Chapter 22.

Shehroz.

"She is recovering but still I suggest you to stay here for a few weeks. I don't think it is a good idea to take her out." Doctor told me after she read Aminah recent reports. I sigh and think how I am going to convince her about it. 

"Can't you give her any medicines if she feel pain. I will get her check in nearest hospital, we reach there." She looks at the reports before sighing in defeat.

"Okay. You can take her away, but I am giving you a name of the best doctor of the city and I will give him a call then you can go." I smiled and nodded. She writes me the name of that doctor on a piece of paper with his number and I thank her before giving my goodbye and leave from her office with Aminah reports.

I knock and wait for Aminah to open the door. After a minute, I heard slow footsteps coming toward the door before she opens it. I look at her and saw her standing with the help her crutches. She looked at me and raise her eyebrow in confusion. 

"Pack your bags, we are going." I told her and turned down to walk away. 

"Where?" I heard her asking me. I turned to face her and grinned.

"On a road trip." I answer her question and before she could ask me, I walk away and went in my room to pack my bags. I am not going to tell her where we are going. I wanted to see her face when I take her there. 

It is almost two weeks now since her parents leave and I could clearly see how much she miss them. She was really sad when Usama says he couldn't come here on weekends because of his work. I hate to see her sad like that. I smile slightly when I think what I do and how happy she looks.

"Don't worry, they will be here soon." I tried to comfort Aminah but she continues to cry because she wants her family.

Usama called on my phone because he couldn't reach Aminah. He told us that they couldn't come this weekend when I want him here in my apartment because I can't see the one I feel for crying and I couldn't do anything for her. I didn't blame him. He just started his own grocery store in the city and he had to keep his eyes on his works for a few months before he trust them to leave store for them.

"Take some rest. I will make lunch for you." I told her and went out after she nodded. I went in the kitchen and make something quick for her. 

After half an hour, lunch was almost done, but it will take some more time. I went in my room to take a quick shower and change into something comfortable. I walk out of my room with my phone and laptop. I sent her a text and get a reply in a few seconds to wait for a few minutes. I put my laptop on the couch and set the computer in the middle of the living room on the table that was in the corner of the room. I connect my laptop to the computer and went to call her.

"Lunch is ready." I knock on the Aminah door after a minute. I wait for her to open the door and smiled at her. 

"Lunch is in the living room. Go there and I will bring water." I told her and walk in the kitchen to grab a water bottle and two glasses before walking after her. I saw as she freeze and heard her gasping at what she saw. 

I smile nervously and went to the couch where our lunch is. She slowly walks forward and sit on the couch looking at her parents on the screen. I handed her plate and a glass of water before picking up my plate. I look at her parents and give them a smile. 

"I will be in my room. If you need anything call me." I told Aminah and turned to the wall away but her Dad stop me. 

"You don't have to leave. We will be happy if you sit there and join us." He says with a smile. I nodded slowly sitting on the couchand put distance between us.

Aminah was talking to them as we eat lunch. Her parents were happy to see her even it was on screen. Her Dad playfully scolds her for crying while her Mom was ready to cry as she look at Aminah. Hira was standingbehind her in-laws with her husband and children. 
I looked at Aminah and smile softly as she went back and forth with her brother playful fight. I look away to the screen and saw Hira looking at me sadly. I shake my head with a smile in silently telling her that I am okay.

When I packed my bags, I went in the front door with my bags and I saw Aminah trying to drag her bags behind her. I quickly walk over and take her bags in my hands. She looked at me and leave them for me to drag her bags and put them beside mine. I walk back in my room and grabbed my phone, charger and keys. 

"Ready?" I asked her once I started the car after putting bags in the trunk. I looked at her as she nodded with a slight smile. 

"Do you want to eat before we leave the city?" I asked her as we pass our restaurants. She shrugged and I decide to grab some food.

"You want something specific?" I asked once we stop in front of the drive thru for fast food.
 
"A regular burger with fries and a sprite." I repeat the order before giving my order as well. I drive around the corner and wait for our turn. When they give us what we want, I paid them and drive back on the road. I was taking a bite of my burger as Aminah connects her phone to my car and start playing soft music. I didn't mind so I just let it slide aside and continue on my meal while driving out of the city.

"We should stop and stay a night at a hotel or some staying place. I feel like you couldn't drive any longer." Aminah suggests as she handed me a water bottle that we pick from our last stop at a gas station. 

I sigh and splash some water on my face and think. She is right. We should stay a night at some hotel or else we might crash into a truck or a car. I nodded and drink some water before giving it back to her. I search on my phone for a place to live nearby. I get two motel names and decide to stay there for a night.

We drive to the motel which was nearest to us right now. When we reach there, I told Aminah to stay in the car and lock the door as it was night time and we were on the highway. I get inside to book two rooms, but they had rooms full so now we had to visit the other motel which is 20 minutes away. I thank the receptionist and went back to the car and told Aminah about it and drive toward the second motel. I just hope we get rooms in this one or else I had to drive all night.

When we reach there, we get out of the car. I didn't want Aminah to stay in the car because this place is dark and few drunk guys were walking away from motel. We went inside and straight toward the receptionist. Her smile was fake as she rolled her eyes when we enter in here. 

"We want two rooms for a night stay." Aminah told her before I could say something. I saw something flash in Aminah eyes when the receptionist smirk at me. 

"We have only room available right now. I am sorry you have to find another place to stay." The receptionist say directly to Aminah. I looked at her and saw her giving the receptionist a glare that actually make me feel like I should hide.

"We can manage in one room." She again interrupts me. I was going to cancel her offer and deciding to drive all night. 

"Sorry?" The receptionist whose I name to learn was Caroline from the tag on her uniform. I looked at Aminah in surprised, but she was busy glaring at Caroline.

"Excuse us." I bring Aminah away from her and turned to face her. "Do you know what you just said?"

"I know what I said and honestly, I didn't have the energy to stay in the car all night and I couldn't risk my life because of this stupid conversation. I am really tired. Please it is just one night. I will sleep on the floor and you can take bed." She says and rolled her eyes toward the Caroline who was still staring at us. I sigh in defeat. 

We went back to the reception and get the book after paying for it. We take the keys before taking our carry on bags upstairs. Our room was on the second floor and thankfully it was a better room than other motels I experienced. We set our bags by the bed and take turns to get fresh and ready for bed. I am still not sure if Aminah was comfortable sleeping on the floor. 

"You can go now." I looked up and saw Aminah coming out. I nodded and grab my things from my bag and went to the bathroom but stop.

"Aminah, you can sleep in bed, I will be fine down on the floor." I told her and saw as she look between floor and bed. She sighs and sit in bed. I smile and went to get ready to sleep. 

I walk back in the room and saw the lightswere dim. I went toward the small closet the in room and saw a blanket in there. I take it out and make my bed on the floor and pick up the pillow from the other side of the bed and lay down. I stare at the ceiling for a few minutes and close my eyes to sleep. I toss and turn on the floor for almost an hour and a half, but still I can't sleep. I look at the bed and saw her sleeping peacefully. 

She looks so innocent when she was sleeping, completely opposite of what she looks during the day. She looks dangerous, but to me she looks like she needs someone to make her forget her pain and to erase whatever happened in her past. I am not sure If I am going to do that when we reach there because I know once we get to our destination, they will send me back. 

I know it is going to be difficult to leave her alone, but I have to do if that is what she wants.
