Chapter Thirteen
*Addi's POV*
"Ah, there's the star performer of the night! Addi, mio cara, we've been waiting for you!" The one with the long raven hair, Aro, as I remembered their names from Carlisle, was the first to speak, charismatically yet it held an undertone of authority that made it clear he was not one to be underestimated, as he stepped forward, with his smile wide and welcoming. The other two, Marcus with his long dark brown hair and Caius with his shoulder length blonde hair, walked alongside him. "Your performance was remarkable." Caius commented, with a smirk and an intriguing expression. "It takes great talent to draw such emotion from an audience." Marcus said, calmly yet sounding so wise.
My mind was racing as I took a half-step back, trying to process what was going on in front of me. "Um...thank you." I managed to say, with my voice mixed of awe and uncertainty. It was surreal to be standing in front of the very vampires I had seen depicted in the artwork from Carlisle's office, especially they were considered the most powerful coven in the vampire world as explained. "There's no reason to feel shy, darling." Caius remarked. Strangely, I felt my cheeks heat up after he referred to me as 'darling'.
Then, Aro stepped forward a little closer to me, with an elegance that was both charming and commanding, and he held out his hand for me to take. At first, I hesitated, but I didn't want to be rude. I put my hand in his and he, gently, held it while placing his other hand on top. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Aro, my dear. It is a true pleasure to finally meet you in person after hearing such wonderful things about you." He said, with his voice smooth and melodic, as he stroked the top of my hand with his thumb. He, then, brought my hand to his lips, placing a soft kiss on top of it. My cheeks blushed even deeper at the gesture and a soft chuckle slipped from my lips as I observed him, with a mix of flattery and bemusement swirling inside me. "Thank you, Aro. It's nice to meet you too." I responded, experiencing an unusual blend of formality and warmth.
Afterwards, Aro released my hand as Marcus stepped forward, with his demeanor calm and gentle. He mirrored Aro's gesture as he held out his hand, in which I didn't hesitate to take this time, and he held it, delicately. "It truly is an honor to finally meet you, Addi. I am Marcus." He introduced himself, as his presence was more subdued, yet it carried a weight that made me feel at ease. Then, he placed a soft kiss on top of my hand as well. "Thank you, Marcus. Pleased to meet you too." I said, with my heart racing a little faster and my cheeks heating up even more at the unexpected treatment that I was receiving.
Finally, Caius approached me, with his presence commanding yet enigmatic. He, gently, took my hand in his and introduced himself, "And I am Caius. Words cannot convey on how significant this moment is. Being here and seeing you in person, dear Addi, means the world to me." His tone was slightly more reserved as he spoke. He, then, placed a lingering kiss on top of my hand, holding it for a moment longer than the others. I felt a strange shiver run down my spine as he pressed my hand against his cheek, as if he was savoring the warmth of my human skin.
My breath was caught for a moment as my heart was racing at the intimate gesture. I chuckled softly as I was thinking that I was receiving some sort of vampire royal treatment, being welcomed into a world far beyond my own. "Wow, I didn't expect such a warm welcome." I said, trying to lighten the mood as I glanced at my siblings, who watched with a mix of caution and concern, which confused me. The Kings exchanged glances as their expressions were a blend of approval and curiosity, clearly enjoying my reaction. The atmosphere was charged with an unusual energy, and I felt as though I had stepped into a scene from a fairy tale—one that was both enchanting and slightly overwhelming.
After the introductions with the Kings, Aro beckoned me to step forward, which I did, and he placed his hand on the small part of my back as he gestured me to the other four vampires standing nearby, each exuding an aura of strength and confidence. "Allow me to introduce you to our esteemed Guard, mio cara." He introduced me to the group.
I approached the Guard with a friendly smile, stepping forward to greet them. "It's nice to meet all of you." I said, kindly, instinctively reaching out my hand, anticipating a polite response. However, to my surprise, none of the Guard members reached out to take my hand. They simply regarded me with curious expressions as I could noice their eyes flickering with interest, but also with caution. Feeling a bit awkward, I slowly withdrew my hand, feeling a mix of confusion and discomfort.
