Chapter Nine: Something There
I sighed as I leaned against the wall, waiting as patiently as I could while my thoughts drifted into darkness.
As much as Connor had changed since I met him, one thing would never changed.
He would never love me like I love him.
He's an Android. A detective who wants to complete his mission.
He has no feelings for me.
I let out a small sigh as Connor and Hank left the room, walking towards me.
"The more I learn about people, the more I love my dog."
"Excuse me, Lieutenant. Can you come here a second?" Connor asked, looking at Hank for a moment.
"You find something?"
"Maybe." Connor answered, walking over to the Android in a tube.
"Can you rent this Traci?"
"For fuck sakes, Connor, we got better things to do."
"Please, Lieutenant! Just trust me."
I nearly fell over in laughter as Hank purchased the Traci, "Wow, Hank. I didn't know you needed to get laid that bad."
Hank snorted. "Careful, or I might just have to call Gavin back here."
With that my lips were sealed, but I stuck my tongue out at him.
I watched with curiosity as Connor linked his memory with the Android. "It saw something."
"What are you talking about?"
"It saw the deviant leaving the room." Connor replied, "A blue haired Traci. Company policy is to wipe the androids memories every two hours — we only have a few minutes if we want to find another witness!"
"Then we better get looking, darling." I replied, walking past the two men to search for the Blue Haired Traci.
"Uh, Connor... what am I supposed to do with this?!" I heard Hank call out as the Android began tugging on his arm.
"Tell It you changed your mind!" He called back as he caught up to me.
I could overhear Hank fluster with the Android. "Uh, Sorry, honey... changed my mind... it's nothing personal, but you can see I'm with him — not with him, with him.. but - yknow-"
"Hank!" I yelled, "Less talk, more looking!"
Connor began to look through any Android's memories to try to locate the Blue Haired Tracy, but nothing worked out. Eventually I found the back room where they wiped the memories.
"Connor!" I called, pointing towards the Android with Blue Hair.
As soon as I called her out, another Android grabbed me by the arm, pushing me into a pile of boxes. "Gah!"
I quickly regained my balance as I ran at the Android, pushing her against the boxes. "Stay down!" I yelled, but she pushed me back, slamming me hard into the wall, making me dizzy for a few moments.
"Tasha, stop!" Hank yelled as I ran after the Traci into the alley.
I let out a squeal as the Android threw me hard against the stone wall, knocking the wind out of me. I gasped in pain as I was left to watch the scene play out in front of me.
The two androids were in love. All they wanted was to be free.
It was beautiful, in it's own way.
I was relieved when Connor spared them, allowing them to run off into the night, together and finally free.
I'd give anything to run away with Connor.
I shook my head, trying to push the thought away.
It took no time at all for Connor to run over to me, his hands immediately on my body causing me to flush slightly. "Are you hurt?" Connor asked as he pushed me onto my back so he could examine my body. His blinker was a dark yellow shade, making me cock my head at him for a moment.
It's probably because he let them go and he's unsure of his decision.
It couldn't be because I'm hurt.
I groaned in pain as he tried to pull me from the ground. "I-I'm fine, Connor." I insisted, trying to grab at his arm.
Connor put his hand on my waist, holding me up. "You're bleeding." He lifted my shirt up to expose a small gash along my stomach.
"I'll be fine, Connor." I repeated, holding onto his arm to keep myself standing while trying to pull my shirt back down. "It's just a scratch!"
"I should not have let them go." Connor said as he sat me down against a chair.
"I'm glad you let them go." I said quietly, staring off at the spot the two lovers had run off towards. "All they wanted was to be free, and be together with no one to tell them what to do."
"They could have killed you." Connor replied, not looking at my face but instead at my wound.
"But they didn't," I replied, grabbing onto his hand to force him to look at me. "Connor ..." I smiled softly at him, my heart beating faster as I saw a worried look on his face. "You don't have to worry about me."
Connor stared at me for a moment before taking off his tie, using it to wipe the blood off of my abdomen. "You make decisions that put yourself in danger. Tell me, how do I not worry about you?"
"Connor... I don't try to put myself in harms way. I just want to do my job. Really, you don't have to worry about me, I'll be okay."
Connor didn't say anything after that, he patched me up, and then he remained silent the entire drive home.
When he stopped the car he wouldn't look at me. He stared straight forward. I could feel heart sink every moment he didn't acknowledge my presence. It was like he was in a complete other world to me.
Maybe he is.
I leaned over, pressing my lips to his cheek gently. "Goodnight, Connor."
I slowly got out of the car, feeling incredibly sore and exhausted as I walked towards my house. As my legs were about to give out, I felt arms wrap around my waist.
"Connor," I breathed out in relief, wrapping my arms around his neck as he lifted me up into his arms, pulling me into the house. He carried me into my bedroom, moving the blankets so he could lay me under them.
I watched him with curiosity, uncertain what his next move would be.
"I'd like to stay." Connor said after a long moment, looking down at me with concerned eyes. "If you'll allow me."
I smiled at him, reaching my hand out to caress his face. "I'd like that, Connor."
Connor leaned in to my touch — whether voluntarily or out of habit I had no clue. But I allowed myself to enjoy it.
"You need rest." Connor said gently, as he slowly removed my hand from his face, setting it onto the bed as he began looking around my room.
He's the most curious person I know.
As I laid in bed, I glanced over at Connor who was looking at the photos on my desk. He slowly picked up the biggest one, focusing on it intently. "These are your parents."
I frowned slightly, "Yeah, that photo was taken when I was—"
"Fourteen." Connor answered for me, setting the frame down and picking up the photo of Hank and I at my university graduation.
"Connor — come lay down."
Connor turned to me, his eyes widened slightly and I could swear I saw his cheeks turn the slightest shade of pink. "Tasha, I — you need rest."
I rolled my eyes playfully, pouting my lips out at him. "I mean, I guess if you don't want to lay next to me..." I began sigh, turning my back to him.
"No- I-" Connor paused for what felt like a life time, as if he was having a debate within himself.
"I'd like to lay with you, Tasha."
I heard him step towards the bed, feeling his weight shift as he sat down next to me. I could feel the hesitation radiating off of him. "C'mon, Connor, I won't bite." I teased, though my entire body felt like it was on fire from his close proximity.
To my surprise, Connor chuckled. Slowly he laid down next to me, I could feel him inch closer to me, though he was still about a foot away.
"Is this... is this okay?" He asked quietly, sounding unsure of himself.
"Yes," I breathed out, biting my lip as I felt my body heat up even more at the idea of him being so close. "You... you can move closer... if you'd like to..." I trailed off, secretly hoping he would want to lay closer.
To my delight, Connor moved as close to me as he could, his body against mine , his head resting just above mine. "Like this?" He asked, his close proximity causing shivers to go down my spine.
I nodded, "Y-yeah..."
After a few minutes of comfortable silence, I felt Connor move his arm. So slowly at first, but eventually I felt his fingers against my side, slowly slipping under my arm — effectively wrapping his arm around my waist, pulling my body as close to his as physically possible.
I felt his hand against my stomach, his fingers lightly touching the bare skin due to my shirt being lifted to my mid stomach.
"Thank you, Connor." I whispered, leaning against him comfortably.
"Go to sleep," Connor whispered soothingly into my ear, "I'll be here when you wake up."
