Chapter 119: Home is Where the Heart is

Working with Gavin became second nature to Tasha. She enjoyed driving around with him, even doing paperwork with him. He was still a douche, but not nearly as bad as he once was. She was glad that she didn't work with him all week though, since he still enjoyed making her go crazy. She was pleasantly surprised with how well Gavin and Connor had been getting along. They even made small talk. She was proud of both of them for setting aside their differences.

After a lengthy case, Gavin and Tasha stopped to get food on the ferry while on their way back to the precinct. After Tasha had finished eating she went to the railing of the ship, watching the water move beneath her.

Gavin smiled slightly as he went over to her, "I know that face. What's on your mind, Tash?"

Tasha shook her head, "It's nothing..."

"Nothing is ever nothing with you, sweetheart." Gavin chuckled, "C'mon, what's on your mind?"

Tasha sighed, "You know I'm getting married."

"Really?! I had NO idea!" Gavin pushed her slightly. "No shit, Sherlock. It's not something easy to forget." Gavin rolled his eyes.

"Well — Hank is walking me down the aisle, and he is also Connor's best man."

"Okaaaay?" Gavin furrowed his brows trying to figure out why she was bringing this up now.

"And you know, since I'm the bride I have my bridesmaids."

"I didn't know you had any female friends." Gavin teased.

"Ha ha." Tasha rolled her eyes. "Anywaaays, I — I was thinking, right? I mean, we're pretty close and... and you're one of my best friends."

Gavin smiled, glancing over at her. He noticed Tasha's cheeks were flushed in embarrassment, and she was gazing down at the water. "Tasha, What is it?"

Tasha took a deep breath, "Would... do... I want you to be up there with me."

Gavin blinked a few times. "Huh?"

"I — well, you mean a lot to me, yknow? And I want you to stand with the bridesmaids because you're my best friend too." Tasha's blush deepened as she turned her face away. "I — it was stupid of me to ask. You probably don't want to come to the wedding anyways, and —"

"Tasha."

"— I shouldn't have even brought it up. I mean it's not like you'd wanna stand up there anyways, let alone—"

She was rambling, not listening to his words.

"Tasha!"

Gavin grabbed onto her shoulders, pulling her to face him. "Calm down."

"Sorry." Her blush deepened. "Just forget I said anything, okay?"

"Do you honestly think I wasn't going to come to your wedding?"

"Well, I — I wanted you too but I get it if you don't want to. Really, it's fine." She forced a smile, but Gavin saw right through it.

"You're a terrible liar, sweetheart." Gavin shook his head. "Do you forget I'm a Detective too?"

Tasha opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by Gavin.

"I would — I'd be honoured to be up there with you, Tasha." He gazed down at her, the smile that came to her face reassuring himself that all of this was worth it if she was happy.

"R-really? You don't have to—"

"I want to." Gavin ruffled her hair. "Besides, I wanna watch you trip up close."

Gavin smirked as Tasha shoved his shoulder. "I. Will. Not. Trip!"

"Oh, sureeeee you won't." Gavin shook his head, "How much do you wanna bet Hank is gonna fall into the river?"

"Yeah, the poor bastard better bring his swimming trunks."

"Can I ask you something, Tasha?"

Tasha looked over at Connor, raising her eyebrows when she noticed the serious expression on his face as he looked at her. "Uh oh, you're using your serious face."

"I'm always serious." Connor said as the corner of his mouth turned up into a small smile. "I just have been thinking a lot recently and wanted to talk to you about it."

"What, are you getting cold feet?" Tasha teased, sitting next to him on the couch.

"Why would my feet be — oh!" Connor smiled slightly when he finally understood the joke. "No, it's most definitely not that. I just — " He was quiet for a moment as his LED whirred yellow. I wonder if he'll ever take it off.

"What are your feelings towards Detective Reed?"

Tasha was taken aback by his question. His brown eyes gazed into hers, waiting patiently for her answer. "My feelings... towards Gavin?" Tasha scrunched her brows together. "He's one of my best friends. I've known him a long time. You know that."

"Yes, but that isn't what I'm asking." Connor said as he sat closer to her.

"You — do you think I like Gavin? As in, like like, Gavin?"

Connor closed his eyes for a moment, "Yes, the term 'like like' is another way to put it, I suppose."

Tasha slumped back against the couch, "I'm in love with you."

"I am well aware of that, dear." Connor gently pushed her hair away from her face. "But again, that isn't what I'm asking. You evading the question is an answer in itself."

"I am not evading the question! It's just... a stupid question." Tasha huffed in annoyance. "I — Gavin is my friend. He's one of my best friends."

"So your feelings towards him are completely platonic?"

Tasha frowned slightly, "I — that's not fair! You know I had a thing for him before you came into my life."

