3. Unique Creatures: Werewolves
"Papa used to tell me stories of these creatures that walked among the moon. They look like humans during the day but change into a wolf-like creature during the night. At first, they'd have a human-like appearance, but catching one during its transformation is like seeing a ghoul crawl out of the deep depths of Hell, terrifying. Their voices would turn into echoing howls, their jaws enlargened as their mouths were filled with fangs. Their arms would turn into hairy legs, their garments would then become a shaggy coat. This wolf-human creature would have dangerous and high bloodlusts, slaughtering cattle, and people if needed to." The man spoke in the bar, looking upon the sloppily drunk people who showed terror in their eyes except one.
"Yeah, I don't buy it. A man-wolf? Sounds like folk tale just to make sure your kids stay in the house at night." Kintrell laughed softly, leaning against the table. "Who whipped up this tale this time?"
"It's true, boy. The illustrations and sightings are in this book!" The man took out a stuffed book, sliding it towards the young adult.
Kintrell opened the book, looking at the different sorts of monsters. "If I slay a wolfman, how much am I getting for it?"
"I'll give you 200 coins." The man smiles, placing his pouch of gold coins on the table.
"Say no more." Kintrell stood up, taking the book as he put it in his satchel.
"You have to kill it by tonight. There'll be a full moon tonight." He smirked, crossing his arms.
"Say no more." Kintrell laughed and walked out with his brother. Soon as the door closed, he facepalmed hard.
"You have no idea how to kill the creature do you?" John raised an eyebrow at his older brother.
"Let's get Eddie. He might know how to trap a wolfman, or at least kill one." The two started running back to the woods.
At least, they were, until they actually caught up to Eddie who was running into town.
"Bandits tried to kill me and they tried to rob us for our stuff!" Eddie spoke quickly.
"Well, thank the Gods we don't have anything for them to take." Kintrell chuckles, walking back towards town with Eddie following.
"You wouldn't know how to kill a Wolf-man, would you?" John asked, smiling with much optimism.
"A wolfman? Those things actually exist?"
"We're fucked." Kintrell frowned as he continued walking.
"Sorry, I don't. I thought they were just legends you tell your young so they don't go wandering out at night?"
"Well, the legends aren't lying. There actually are wolf-men, and we're gonna kill one!"
"Excuse me?" Eddie pulled the man back, raising an eyebrow. "Who said anything about us killing those things? We have a mission to do, and that's killing The Black Order. We can't stray from the main objective just because you wanna look good!"
"You wanna take out The Black Order? We'll need money, and neither of us has enough for, what is it again? What are those things people have when in war? Oh right, we don't have money for a fucking army!" Kintrell yelled slightly loudly.
Eddie sighed heavily and nodded as he took the book from Kintrell, nodding. "We'll find it at midnight, then. In the meantime, please try not to assign us any more jobs that'll kill us, please."
"Yes, sir." Kintrell scoffed as he and his brother walked, looking around the town.
"You're perfect." A man said, wrapping his arms around a woman, smirking.
"Back off me, Taxius, you're drunk." She chuckled, trying to step away, clearly showing how uncomfortable she was.
"Come on, Marrissa, you know you can't say no to a man. Especially not a man you're going to marry." He started to kiss her neck savagely.
Kintrell whistled and walked over, smiling. "Relax. You kiss like a dog. Next thing you know, you're gonna start to hump her leg like you're a horny pooch."
"Who asked you to get into our business, kid?" The man let go of his woman as he approached Kintrell.
"Back up. You don't wanna test my patience, and I'm actually serious. I'm not the guy you wanna irritate."
The man shrugged and swung his fist towards Kintrell.
He caught the fist as he slammed his shoulder into the man, knocking him to the floor.
When the man tried kicking, Kintrell caught his legs, dropping them as he stepped forward.
It felt like the world was shaking for Kintrell. He crouched, pulling the man close to him as he felt intense rage, black veins appeared on his face as well on his arms. He was aggravated, and he was about to give the man a world of pain.
"What the hell are you?!"
"I don't know, and I don't care. All I know is that if you try to touch any woman while you're drunk, you'll be on the floor, choking on blood. Got it?" Kintrell threatened, his voice deepened, almost demonic like as he shoved him to the floor before standing up.
He noticed what was happening to him and he immediately walked away, mumbling things to himself, shaking his head violently.
During the night time, the three sat in the bar, reviewing the book. There were many possibilities for killing a wolfman. One suggested fire, the second suggested silver, the last one suggested a swift decapitation.
"I'd hate to ask this depressing question, but what happens if we lose to this wolfman?" John asked as he read the book still.
"Then we either die a painful and brutal death with their teeth, tearing out flesh out," Kintrell said sadly.
"Or we turn into wolf-men and no, I didn't see a cure while reading, so it's possibly incurable," Eddie spoke simply.
"This truly is depressing."
"You wanted this job, Kintrell. You're the one who's blamed for this."
