Chapter Nineteen: Jealousy

Tasha's POV

I sighed in annoyance as I waited for Gavin to get off of work.

I'm so stupid, why did I agree to this in the first place? Wasting my evening with him while I could've went to Hank's and hung out with Connor and him.

I was brought out of my thoughts as Gavin walked up to me, a smile on his face. "So no cold feet?"

"Oh, trust me — I have things I'd much rather do, but you insist you're a better person now, so let's get it over with, ya?"

Gavin smirked, "C'mon. I have the perfect place in mind."

I was in shock when Gavin took me to one of the most beautiful restaurants I had ever seen. It was one of the ones where you can eat outside.

"Isn't this fancy." I mused as I sat down. He even pushed my chair in.

That bugger.

Connor's POV

Connor knew it wasn't exactly a good idea, but he had to know Tasha would be safe on her date.

He wasn't following them because he liked her or anything.

No, just to make sure she's safe.

Connor tried to remain inconspicuous, mainly keeping a far distant from the two, but when Gavin began to get closer than he liked, Connor moved closer, hiding himself behind the closest tree.

He grabbed onto a tree branch, which broke immediately causing Connor to stumble slightly, causing Tasha to look in his direction.

"Shit."

Tasha's POV

I glanced behind Gavin, and I could see Connor standing behind a tree, staring at me. I bit my lip to keep in a laugh, "I'm going to go to the restroom."

Connor looked like a puppy who was about to get in trouble as he walked into the restroom after me.

"What are you doing here?!"

"I... needed to make sure you were okay."

That's a lie.

Connor was usually one who could lie easily — it was built into his programming but the more human he became, the less he was able to lie.

To me anyways.

I sighed, unable to keep my smile hidden at the gesture. "You could've just called me, or texted."

"I don't like Gavin." Connor said as he looked at her. "He doesn't deserve you."

I sighed deeply, "Connor, it's just dinner! It's not like I'm marrying him. Why are you making it a big deal?"

"That isn't my intention." Connor let out a sigh, which only happened when he was trying very hard to speak his mind. "Just... be careful around him."

I smiled, wrapping my arms around Connor's waist, pulling him into a tight hug.

"Connor, I promise I'll be careful. It's sweet that you care so much, but it's not like this is a date. It's just dinner, okay?"

Connor nodded, pulling away. "I... will leave you to your dinner."

As Connor left the room, I couldn't help but smile. The fact that he was following us just shows how much he does care.

Gavin and I bickered for the most part, but there were moments where I found myself wondering if maybe Gavin wasn't all that bad. He made good jokes, and even when he bugged me, I did it right back.

It was... nice.

As we arrived at my house, Gavin walked me to my door.

"You know, when you're not being a total ass, you're kind of okay."

"Wow, so the princess is complimenting me now?"

"Hey, I said kind of, don't make me take it back."

Gavin smiled at me— it wasn't his usual creepy smile that I was used to, it was something different entirely, "Did I ever tell you you look beautiful?"

I rolled my eyes, "You've called me many things, Gavin, but beautiful is one you've rarely, if not ever used."

"Well, maybe I'll have to use it more often."

"Smooth, Gavin." I rolled my eyes, but was taken aback when he grabbed onto my face, kissing me hard.

It was only a brief moment and his lips were off mine. When he pulled back he smiled. "I'll see you at work."

"Uh— yeah, bye Gavin!" I waved, shaking my head.

I mean, he's not the worst kisser.

I decided not to think much of it as I opened my door, jumping slightly to see Connor there with his LED a dark yellow shade.

"Connor, you're here." I smiled at him, "I didn't think you'd come by — especially after what you did back there."

Connor didn't look at me, focussing his gaze onto the ground. "Did you have a nice evening?"

"Nice?" I laughed. "I had to have dinner with Gavin. What do you think?" I raised my eyebrows as he didn't say anything. "It was tolerable though."

"He kissed you." Connor was blunt as he finally looked up, and I swore I could see anger — no, rage flash through them...

Is he jealous?

Of Gavin?!

"Oh, you saw that?" I frowned, "Yeah that kind of ruined the whole thinking he could change thing but eh what can you do."

"Did you... enjoy it?"

I let out a small laugh, "Connor... the only reason I went out with him was because he helped me out today."

"Hey..." I lifted his chin up, "Connor, talk to me."

Connor's POV

"That man... Jeremiah, who is he?"

"He's someone I thought loved me a long, long time ago." Tasha admitted, a frown on her face. "After my parents died, he was there for me... I really thought we'd have a future together. After a few months I found out he was cheating on me... I left to go to university and never looked back. I haven't heard from him in years and he thinks he can come back and apologize now? Who does that?"

"A stupid man." Connor replied, wrapping his arm around her waist. "May I ask a personal question?"

I nodded, leaning my head against his shoulder.

"Do you... have feelings for him?"

I moved so I could look up at him, my eyebrows raised slightly. "Are you... jealous of him?"

"Yes." Connor looked away from me. "It's an unpleasant feeling."

"I had feelings for him five years ago. But now... he's just somebody that I used to know."

Connor had a small look of relief on his face. "That is... good to hear."

Connor was silent for a moment, "What about Gavin?"

"Hmm?"

"Do you have feelings for Gavin?"

Tasha shook her head, "No, Connor. I've only had feelings for one person for a long time, Connor." I leaned up, pressing my lips against his cheek. "You don't need to be jealous."

Connor wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me into a tight embrace. "I am... relieved to hear that, Tasha."

"Besides, he's a lame kisser." Tasha joked, pinching Connor's cheek playfully. "Too sloppy."

Connor thought on this a moment. "How would one... kiss well?"

Tasha shrugged, "I mean, I don't know, Connor — if you love someone, you definitely love their kissing."

Connor took note of that, the same way he took note of all things Tasha enjoyed.