Connor smiled slightly. "I'm not going to be upset, hurt or angry at whatever your answer is, Tasha. What would hurt me is you lying about how you feel."

Tasha sighed, looking up at Connor. "I don't know, Connor. Maybe? I mean, I don't really see anyone other than you in a romantic way at all— to be honest I haven't found anyone else attractive since I met you...But Gavin Reed is a mystery to me. He's kind and gentle when you'd expect him to just be a total douche."

Connor chuckled, but said nothing as he continued to look at her.

"I liked Gavin for a long time, Connor. It isn't something that just goes away... Yeah, ok? Maybe I like him a bit but it doesn't matter. We're just friends."

"I'm not worried about that." Connor chuckled again, resting his hand on her leg as he brushed his thumb against her skin, "I just want you to know you can talk about your feelings of Gavin to me."

Tasha looked at Connor with a startled expression, "Well, there's not much to say, to be honest. I just ignore them. I know nothing good will come from it so why feel it?"

"Because it is real." Connor replied, his brown eyes gazing at hers. "Deep down, you know this... maybe you, in this moment don't but my love, your feelings for Gavin are genuine and real, it's love—"

"It's not love!" Tasha pulled back from his grasp, but Connor held her leg in place, "What the hell, Connor?"

Connor remained entirely calm as he caressed her cheek. "I understand this is confusing for you, my love, but trust me when I say, I may know you better than you even know yourself. I am aware you would not leave me, nor would you proceed to advance your interactions with Gavin, but pushing these feelings away is not good for you, it's toxic and I do not want you to feel as if you can't come to me."

"Connor..." Tasha smiled at him, gently pecking his cheek. "You don't have to worry about me."

"But I do." He replied, "I... I just want you to be happy, Tasha. In my life that is all I want."

"Then you should be happy, because you make me very happy."

"I am." Connor smiled, "Will you talk to me about Gavin and your feelings for him?"

Tasha nodded slowly, leaning back against the couch, not looking away from him. "Okay, so when I met Gavin he was the typical bad boy type, right? He's also a lot older than me, and typically in my life I like older men. Take you for instance, you may be very young, but your body is that of a thirty year old. Anyways, we would flirt and stuff but nothing really came of it. Then one day he just started being a total dick, and I mean, you saw how he acted towards me."

"He was a very cruel individual. Did you ever ask him why began to treat you as such?"

Tasha shook her head, "No. he's apologized numerous times though, and I honestly just try to forget everything from before I met you. After you came into my life, you're really all I saw. Once Gavin and I became friends again, the attraction was still there but it wasn't the 'I want to date you' type of attraction—"

"Is it sexual attraction?"

"No! Jesus, Connor." Tasha sighed, "No, it wasn't like that either, it... every time I noticed him changing, I knew it was because he wanted me to be happy. I always find myself asking why. When you two started to get along I was so happy because I didn't have to deal with you two bickering anymore. I don't know how I feel, it's just... different." Tasha shrugged.

"You don't know, do you?"

"Know what?"

Connor just smiled, shaking his head. "I love you very much, I hope you know that. It is quite adorable how easily you miss the simplest of things."

"Rude!" Tasha sighed dramatically. "When did you... how long have you known?

"After the rebellion, when Gavin began being kinder is when you began to show subtle signs of attraction towards him."

"And you're not jealous?" Tasha rested her hands against his chest.

"I never said that." He leaned down, pressing his lips against hers, a smile on his face. "But you're mine. He doesn't get to have you." Connor began to press kisses along her shoulder. "He can flirt with you all he wants, you can like him, I honestly don't care of either, as long as you are happy... though, I would prefer that you remain mine, and only mine."

"I am only yours, Connor." Tasha grinned pulling his lips to hers. "I'm in love with you... and I don't flirt with Gavin on purpose, you know."

"I am aware. You are very naive when it comes to his advances." Connor laughed, causing Tasha to glare at him.

"Careful, or you'll have a runaway bride." She teased.

"Oh, I highly doubt that. You are not getting any until our wedding day."

"Ummmm excuse me?!"

Connor chuckled, "It's supposed to make the wedding sexual intercourse more intense."

Tasha just shook her head, knowing better than to argue with Connor about his mission.

A/N: Okay so like I'm pretty sure everyone saw this coming. Connor is smart, he knows that there is some type of attraction between Gavin and Tasha — he knows Gavin loves her, and he's pretty sure Tasha loves him in some way, but Connor being Connor puts Tasha first. But as we see, Tasha is in love with Connor. She cares a lot about Gavin and isn't quite sure what it is, but she is not in love with him. She will always be in love with Connor as he is her soulmate imo. I hope this makes sense since I know I'm gonna get "UM NO GAVIN CAN FCK OFF"

Anyways I hope you enjoyed! Please comment anything you'd like to see (and yes I see those comments about robo babies ;p)
