Chapter Sixty-One: Sanity

Connor's POV

Seeing Tasha without her emotions felt like someone had sucked all the thyrium out of Connor's body and replaced it with ice. She was avoiding him, and wouldn't keep a conversation going unless it pertained to the investigation.

"Hey robo boy."

"Word around the office is our little princess has turned off her emotions."

Connor didn't turn to face Gavin, but rather continued to stare at the screen ahead of him.

"What do you want, Gavin?"

"I just wanted to know if it's true, that your precious Tasha is no longer fawning over you."

Connor ignored him, which only made Gavin smirk. "So it is true. That's why she seemed so different last night. Maybe now that she's over you, I'll show her what a real man is like."

"I would advise against that." Was all Connor said.

"Get the fuck out of here, Reed. If you go near Tasha I'll beat you harder than she did." Hank glared

Reed simply scoffed as he walked back to his desk.

"I hate him." Connor said after a moment. "It's a rare emotion for me to feel but with him, it's constant."

"Yeah, well Reed's a prick." Hank shook his head.

Connor felt like his insides were freezing when he noticed Gavin talking to Tasha from his desk across from hers. She was smiling at him, and it was obvious she was flirting.

Gavin is getting too close to her.

Eventually Tasha left her desk, going over to the break room. Connor followed suit, stopping when he was standing next to her.

"Why am I not surprised you followed me in here?" Tasha yawned, pouring herself a cup of coffee.

"You hate coffee." Connor said, his eyebrows raised in confusion.

"I am aware. It keeps my energy up though." Tasha replied with a shrug of her shoulders, leaning her back against the counter.

"Gavin looks good for a guy who just got out of the hospital."

Connor followed her gaze, feeling the urge to roll his eyes. "We both know you don't find him attractive."

"It's not that he isn't attractive per say, he just isn't my type of man." Tasha replied as she downed the cup of coffee, wrinkling her nose in disgust.

"You should stay away from him." Connor said after a moment, looking at Tasha with a frown. "I don't think it's a good idea for you to—"

"He just wants to use you."

Tasha shrugged, walking away from Connor and sitting back at her desk.

Their shifts were prolonged due to an interrogation needing to be done, while Connor and Hank did that, Tasha remained at her desk, finishing any paperwork she could to distract her from her inner turmoil.

"I'm surprised you're still here."

Tasha didn't look away from her paperwork. "I have nothing better to do. Hank and Connor are interrogating someone, so this is the closest thing I have to freedom."

Gavin hummed in response, leaning against her desk. "I can imagine how frustrating it must be to have Connor follow you around like a lost puppy."

Another shrug. "He does what I want. And I always get what I want." She smirked as she turned in her chair, looking up at Gavin with innocent eyes.

"And what is it you want, Tash?"

"You." She teased, rolling her eyes. "I don't feel anything, Gavin. Good luck trying to seduce me." Tasha smirked up at him again.

"Challenge accepted." Gavin smirked, pulling her hips against his as he attached his lips to her neck.

Tasha let her hands rest against his chest, standing still as his lips moved along the skin. It didn't feel good. It didn't feel like anything. But it was a distraction. Another pull away from her humanity.

Gavin twisted Tasha around, wrapping his arms around her waist as he continued to kiss her neck, pushing his pelvis into her back while his hands moved to her chest, groping the flesh through her clothes.

"Isn't this a bit public?" Tasha inquired, smirking when she felt Gavin grab onto her arm, tugging her into a janitors closet before shutting the door. He shoved her against the wall, pushing his hands under her shirt, kissing her lips hard.

This feels wrong.

No. No, you don't feel anything. What you needed was a distraction and this is a distraction.

Tasha ignored the gut wrenching feeling in her chest as Gavin tossed her shirt to the floor, moving his lips from hers to her chest, biting and sucking on the flesh there.

Stop.

Stop it.

What am I doing?!

This is wrong.

This isn't Connor.

Before Tasha could think anything else, the door to the closet was tossed open and Gavin was pulled off Tasha and roughly slammed against the opposing wall.

"I..." Tasha's face held something as she looked at Connor, a pained expression on his face that made Tasha's chest feel tight, and her eyes became wet, "I don't..."

Connor's eyes were narrowed and his LED was bright red. "Get out of here, Gavin."

"I told you, she wanted a real —"

"I said get the fuck out of here, Gavin!" Connor slammed his fist on the wall next to Gavin's head, making a huge indent into the wall. "Did I not make myself clear?"

Gavin fixed his collar before stepping between the couple. "She wasn't worth it anyway." He shook his head before leaving the room, leaving Tasha and Connor alone.

"Connor... I —"

He put his hand up to silence her, not even turning to look at her, his LED still bright red. Connor turned to walk away, but stopped, his head looking over his left shoulder, but still not looking directly at her.

"I told you..." He said painfully, "I'm never going to give up on us... I'm never going to give up on you. No matter what."

With that he left the closet, leaving Tasha alone with her thoughts.

What have I done?
