Chapter 133: Reconcile
Another day passed and Tasha finally had the guts to try to talk to Connor. Tasha felt guilty for her actions, even though she was on a break from being with Connor, she still knew it was wrong. She shook her head, trying to focus when Hank answered the phone.
"Kid, is that you?"
"Hey Hank, I was wondering if Connor—"
All of the sudden there was a loud commotion and a grunt could be heard from Hank as another voice spoke.
"Tasha?"
Tasha felt her heart race at the sound of his angelic voice. "Connor?"
"I didn't — I didn't know if you would want to talk to me." He spoke softly, and she could tell he was nervous.
"I... Can..." She sighed as she tried to regain her composure and nerve, "I want to see you. Today..."
"I'll meet you by the river at 6pm. Does that sound alright?"
Tasha smiled slightly at his calculated voice. "Y-yeah, Connor. I'll... I'll see you there, alright?"
The line went dead and Tasha sighed deeply as she got ready to meet him. She wasn't sure how she felt, but she knew she wanted to make up with him. She was sick of fighting with Connor because of the pregnancy, and she wasn't going to leave without them having a proper conversation for once.
When Tasha arrived at the park, she noticed Connor was leaning against the tree, staring at the sun which was slowly beginning to set. She hummed subconsciously as she walked over to him, until silence overtook her being as guilt rose in her mind and heart the closer she got to her husband.
"Connor?"
He turned to her, smiling one of the most happiest smiles she had ever seen him do. "Tasha, I-" He seemed stuck in his head for a moment. "I'm very glad you came."
"I told you I would." She smiled slightly as she stood next to him, her eyes gazing towards the sunset.
"I just, after how I've treated you I wouldn't have blamed you if you didn't show." Connor said, his gaze still on her face. She looked radiant, her skin almost glowing in a way.
"That's why we're here. I... I can't live without you, Con. And... I want us to talk through this. That's what a couple is supposed to do... but you— you completely shut me out."
"I... I know and it was wrong of me to do so." Connor sighed as he looked down at her, unable to keep from smiling even the smallest bit from her presence.
Tasha noticed this, and too smiled. "I... Connor, I just want things to go back to normal... I miss you so much and — and I know that you don't want the baby, but —"
"No!" Connor exclaimed instantly, making Tasha's eyes widen slightly as he continued to speak. "Tasha, I want — I want to have this child with you."
Tasha blinked a few times before looking at him. "What?"
Connor's eyes were bright as he smiled at her. "I want to have this child with you." He repeated, slowly grabbing onto both of her hands.
"But... but then why were you avoiding me?! Ever since I had told you I was pregnant, you've been cold to me..."
"I'm so sorry I hurt you, I didn't intend for any of that." Connor held her hands tightly in his. "I— I was scared. I'm an Android, and I'll always be inadequate in my own eyes, for you."
"Connor, no—"
"I realize now that I hurt you because of my own insecurities. I don't know how to be a father. I don't know any of it, and it terrifies me. I don't want to fail you. I love you, more than anything, Tasha... I'd never want you to destroy the life we've made."
Connor's hand slowly moved to her tiny protruding belly, caressing it with a small smile.
"I've been completely stupid. I'm not human. I'll never be human." His brown eyes met hers. "I'm scared I'll let you down. I can't give you what a human partner could give to this— our child, I—I just love you so much and when I researched pregnancies I read the death rates of pregnant woman and all I could think of was you dying because of the baby." Connor had tears in his eyes. "I can't — the mere thought of anything happening to you—"
"Connor." Tasha brought his hands to her face, "Nothing is going to happen to me. The chances of me dying due to pregnancy are very low."
"Yes but there's still a possibility."
"There's a possibility for anything bad happening, Connor. That's just life. Do you think I'm not scared? I'm fucking terrified! I don't know how to be a mother. I just, I knew I could do it if I had you by my side, and then you..." she trailed off, frowning.
"I'm so sorry." Connor pulled her against him, tears falling down his face. "I love you, I love you so much. I'm so sorry, Tasha."
"Connor, shh, it's okay." Tasha hugged him, kissing his jaw soothingly. "I love you— and I'm here. I'm not going anywhere."
Connor kissed her, smiling happily. "Till death do us part, and then forever after."
Their little infinity faded as Tasha recalled what had finally pushed her to talk to Connor again. Why she had wanted to see him and make up. When Tasha pulled away from him, her lips held a frown as her eyes cast towards the floor.
"What's wrong?" Connor asked quietly.
Tasha sighed deeply, "Connor... there's something I need to tell you. It... it has to do with Gavin — after you and I fought he drove me home last night... He stayed and... and Gavin and I—"
"I don't care." Connor interrupted as he pulled her lips back to his.
"But Connor—"
"Gavin told me what happened." He pulled back, his brown eyes gazing into hers. "I'm not mad at you, Tasha. I could never be mad at you. He was there when I was not, I understand."
She shook her head, guilt written all over her face. "It was wrong, I shouldn't have—"
"Tasha." Connor pressed his lips to her forehead, lifting their hands as he interlocked them. Their skin disappeared as their minds connected.
Connor didn't want to see her being intimate with Gavin, but luckily he didn't have to see much. He could feel what she felt and he could feel the pain and anger she had towards Connor. The idea of someone else touching her angered him, but the sight of her crying in the mirror the next morning completely melted the anger away
Tasha felt Connor's feelings while he was being standoffish. It was as though she finally understood him entirely.
"I love you." Connor said as he leaned down, kissing her hard. "I'm so sorry. I love you so much. I'm never going to leave you. We're going to have babies — as many as you'd like."
Tasha giggled against his lips, "I love you too, dork. Let's start with one for now." She said as she placed his hand on her stomach. It still wasn't visible, but he could sense its life in her uterus.
"While I am not angry at your... intimate moment with Gavin, I would highly appreciate it not happening again—"
"Connor, you don't have to worry about that."
"I know." Connor smiled. "I'm teasing you... dork."
"You can't just take my name for you!" Tasha said defensively as she grinned.
When they both got into the car, Connor interlocked his fingers with Tasha's. He glanced over at her while they were stopped at a red light and he couldn't help but smile. She had the window down, the wind blowing her hair away from her face, the dim light coming from the sky illuminating her skin in a breathtaking way.
Connor knew things couldn't go back to normal right away. He had fucked up and it was going to take time to mend things entirely, but seeing her like this, her gaze turning to him and a smile on her face, it made his heart beat faster.
"I love you."
