After a very romantic night between Zhan and me, we then headed to the Council in the morning in the Xiao's car. I had actually assumed that the council was behind the barrier of the portal. But that is not so at all. And so we drove for hours through the country and it became more and more clear to me why Zhan's parents had planned several days when they were called to the council.

It was already night when we reached a huge forest. We had to leave the car because there was only a very long small path there. Fog was slowly gathering and sounds could be heard from everywhere. With some noises it ran me really cold down the spine. It was more than creepy.

It got worse when we finally got closer to the house. The fog had become denser and made the sight of the old house worse, which was lit up with a scary green light. It was like something out of a horror movie. Or no, it was worse than in a horror movie. This was real!

I always thought that nothing could upset me so easily. But this house really scared me. I imagined what this old mansion would look like during the day. I assumed that it must look impressive. The architectural style and that it was perfectly adapted to its surroundings.

But it wasn't daytime right now, and then Zhan also explained to me that we were in an always-night forest. "The sun never shines here. Because it's an always-night forest, where there's only one time of day. And that is night." He explained.

So we must have passed through some kind of portal, right? Where else on this earth would there be such a forest where it is always night?

Two men in long black robes, with their hoods pulled down far into their faces, approached us. In the old vampire language, they asked why we were there. Zhan spoke to them and the two let us go on. They followed us until we arrived at the front door.

When the door opened and I didn't see anyone who had opened it for us, I got goosebumps. A cold breeze came towards me and a woman's scream could be heard from somewhere. I grabbed Zhan's hand and pulled him to me. I pushed him behind me and took one of my blades out of my boot.

"Stay behind me." I whispered to Zhan.

Then I felt someone touch the back of my neck. I hastily wheeled around and reached for the person touching me. But there was nothing but mist. My heart was racing and all I could think about was protecting Zhan. And then Zhan gave me a kiss on the cheek and called into the house, "Oh come on. Do you guys have to put on a show like this every time?" I looked at Zhan in confusion and the next moment the lights were turned on.

An old man stood laughing at the light switch. Two more men stood at the top of the stairs and a woman stood about a meter away from Zhan and me. "Sorry Zhan. But we knew you were bringing a human here and wanted to have a little fun." Said the man at the light switch.

"Not funny." Replied Zhan.

"Hey did you see how the human stood protectively in front of Zhan? Really impressive." Said the woman.

A man with long black hair and wearing a black robe approached us. He took my hand and ran his hand over my hand and forearm. "Oh, he is not an ordinary person. He is very strong and more than healthy. What do you do for a living, human?" He asked me.

Zhan put his head on my shoulder and clung to my arm. With sparkling eyes he answered for me, "He is an assassin." He sounded really proud when he said that.

In the duration of a blink of an eye, the old man came over from the light switch and grinned broadly. "An assassin yes? And you're here with Zhan because you're officially mating aren't you?"

"Yes." I said curtly.

"Oh how wonderful. An Assassin in our ranks, that would really be too nice. And Assassin, are you sure you want to be a vampire?"

"Yes"

"Why?"

"Because I want to be with Zhan for all eternity. A human life with him is not enough for me."

"Oh you are really very much in love with each other. I can feel your love for Zhan. It is very strong and very honest. But let's go to the lounge and have a drink first. You must be exhausted from the long journey."

"A little." Said Zhan.

We went to the lounge which made my heart beat faster. The lounge was actually a kind of weapons display with some seating. All kinds of weapons were hanging everywhere. Like a kid in a toy store, I ran from one weapon to another, admiring them. 

And then one of the council members took out a very valuable knife from a display case. He handed it to me so that I could take a closer look at it. I held it in my hands like the greatest treasure in the world and marveled at it. "Oh yes, you are a true assassin." Said the council member and then he gifted me the knife. I couldn't say thank you enough.

Then when we all sat down, I showed Zhan the knife and he was happy for me. Zhan then told the council members, once everyone was there, how he became aware of me, how we got to know each other and became closer. He told them in detail about the curse and that we could break it. Some things Zhan's father had already told the council. But still they wanted to hear it from Zhan. I only agreed now and then and just continued to listen attentively.

I could tell from the faces of the council members how interested they were in our story. Their looks also told me that they were very welcoming.

When Zhan was finished with his narration, the council members asked me one by one if I really wanted to be a vampire and if I was aware of what was in store for me. I nodded, Zhan had already explained everything to me on the way there and said, "I am aware of the pros and cons. But when I think that I can spend eternity with Zhan, I am more than happy. I really want this and it is my wish."

"Well, I see that you are in a hurry to become a vampire. And I assume no one on the council would be against it. Because your intentions with Zhan are pure and honest. Besides, you are an assassin and thus a true asset to us. Even more so if you are a vampire assassin. That alone makes you an almost unbeatable opponent for others. Together with Zhan, you will be unstoppable. And we have also heard that thanks to you, Zhan can regain his true form when he transforms. I think for Zhan you are the ideal partner. So you have my consent." Said the old man, who is also the highest council member.

