Fifty-Four - Linkin
The plane ride was long and tense and I was willing to pick a fight with anyone who was willing to. After I had snapped at everyone, including Thierry, enough to learn their lesson, it was quiet. I had never felt so relieved to land in my life. Of course, things were only just beginning.
The sound of the engines died as we stepped off the plane and a short Asian girl, bundled up in a parka for the Canadian winter watched us as we walked off, but only addressed one of us, "Robin, it's good to see you again."
We were all more or less prepared for the winter, but it was something different about seeing it. Though the tarmat was clear, nothing else was. My eyes lifted to the sky as I exhaled sharply, my breath created a cloud in front of me before dissipating. It was the only one in the sky. It was so blue, almost amplified by the cold and the white which collected in the feet on the edges of the cleared tarmat. "Four," Stuart nodded. "Can we do the meeting somewhere warm? It's cold."
"I don't want anyone in the car until I know they're trustworthy." Just like that, the beauty of the north was lost and my icy gaze landed on the girl. "We need to have a-"
"No," I stated and shook my head. I rolled my eyes and everyone was quiet as they watched the ticking time bomb which was me. "We've been on a plane for fourteen fucking hours to get here. We're all committed and if there is a question of that, I'd be more than happy to grab a hold of you and show you how committed we are."
Four tilted her head as she looked at me and I didn't flinch. "Is that a threat, Two?"
I took a step forward. "What did you call me?" I hissed venomously.
Though she was shorter than me, she kept her head high as I approached her, "What, don't like the name your Masters gave you. You are their pet, are you not, Two? That's why Robin had to go and rescue you."
My gloveless hands clenched into fists at my side. "Are you dumb or just a bitch?"
"Linkin don't," Ira muttered, stepping forward. It seemed she was the only one brave enough to tell me no.
After my conversation with Asmar, I was not in a happy mood. I was mad, mad at myself for thinking I'd ever be free from a controlling organization - Oasis Project or the criminal world. I was no better than a dog on a leash and this dog would happily bite the hand which fed it. "What, all I asked was what she said. Was giving the girl the chance to rethink her words or I'll get back on that plane with Thierry and whomever else will leave and you'll never find us again." I watched Four's mind race, gears grinding as she attempted to find words and I smirked, tilting my head. "What, no apology? I better hear one before I give you the blueprints and the name of everyone who works there and where they should be." I glanced back to Ira as she stood by with a hand out, ready to stop me if I did something stupid. "Go on, tell her how helpful my memory can be. I'll be waiting in the car," I growled and headed for the first black SUV and let myself in.
Thierry was only seconds behind and sliding in with me, "Tina... Is there something wrong?" He had no idea.

The drive wasn't long, but it was tense. Yulian, Thierry, and I were all in one vehicle, Four decided to drive with Ira and Stuart, a smart decision. During the ride, Thierry was worried, he admitted so. He said he knew someone was wrong and begged me to tell him. How could I tell Thierry that I was being tracked and threatened because it was the price I agreed to paid to be back with him?
Thierry would blame himself if he knew that, but it was all my fault, my cross to bear. The Deviation compound was an abandoned prison. Signs were on the gated, barbed wire fence warning radiation exposure. I was just being filled with more questions. Still, the gate opened for us and we were taken inside. The building was warm, dimly lit, and the air wasn't as stuffy as I thought it was. Most of the rooms were tarped over and I questioned if the lack of stuffiness was due to the impending radiation poisoning which could be waiting behind any of the doors.
Four walked into the room; she seemed to be more behaved as she motioned for us all to follow her. "Don't go into any room which is tarped. The radiation levels are low enough to be less harmful to us, but never had any normals walking through here before."
"We can still get cancer, radiation poisoning," I objected, glancing to Thierry who shared my concern.
"Can we?" She shrugged as she continued walking down the straight concrete hall and to a room which must have once been the dining hall, now, it was the command room. A large table ran along the centre of the room, the smallest back wall also had a string of desks and computers, all currently empty.
The room certainly didn't hide the fact that we were in a poisonous prison. Fitting. I didn't speak as I brushed past Four as she took off her jacket and hung it over the chair at the head of the table as she ran her fingers through her hair. "What are you doing?" Four objected as I ripped a piece of paper in half.
"Writing down what I need," I muttered as I scribbled the same equipment list I had given Stuart now with a few more - including an ultrasound machine.
"Your office is back there if that was what you needed," she pointed to a corner in the back.
It was a single monitor on a table which was just large enough to hold it along with a fold-up chair. I laughed coldly and quickly added in everything wrong with the space she had provided me and what was needed to rectify it - including three more walls. "This is my list of demands." I pushed the note forward and Four took it.
She didn't even look as she stuffed it into her pocket, "Just... Sit. Two, you and I can go over that later, but we have work to do. Before I even decide to allow any of you into the field, I need to make sure you're reliable and both mentally and physically fit." Her eyes narrowed at Thierry at the last remark, then drifted to me.
