26. Death is inevitable

I turned to face Ahaan on hearing his demand for me to be dead. Honestly I was expecting something of this sort to happen. And after failing to fulfill my dead father's promise this was the best thing I suppose that was going to happen. I looked around at everyone's shocked faces. Humair was furiously waiting for my one signal to slay Samar but I had to choose between the only two things I have been struggling these past days. Duty or Love.
"For me, Love is Duty. I would be happy to serve your last command. Pierce my heart and let the fire in my blood flow, until the last of my ashes die crying out your name." I said smiling
"Are you crazy?" Humair yelled.
"I think it will be for the best. She has taken away all that I have, kill her Ahaan." Samar cried. Ahaan wiped her tears with his own hands and gave her a heartwarming smile. He seemed happy in his own little world and I knew even if I were to die here, he would not feel a pinch of pain in his eyes, let alone his heart.
"But at least give her a chance to explain." Humair asked Ahaan.
"You're too concerned for her, what's going on Humair?" Ahaan asked.
"I'm not blind Ahaan. I know who is my Ahana, I know how she looks, I know how she sounds and I even know how her soul feels. You can close your eyes and shut your ears but I can't ask my heart to beat any slow when she is around me. She has given me a reason to live and you think I'm going to let her go just like that? You think I'm going to let the only person I love die right in front of my eyes? Are you insane?" Humair yelled at Ahaan.
"I don't know about Ahaan, but you claimed to love me Humair. You have always been the only person I could lean on to, you have always been the only person I cared about and this is what I get? I might be with Ahaan today but even you know your place for me in my heart. I have always seen you as someone who would always stay by me and here you're fighting for a stranger?" Samar yelled back. Her rant to Humair was not fake. She actually meant each and every word she said and I could see that on her face as her tears stopped and her face turned into guilt.
"Oh yes, I know who you are very well. And don't worry, you're right. I can never forget you. You destroyed my only dream, my Ahana and here you stand crying in front of me to let her die? Samar you didn't even care for your own father, how do you think am I ever going to trust you with your words?" He questioned her words.
"Stop calling her Samar! She is Ahana for God's sake Humair. Where are your senses?" Ahaan questioned shaking him.
"And who is she then?" Humair yelled pushing him back.
"Ahaan enough! Open your eyes, how can you not identify your Ahana? We have been fighting for her all our lives! Even when Sufiya was alive, Ahana still mattered to you. You were more scared to lose Ahana then you're to Sufiya. You even had several fights with her over Ahana! Don't you remember? You might have a picture of Sufiya all over your rooms and cabins but your wallet still has Ahana's picture, who are you lying to?" Humair added shaking Ahaan. My heart sank on hearing Humair's words. Ahaan had my photograph in his wallet? He fought with Sufiya because of me? I mattered to him more than she did? Is this really true? Am I really losing something that can be the most precious part of my life?
"You have a picture of me in your wallet?" Samar said faking a smile. Great, now it's her picture.
"Not yours, Ahana's!" Humair yelled.
"Humi, what's wrong with you. Why can't you see, I'm Ahana!" She yelled.
"Yeah, and I'm Samar, Queen Samar who loves to do what ever she wants in her little la la land!" Humair snapped.
"What the...? I'm Ahana, not any Samar and definitely not the one who has a la la land! Open your eyes or at least your heart!" Samar yelled at him pulling him close to her by his collar. Her eyes were fixed to his. He slowly held her by her arms and pushed her away.
"If you're Ahana then prove it to me." Humair smirked.
"How exactly?" She asked.
"Answer my questions, the one who gets then right is the real Ahana." Humair said smiling at me.
"Go ahead." Samar said holding Ahaan's arm.
Ahaan looked at me curiously for a response, well everyone did. I shrugged my shoulders and nodded.
"Tell me, what was the name of my pet dog?" Humair asked. I was heartbroken on realizing I actually didn't know the answer.
Samar kept on staring at my face puzzled. I was staring at Humair's face, cursing him internally as well.
"Isaac?" I answered. Humair's face turned into a frown and he slowly turned towards Samar.
"You never had a dog." She replied. Humair looked at her face completely shocked.
"What? You're scared of even puppies, let alone a dog." She added pouting.
Ahaan's gaze intensified as he began to get more furious.
"Next question." She asked.
I was quite all this time, I knew it was a bad idea since the beginning.
"Where does my family belong to?" Humair asked smirking. He came to me first and I confidently replied, "Kashmir." His face turned into a frown again. He kept on staring at my face until he heard Samar speak, "Bihar."
He turned towards her and saw her smirking.
"What's my favorite color?" He asked.
"Black." I replied. He didn't even cared to turn towards me.
"Olive green, crimson and grey." Samar answered.
"Do I like pepperoni more or chilli flakes?" He asked.
"Neither. You're a sweet tooth. You don't like chilli flakes and you're allergic to pepperoni." She replied. He stepped closer to her face and asked a final question that I had no clue ever existed.
"Did I ever propose to Ahana?" He asked.
"A thousand times in your dreams, but never on my face." She replied.
"You're not Samar." He said as a tear drop escaped his eyes.
"Now you believe me. And stop trying to save her, you cannot. I can't lose you to her twice. Guards, hold him back." She commanded. Her face made clear she had motives with Humair but Humair's face made clear there was more to this story.
"Now how long are you going to wait for?" She asked Ahaan giving him his dagger. She kept on sobbing as she asked him for my last breaths.
Her fake tears looked so real in Ahaan's eyes, he hardly gave his decision a second thought and began walking towards me.
"Any last wishes?" Ahaan asked.
"Never hate yourself for what you did to me." I smiled.
"I only have Ahana left with me now, I hate every person that tries to hurt her." He said as he attacked me with his dagger. I shut my eyelids down instantly and uttered a slow cry. The whole world had darkened in front of my eyes and all my dreams were now blooded. I never knew my life was going to end by the hands of the only person I was ready to die for, but I guess, it was the best way to go.
