New Direction
Eveningstar was just flying around when all of a sudden, Lush pretty much rams into him. They almost fell out of the sky.
He was still trying to get his breath back when Lush said, "We need you to come with us."
"We?" he asked. Lush was so jittery he wondered what was wrong with her.
Lush shook her head. "Just come with me. I'll explain later." Then she just shot off. Eveningstar followed close behind. Whatever Lush wanted was apparently important.
They went over the mountains surrounding the territories. Of course, it was just an illusion. The real mountains were just in the Earth and Wind territory.
They were circling the forest outside of the territories. A glimmer of light caught their attention. A Nymph was directing their attention by reflecting the light from a seashell.
Eveningstar landed in front of her. She was truly a sight to see. Metallic blue skin, her emerald hair, and firefly eyes. He tilted his head in curiosity. "You look different than many other Nymphs."
The Nymph was surprised and pleased of what he said. "You aren't going to criticize how I look?" she said. "How I'm different? That I shouldn't be here?"
"Why would I say that?" Eveningstar asked. He shifted uncomfortably. He has never been outside the Dark territory.
"It's just how many creatures approach me." Lush landed beside Eveningstar. "So this is Eveningstar?"
Lush nodded. "Yes. This is Eveningstar. Eveningstar, this is Sapphire. A Sea Nymph if you didn't know that."
"She's a very strange Nymph, but who am I to judge?" Eveningstar sighed. "It's not like anyone would really give me a chance."
Sapphire looked understandingly. "I would ask why, but we have to go somewhere."
"Where are we going?" Lush asked. A shiny beetle crawled over her talons. It buzzed up to her ear. She didn't even flick the beetle away.
"I honestly don't understand it," Sapphire said. "But something is pulling me toward the east."
"I guess we go there. It is the only thing we got," Lush said. She spread her wings and jumped in the air.
Eveningstar crouched. "Get on."
Sapphire eyes widened. "Get on? You mean on you?"
He looked at her questionably. "Yes, I mean on me. Unless you Nymphs can secretly fly."
"No, no." She jumped onto his back and they flew after Lush. They flew toward the east, where the sun was still rising.
Sapphire looked down, and regretted it immediately. They were level with the clouds. Heights weren't really her thing. Actually, being in the air, instead of water, knowing that if you fell and hit the ground you will die, was terrifying! It was so easy to be jealous of the Dragons. They can fly!! They don't have to worry about falling!!
Lush and Eveningstar cruise along the currents. If the currents got too strong, they went to a weaker one. Sapphire just kept her face against Eveningstar's neck.
Eveningstar felt her petrified on his back. He honestly felt bad for her. Being different, something she couldn't even help, and they insult her for it. He knew how that felt.
It was sunset by the time they reached the coast. Waves crashed against the shore. Clouds were flashing in the distance.
"I guess we sleep here tonight," Eveningstar said. He looked up at the stars that were out wistfully. How he just longed to be in the sky when it was full of stars.
Guilt and shame burned within him. He left his family without saying good-bye. He just left them while flying with a Nature Dragon and a Sea Nymph. Which he has no idea why they wanted him to come with him!!
Eveningstar sighed. Lush looked up. She got up, sat by him, and nudged his shoulder. "I'm sorry," she said. "Sapphire told me that we needed you. I just met you today, but I feel like I'll know you for a lifetime. This Nymph is serious. I believe her." Her eyes shone bright.
He had a small smile. "Yeah. But I wish I could've told my family. They must be worried for me."
"We should've let you say goodbye," Sapphire said. "Instead of just rushing off like that." She looked down at her feet, she was twisting the heel of her foot into the ground.
"It's alright," Eveningstar said. "Or at least to my sister. She's means a lot to me especially, since she is a pretty good target for other Dragons. Besides being a Dark Dragon, she is a bit shrimpy. They make fun of her for it. I always stay at her side when our parents aren't."
Poor Darkstar, he thought. How panicked she must be, because all of a sudden, he was gone.
"Don't worry, Eveningstar," Lush said. "We'll try to finish this. My parents will be worried too. But the excitement of this adventure makes me less anxious." Her eyes were transfixed on the appearing stars. "And the night is beautiful. I really haven't paid much attention to it, until now."
Sapphire sat right next to her, transfixed as well. Eveningstar sprung open his wings, making them jump.
"What are you doing?" Lush asked. The wind picked up a little. The tide was starting to come in.
"I'm going to fly for a bit. Don't worry, I'll be back before the storm hits." He flew off before they could answer.
How he longed to do this freely. To wander through the starlit sky. Everything was so beautiful. How it made him feel strong, exhilarated, and free.
This is what the other Dragons have kept from him. Trust had nothing to do with this.
The storm closed in. Eveningstar flew back to Lush and Sapphire.
They were asleep in a cave from the rocky part of the shore.
Eveningstar fell asleep right next to them, wondering what will happen next.
