Part 4 of 5

*******

"For the last time I am asking you decently. Where is the money right now?" Her iron steel voice could be reachable from the other side of the glass wall.

Everyone was watching her action against the criminal who was sitting in front of her, on a chair, facing her directly. Her sudden outburst startled him a bit. The poker face that he was putting before eyes of the world trumbling now. Every eye from the interrogation room was witnessing her thoroughly including him. It was not first time for him to see her fury for the criminals she caught. However, it never failed to amaze him how she had changed from her past life. He was happy to see her strength and sad at the same time for losing her innocence. He missed her older self who always used to smile a lot to her loved ones.

"I will come back again." Getting up from the chair she left the room with a hustle.

The cameras were tuned off already. Before her leaving the room she was followed by her teammates along with him. They came to their cabin discussing the further process for letting him spill the truth from his mouth.

"The ransom will be near his apartment. But where can we find it?" Her teammates were planning among each other while he was observing her.

It had been 2 months since they met. Even still now she didn't warm up to him for a bit. She was indifferent and cold. Her mind was filled with work only. She was neither interested nor wanted to be interested. She only initiated conversation when it was needed to. Rather than that he was an insignificant being with whom she didn't want to talk with.

What an irony!

He smuged while seeing the facial expressions and hearing their thoughts. Park Mi-so was really competent when it came to catching criminals. She had no heart for them. For her if someone had done any crime that person should be punished, no other word. Even he was having some short of compassion for humans recently. Nevertheless, she was indifferent and nonchalant towards it.

Spending time with her made him realise some things about her present life. She despised emotional encounters. She always took cases related to brutal crimes. She was aloof apart from work. In her past life she told him to observe her for understanding her actions. Recalling those advices he was observing her body language thoroughly since day one. It was helping him quite well. Even though she wasn't giving any extra attention to him, he was still happy to get her by his side, alive and breathing. He wasn't lonely anymore neither his days were boring, including the works he had to do as 'Doom'. It reminded him of her past life when he used to visit her office frequently to annoy her.

Though one qustion always got his nerves whenever he was with her in a crime scene.

Why did she chose this dangerous career path out of anything safer?

*************

"I am taking this case for the next." She said while collecting the evidence from the file section.

Her supervisor nodded her head before letting her know about the other files she needed in near future.

She was holding the file in one hand while her right hand was busy typing the details she needed to. At that moment her eyes caught the sight of the man with weird hair colour. He was staring at her with a grin on his face.

Her new team leader, Mr. Kim.

Sometimes she felt as if he were reading her mind. As whenever she cursed the authority including him under her breath he grinned giving at her a 'knowing look'. Her face never showed any emotion. However, his weird behaviour never got unnoticed by her. She still couldn't find the reason of his presence on that day when they first met in that underground parking lot.

What the hell was he doing there?

She never interacted with him out of interest, neither she had any willingness. If she had given any choice to ignore him completely, she would do it happily. His presence annoyed her. For some reason she couldn't even avoid him fully. His presence always stucked on the back of her mind subconsciously. On the top of that, he followed her everywhere. After his arrival she was being assigned with him in every case. It wasn't bothering her initially as he was really skilled in detecting the offenders. However, it all started after awhile when they were assigned together in a case of abduction and murder. He tried to let her out from that case several times, but couldn't. It irked her. That was the starting of the saga of her irritation towards him. Even though she had her other team members by her side, she couldn't let his thoughts go from her busy mind.

Putting her attention from him to the computer screen she was studying the case that she had taken. This time it was a case of serial killing. A person was killing men of any age in the Seoul city. The only common thing between the victims was that they were all offenders of molestation and sexual assault. At first the killer was killing his/her victim with sharp weapons. After killing he/she chopped off their reproductive organs from the bodies. On the computer screen she was observing the photos of the victims. The pattern was same everytime and the timing was either dawn or night. The police and detective department were looking for the killer for 3 months now. She was trying to find something significant to carry out the case further.

She felt two burning hole into her head from the behind while doing her work. She could tell the source without turning her face towards it. She swallowed her irritation and looked back to the file.

Sighing deeply she began to work on her assignment while ignoring the desperate trials of the man who was working hard to get a glimpse of her face.

°°°°°°°°°°°

"Are you sure that it is going to work?" Her teammate and closest friend Do Ae-ri asked while preparing her gun.

"I hope so." Hyun-woo said while tracking the phone location of the 'bait' they had set.

He was an offender of 'workplace molestation' and also a parolee for 1 week. Since his first day after the parole, he was getting threat from an unknown person via his cell phone and postcards, same pattern as the other victims.

Mi-so looked at the police van after coming out from the backseat. Other two were still working on the technical part in the van. Her gun was already loaded and her face was filled with determination. Even though she had to catch the murderer, she was kind of pleased with whatever he/she had done for three months. The killer was killing the offenders only.

So, what's the big deal?

A subtle smile formed on her face while reasoning her own sinister thought. Checking her gun for the last time she paid an attention towards her surroundings. Her eyes fell on their team leader who was standing a few mitres away from her, looking at their van carefully. She turned her face from him and began to walk at the side of the parking lot. The 'leverage' was on the other side of the road, being monitored by them immaculately. With him two other officers were also there for keeping an eye. This case was on high profile; the department was working hard for it.

