
Tasha tapped her fingers impatiently as the drive loaded the files. "God, it's 2039! Why must these things take so long to transfer data?!"
Connor put his hand on her shoulder, "Relax, Tasha. Everything is going exactly to plan."
"Yeah, I guess." Tasha replied, nearly cheering in victory when the drive had finally finished uploading the data.
"Let's get out of here before we're seen."
As they left the room, Tasha felt a sense of pride that their mission had gone unscathed. They got the info, and with it the chance of taking down this sick Human was very high.
The duo could hear footsteps at the other end of the hall, causing them both to look at each other with concerned expressions. As they neared the corner, they listened as the footsteps grew louder.
"What do we do?!" Tasha mouthed, a scared look on her face.
Connor looked from her eyes to her lips, causing Tasha to raise her eyebrows at him. She smiled slightly as she grabbed onto the front of his suit, pulling his body close to hers before kissing him hard on the lips.
When their lips met both felt like they hadn't breathed in a long time. Connor was hesitant due to the shock of it all, but in no time he found himself reaching for her, his hands holding tight to her waist as he shoved her against the wall.

Tasha was the one who pushed further, trailing her tongue along Connor's bottom lip. Connor let his hands trail down her body, grasping at her ass causing Tasha to laugh against his lips.
Two guards rounded the corner to their right, walking past the two making out. When they went through the door, it shut behind them securely.
Though they could've separated by now, neither of them did as Tasha's hands weaved through Connor's hair, pulling his body closer to hers while his hands ran up her bare back. Feeling her bare skin after so long made his entire body shiver, his teeth tugging at her lip gently causing Tasha to let out a shaky breath.

Tasha was the one to pull back, breathing heavily due to the lack of oxygen. Connor's cheeks were blue, while hers were bright purple. They both stared at each other for a while, before Tasha looked down at the ground.
"We — we should probably go before someone suspects we're up to something."
Connor didn't say anything, instead choosing to wrap his arm around her waist, tugging her as close as he could. Tasha allowed this, even though her mind was telling her otherwise.
When they reached the ballroom, Connor immediately pulled her onto the dance floor. "One more dance wouldn't hurt?"
I'm not sure about that. Tasha thought to herself, but smiled slightly at him, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Whatever you say, Connor."
Connor's brown eyes gazed into hers, causing her heart to flutter and her face to heat up. Tasha averted her gaze to the ground, trying desperately to keep the emotions at bay, though she knew it was almost impossible with him this close. His hands gliding over her bare back sending shivers across her entire body. The way he stared at her the entire evening.

Tasha was brought out of her thoughts when Connor slid his hand further down her back, pushing her hips against his subtly, causing Tasha to gasp. Before she could say anything Connor pressed his lips against hers, causing Tasha to let out a moan that only he could hear.
Connor smirked, his brown eyes showing something she hadn't seen before. She couldn't place her finger on it, but she liked whatever it was.
"Remember, this is all an act." Tasha said as she once again averted her gaze to the ground.
"Funny, one could argue that it's really you... But if this is really just a show, I can't wait to visit it again."
"We... we should probably go." Tasha said as she pulled away from his body, not waiting for his response as she walked out to the car.
That was too close.
On the drive back to Tasha's, neither of them spoke a word. The silence wasn't awkward — it was calming, like for one moment things could be normal again.
Maybe they can be.
Connor walked Tasha to her door, an unreadable expression on his face as he stared at Tasha who was holding the doorknob, hesitant to open it.
"I think it's pointless for you to drive to Hank's at this time of night." Tasha said quietly, twisting the doorknob slowly.
Connor found himself smiling ever so slightly. "I agree."
As they walked to her bedroom, Tasha turned her back to him, brushing out her hair. "I find the room gets cold at night." She hummed.
"I think I can keep you warm." Connor said quietly as he approached her, his fingers slowly grazing against her bare back, sending shivers up her spine.
"If you want." Was all she said as she set the brush down, standing still to allow Connor to pull her dress down, setting it neatly on a chair before handing her the shirt she'd usually use at night.

"Thank you." Tasha said as she pulled it over her head, a ghost of a smile on her face as she laid on the bed, staring up at the ceiling.
Connor was hesistant at first, but he couldn't resist the urge to pull her close any longer. His arms wrapped around her waist, bringing her head to rest on his chest.
"Is this so bad?" He whispered, his fingers lightly tracing her skin.
"No." She replied as she nuzzled up against him.
"It's... it's good." Tasha said hesitantly, feeling her chest ache from the emotions that wanted to spill out.
"You sure this is an act? By the way you were kissing me back there you'd have fooled anyone."
Tasha was silent for a moment, feeling tears come to her eyes but she wouldn't let them fall.
"Maybe."