"Oh I'm sorry, but did you have a better idea?!"
"Yeah! It wouldn't have-"
The two were interrupted, hearing what sounds like howling in the distance. The three boys looked at each other before they started running straight towards the noises. "Keep up! Keep up!" Kintrell exclaimed.
There were footprints. They were at first human footprints, until they shifted into wolf-like legs, confirming their suspicions they were actually dealing with a werewolf.
There was a creature, a 10-foot long creature, bent over, munching on something. They listened to the bones crack in the wolf's mouth as they watched layers of the flesh get torn off and then chewed.
Eddie ran towards the wolf and slammed his blade into the wolf's shoulder, making it howl in pain before it ripped the blade out and looked back at the man, growling and foaming at the mouth.
"I'm sorry," Eddie spoke lightly, trying to step away or at least step back.
The wolf barked as he swatted him, tossing him straight into the trees.
Soon as Eddie's back hit the branches, he felt all the pain of the fall and branches breaking under him.
John took out a bow, shooting arrows at him. To no avail, the arrows didn't work.
Kintrell took his sword out and swung at the wolf, hoping to strike him.
The wolf took the sword and tossed it into a tree as it grabbed Kintrell, throwing him into a fence post. He roared in anger as the beast got into his front and back legs, charging at the two.
Kintrell and Eddie rolled away, before quickly running towards it, applying their weight onto the beast, just barely pinning it to the floor as it tried to fight the two off.
John picked up the silver sword and hurried over to the two, about to strike the creature's heart.
"Wait!" The wolf spoke, giving up his attempt. "I've done nothing to you people. I've been eating nothing but cattle and deer for the past couple of years. Don't kill me!"
Kintrell and Eddie looked at each other, their feelings were unsure of what to do.
"You can't be serious. Are we really about to give this guy a chance to try and redeem himself?"
"Yes, we are." Eddie stood up and lightly pulled Kintrell off of him. "He lives, he might actually decide to leave these people alone."
"Leave these people alone?" The wolf got back onto its four legs, snarling. "Those people hunted me, and I didn't even do any harm to them. I lived by their side and I only hunted animals that they didn't show concern of."
"Then why do they want wolf-men dead?"
"It's pronounced werewolves, and they want us dead because of the fact that we're different than men. They can die by anything, we only die by silver or decapitation."
"Okay, so why are you staying in a village full of people who want you dead?"
"I'm hunting for my sister. We were separated when we were younger, and I wanna go find her."
"Her name?" Kintrell stepped closer, raising an eyebrow.
"I don't trust you with the name. No offense, but I don't know anything about you three, nor your names."
"Kintrell, this is my little brother John."
"Eddie."
"Bigby." He states, walking deep into the woods
The three boys followed him, continuing to conversate with him.
That was until they heard footsteps from behind the four.
"Friends of yours?" The wolf's nose twitched as he turned around, seeing men hold arrows and silver swords.
"If they were, wouldn't they have joined us on the journey to kill you, Bigby?" Kintrell asked as him and Eddie stepped forward, holding their blades.
A woman stepped forward and held her opened palm out to the four, freezing them as they were sent into submission. They fell on the their hands and knees, being forced to lay down.
"Take their things, Ramero, and be a dear by killing the pooch. He's smelling up the place." She spoke lightly, kissing her cheek.
The group closed around them, taking items from their pockets and armor, especially their swords.
"What's an eleven royalty boy doing all the way in the woods?"
"That's none of your business, unless you actually wanna fight for it?" Eddie states, attempting to stand.
"You're on." The man smirked and held his new blades, waiting.
Eddie felt the magic come off of him as he prepared his stance and raised his fists.
Soon as the man tried to swing the blade, Eddie grabbed the blade, pulling it from his grip into his hand. He then tried swinging, until the witch froze his body, sending him through intense pain.
The man smirked as he watched Eddie get sent to his knees. He then slammed his boot into his face, knocking him onto the floor unconscious.
Ramero approached Bigby and held his sword high up as he swung it into his neck, decapitating him. "200 coins for me!" He exclaimed, laughing.
Kintrell felt rage, intense and burning rage. His veins didn't turn black, nor did the bottom of his eyes, but his eyes turned pitch black as he rose from the ground. His footsteps were heavy, they changed from his light and almost silent footsteps. He wanted to be heard.
The witch took notice and tried subduing him. Kintrell continues walking, and that horrified the woman.
Ramero turned and swung the blade into Kintrell's stomach.
He pulled it out like it was nothing as he made Ramero stare into his pitch black eyes. "Can you feel your heart burning? The fears you have is nothing compared to what I can do to you.." He spoke in a deep demonic voice as he raised his hands and pushed down, forcing everyone to drop to the floor, struggling to stand.
"Wh-what the hell are you?!" The witch looked at the man in black armor.
"I'm simply better than you in magic, because you should've killed me instead, but then again..."
"You can't kill me in a way that matters."