Checking her phone for awhile, she kept her attention on him. He was looking at her direction with a thoughtful face. Her black outfits was also matching with her. Not giving more thought on him, she was heading towards the 'victim'. He was standing in the dark to lure the criminal.

BAM. BAM.

Before her eyes she witnessed getting gunshot of the victim out of the blue. Their trap didn't work; all the officers got alarmed. She saw a shadowy figure running on the alley next to the crime scene. Without wasting any moment she began to chase him preparing her gun. The victim was surrounded by her colleagues now. Ambulance would be coming soon enough.

The man was running and she was chasing him from a bit away from him. She couldn't keep the track in the dark. At the same time she couldn't lose him. Running vigorously she was crossing dark alleys one after another. At a point she stopped; a wall was showing dead-end in front of her.

Where did he run?

Her breath was panting; sweat was forming on her temples. She bent her back forward to control her heavy breathing. Rays of lights were coming from the nearby streetlights. However, it was still quite dark around the area. Her eyes were looking for her target while focusing in the darkness. Holding gun she was searching with slow steps, pointing it along.

"TAK DONG-KYOUG!" Someone pulled her towards him out of nowhere.

BAM. BAM.

Sound of gunshot came next to them. She couldn't respond to it immediately. Her body froze on spot. Another body was guarding her from the situation. She lifted her face and saw him looking at her with worrying eyes. His blueish green-grey hair was visible to her eye sight undoubtedly. Gradually voices of her other colleagues were coming into her ears. However, the gunshot didn't shake her; an unexpected action by him did.

How did he know this name?

*********

'How did he know this name?'

Sitting beside the Deity he was thinking about her inner voice that day. Since then she was avoiding him more. They didn't catch the killer that day too. Nevertheless to say, they knew the gender of the killer now. Though he knew it before they could. However, he couldn't interfere in their business directly. It was against the rule of the nature.

He offered to drive her home. But she refused it immediately leaving them behind with a shaky yet suspicious expression on her face. He couldn't see her mind at that moment before she left. Although it left him puzzled for a few days by now.

What does that suppose to mean?

"How is everything going? Does she talk to you now?" Her plain feminine voice reached into his ears breaking his stance.

"No. She is still cold to me. I am trying to pursue her. But she doesn't let me in." With a sigh he said looking at the paintings that were on the wall before their eyes.

She smiled. Her long hair was hanging on her shoulder; her long red dress was moving along with her every body movement.

"Two months are not enough for her to open up to you." She said looking at him smilingly.

"She is more reserved than I have expected. She used to smile a lot in her past life. But I never saw her smiling for past two months now. Why? I can't even hear her thoughts to know it. All she thinks is about work, case and criminal investigation. As if she had no life apart from it." Sighing deeply he let out his thought to the Deity.

"Humans are complicated, so their lives. To understand her mind you need to know her life, why she is behaving like this." She replied while looking at the paintings.

They were sitting in a silence. He was thinking about every incident he had witnessed along with her. The Deity wasn't wrong. There were things that he didn't know about her yet. Her tough behaviour could be an armour to protect herself like he did in her past life before having compassion, loving her and losing her as well.

"Are you going to give up now?" With her knowing smile, she looked at him.

She knew his answer already though she wanted to hear out from his own mouth.

"Never! I have waited for her for years. I will wait for her till the end of the world!" He declared with determination in his voice.

She grinned eye to eye visualising their near fate.

°°°°°°°°°°°

Her head was on the table; eyes were closed. Illuminated light from the reading lamp was falling on her fair face. Her neck-length hair was placed on her cheekbones, patiently waiting to be brushed off. She was sleeping peacefully on ber desk. A file was still on her right hand, motionlessly beside the computer. Her black formal outfit was blending with the darkness of the room smoothly.

Today wasn't her night shift. She was still working hard for that case. Her other colleagues were shoring out other case related issues. She was here to study it thoroughly.

He came near her, holding the blanket within his both hands. Her face was showing discomfort from the cold. Winter this year in South Korea was going strong.

After putting the blanket on her, covering her body, he sat next to her on a chair staring directly at her beautiful face. He kept his face on the desk with the support of his right hand as a pillow, same as she did with her opposite one; leveling himself to her face.

She was having dreamless, deep sleep. He wasn't capable of such things. He could only watch her over silently, patiently, not blinking his eyes for a single moment. As if she were about to disappear from his sight again. He grinned eye to eye remembering Deity's words.

'How did he know this name?'

That was the first time he caught her off guard in front of him. A wall that she had built around her, got sudden hit for a moment.

His eyes were still on her begging for opening up to him. He didn't want to lose her again neither wanted to force her. He wanted to be with her, for her, for the longest time possible.

I will wait for the day you can open your heart to me.
I will wait for the moment you can welcome me within it.
I will wait for the time you will let yourself to be with me.

I'm right here, beside you, whenever you need me to hold your hands...
