Whispers Of Distrust

Zayra said to Arish, "She is Aria, a new student at our school. Maybe she wanted notes from Zain. That might be why she's at Zain's house."

Arish smirked and leaned closer. "Zayra, you're so naive. Why don't you call Zain and ask where he is? Let's see if he even answers, or maybe he's too… busy with her."

Zayra hesitated but dialed Zain’s number. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust him—she did—but she wanted to prove Arish wrong. When the call went straight to voicemail, her heart clenched.

Arish’s eyes gleamed. "Ah, voicemail? That’s strange, isn’t it? Maybe he turned his phone off on purpose. You know… to make sure no one interrupts them. Who knows what they’re doing inside? Maybe… they kissed?"

"Shut up, Arish!" Zayra snapped, glaring at him. "Stop it! You don’t know anything, so don’t make disgusting assumptions!"

Arish continued, his voice dripping with smugness. "I warned you, didn’t I? Zain isn’t the person you think he is. He’ll break your heart… and when he does, don’t say I didn’t warn you."

Zayra said in an angry tone, "Shut up, Arish! I don't want to hear your nonsense. Don't make any assumptions about Zain before you know anything." Then she left angrily.

Just as Zayra left, Zain and Aria came out of the house.

Zain said to Arish, "Arish, you are still here? I thought you had left already. Anyway, did someone come while I was inside?"

Arish said, "No, Zain, nobody came." Then he left.

At home, Arish was very happy because he had finally caused a misunderstanding between Zain and Zayra. He said to himself, "Arish, oh Arish, no one can come between me and Zayra—not even Zain. Zayra is mine, and she will always be. I will destroy anyone who comes between us."

At Zain's house, Zain said to Aria, "Aria, you got your notes; you may leave now."

Aria replied, "Thank you, Zain." Then she left.

Zain was about to sit in his car when he realized that he had left his phone. He went inside to get it and noticed that it was off. He put it on charge, switched it on, and saw 15 missed calls from Zayra. He was scared to see so many calls from her. He quickly got in his car and called her.

In Zayra's car, Zayra couldn’t stop herself from crying. She had seen Zain and Aria together, and although she trusted Zain, Arish had managed to manipulate her into thinking something was really going on between Zain and Aria.

When Zain called, Zayra quickly wiped her tears and composed herself before answering.

"Zayra," Zain said, "are you fine? My phone was off; that's why I couldn't answer your calls. I was scared when I saw that you called me 15 times. I thought something had happened to you."

Zayra said, "Zain, I'm fine."

Zain said, "Thank God, Zayra. I was so worried. If something happened to you…" Zain’s voice trailed off, filled with genuine concern.

Zayra said, "Zain, I'm fine. Don't be dramatic. The reason I called you so many times was to tell you that I won’t be able to come to watch the movie because Eva has a problem, and she needs me to be with her."

Zayra lied to him as she was experiencing mixed emotions due to what had happened.

Zain said, "No problem, Zayra. We can go next time. But first, tell me the truth—are you really okay? I feel like something is wrong. Your voice sounds like you were crying. Zayra, I am always here for you. You know that, right?"

Zayra said, "I am not crying. I actually have a sore throat. I need to get going now. We'll talk later. Bye, Zain."

Zain, I want to believe you. I really do. But why does it feel like everything is falling apart?