The other council members agreed with him and all gave their yes to the mating of Zhan and me. And then the old man came up with an idea we didn't expect. "Since we're all here today for once, I have an idea. Or rather, a suggestion. Since you're in such a hurry to be transformed by Zhan, why don't you do it tonight? As I'm sure you know, all council members must be present for this. And we are all here today."

I looked at Zhan and smiled. "I'm for it." I said. I know how great the dangers are in this. Because Zhan has to drink my blood. If he drinks too much, I will die. Likewise, he might go into a blood frenzy. But I trust Zhan and so I was ready to do it already that night.

"And Zhan? Are you ready for it too?" Asked the old man.

Zhan took my hand, kissed it and said, "Absolutely. But before that, we have to tell you something. It's about the vampire murders. We know you suspect Meng Yao and Su She."

"That's right. But unfortunately, we don't know where they are. And rumor has it that an assassin is also involved." Replied the old man.

I stood up and said, "I know where we can find them. And with your permission, Zhan and I will take care of it."

"The assassin is your brother after all. Could you go against your own brother?" Another council member asked.

"It doesn't matter if he is my brother or not. If he was also involved in the death of the vampires, I will punish him for it."

"Well, that would be wonderful. Once Zhan transforms you, we are very eager to see how you will punish Meng Yao, Su She and your brother." Said the old man.

"Are we allowed to kill Meng Yao and Su She? Or do you want to judge them."

"Mhhh, normally we judge. But in this case, we'll make an exception. You may kill them both. What you want to do with your brother is also up to you."

"Well, I will see to what extent he is involved." I replied.

The council members applauded and liked my initiative. After that, we were taken to a room. There we had to wait until we were taken to a bathroom, where several servants washed us. Then they took us back to the room. I had to put on a white robe with embroidery of gold on the collar. Zhan had on a black robe with gold embroidery.

As soon as we were dressed, they took us to an altar room. Candles lit up the room with a marble altar in the middle. I had to lie down on the altar and someone blew a sweet smoke in my face that immediately relaxed me. 

The council, dressed in noble white robes, gathered in the room. They were chanting a prayer or something, holding red candles in their hands. The old man dressed like a priest said a prayer in the vampire language and asked me where Zhan should bite me. I said that it should be the neck and the old man cleaned the place I had chosen. And besides, what he used to clean it should also relieve pain.

When Zhan approached the altar, I smiled. "I trust you. I love you." I said.

"I love you too." Replied Zhan and then transformed into his true vampire form.

I hadn't even been scared. Just a little nervous. And then when Zhan sank his fangs into my neck, I barely felt it, he was so gentle. When he began to drink my blood, I felt him suck it out of my throat. I heard him swallow it and felt him reach for my hand and hold it. I felt safe and calm.

I don't know how much time passed when I felt myself getting tired. My heartbeat slowed down and I felt like I was losing consciousness. At that moment, Zhan stopped sucking. The old man lifted me a little, then I saw Zhan bite his own wrist. Blood came out of the wound and held his wrist out to me.

For a moment, I thought I couldn't drink his blood. But when I had the blood on my lips and it ran into my mouth, I drank it as naturally. It tasted sweet and I felt it running through my body.

After a few minutes, my heart began to beat very fast. I felt a sensation inside me like I was burning up. Everything began to hurt. But I didn't scream. Instead, I felt Zhan holding my hand very tightly and kissing my face. He gave me the strength to endure this pain.

The council members sang a quiet song that sounded like a mantra. Meanwhile, the priest said a quiet prayer. And at this prayer and the council's chanting, Zhan's care, I calmed down again when I thought the pain would overtake me. My heart ached violently and then it was as if it would explode.

My heart stopped and I realized all this. And after a few minutes, my heart started beating again. Only a few heartbeats per minute. But it was beating again. Suddenly I could see everything clearly in the room lit by candles. With my tongue, I could feel my fangs. And even the claws that were forming I could feel.

I looked at Zhan, who looked at me lovingly and proudly. "You are a handsome vampire and you have my eyes." He said with a smile.

The priest gave me a mirror and first I looked at my neck, I wanted to see the place where Zhan had bitten me, but there was nothing. Then I looked at myself in the mirror and saw the black eyes. I saw my fangs and I also saw my claws. And somehow I was really happy about who I was now.

A council member gave me a cup with blood. When I smelled it, I really felt the hunger. I drank the blood and felt very strong. Then the council members withdrew. The priest had us brought back to the room and said with a grin that this was now our wedding night and we should really let off steam.

At first I wondered how he meant that. But then as Zhan and I lay in bed and we started making love, I knew it. Because as a vampire, sex was completely different. Much more intense and passionate. Above all, more persistent.

This Unforgettable night ended for us only after 10 am. More than five hours Zhan and I celebrated our wedding night. Our wedding night, I can't believe it yet. I am now officially mated to Zhan, I can call him my husband. And, I am an Vampire Assassin!