Seeing this, Aro's expression shifted slightly and he addressed the Guard with a gentle reproach. "There's no need to be like that, dear ones. Addi is simply being polite." He said, soothingly, as he encouraged them to engage.
With that, the petite blonde girl stepped forward first, with her demeanor shifting from distant to welcoming as she finally reached out to take my hand. "I'm Jane. It's a pleasure to meet you." She said, softly yet firmly, while she shook my hand. Following her, a boy with short dark brown hair approached and echoed Jane's greeting. "I'm Alec, Jane's twin brother. Welcome to our world, Addi." He said, offering a slight nod, his demeanor calm and composed.
The third individual, sporting spiky blonde hair that resembled a dishwater hue, stepped forward with a warm and welcoming smile as he took my hand. "I'm Demetri. It's a pleasure to meet you." He said, grasping my hand in a firm yet gentle shake, as if to offer reassurance. Lastly, the tall figure with dark brown hair, towering over the other three, approached me with a relaxed grin. As he took my hand into his, I was slightly worried that he might break it because of his strong-looking body structure and vampire strength. "And I'm Felix." He said, giving my hand a friendly squeeze as he shook it, without so much of breaking it as I was initially concerned about.
I felt a wave of relief wash over me as they each introduced themselves politely as the initial awkwardness was fading away. Despite their earlier hesitance, it was clear that the Guard was as intrigued by me as the Kings were. With each handshake, I felt more at ease. "It's wonderful to meet all of you. Thank you for coming to see me perform. I really appreciate it." I thanked the entire Volturi coven. "It was our delight to witness your brilliance on stage, dear Addi. I trust you like the roses Marcus, Caius, and I had sent your way." Aro replied. "Oh, I was wondering who sent them to me since there was no name on them. But I appreciate the roses. They're my favorite flower." I responded.
As I took a seat on one of the plush couches, I couldn't shake the feeling of awe and confusion swirling within me. My mind raced with questions about the unexpected visit as the presence of Aro, Marcus, and Caius was both exhilarating and daunting. "So, you all came all the way from Italy just to see me perform?" I asked, in excitement yet with disbelief, as my curiosity was getting the better of me while I glanced at the powerful coven. Aro smiled, but there was a subtle shift in his expression. "Well, yes, that was part of it, but we also have some important matters to discuss." He responded, as his tone was cryptic and enigmatic, leaving me confused. "Important matters? What do you mean?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows.
The atmosphere in the room shifted as everyone took their places in the living room. The Kings settled onto a separate couch that was across from me, while Carlisle and Esme stood close by where I was sitting. My siblings stood in a protective stance in different spots, while the Guard stood nearby to keep a watchful eye on everyone present in the room.
Aro leaned slightly forward as his crimson eyes were fixed on me. "You see, Addi, my brothers and I have been eagerly anticipating the moment we could finally meet you in person." He said, smoothly and inviting, yet his words were carrying a weight that made my heart race. Feeling a knot of confusion in my stomach, I turned to Carlisle. "Did you tell them about me living with your family?" I asked, unsure of what this could all mean. Carlisle nodded gently, with his expression reassuring. "Yes, I have, Addi. They've been aware of you living with us and the circumstances surrounding your departure from your father." He replied, calmingly as he sensed her apprehension.
Aro's gaze shifted between Addi and Carlisle, as if weighing the next words carefully. "Yes, we are aware of your circumstances and that you are living with the Cullens. However, it is essential for you to understand, Addi, that we are not here to intrude or pose any threat. Instead, we believed it would be beneficial to meet you in person following a...recent event and to discuss something important since your presence holds great significance for you and to us." Aro elaborated, gesturing towards himself, Marcus, and Caius at the conclusion of his statement. "What do you mean when you said that my presence holds great significance?" I asked, with my voice steady despite the fluttering feeling in my chest.
"Addi, my dear, are you familiar with the concept of a vampire possessing a special gift?" Aro asked, his tone both curious and inviting, as he leaned back slightly while I noticed that he was studying me with keen interest. I nodded in response as my thoughts were racing back to the unique abilities some of the Cullen family members possessed. "Yes, I know about that. Alice has the ability to see the future and Edward can read minds." I replied. "Yes, exactly. These gifts are rare and unique to each vampire. However, there is one important gift that Marcus possesses which is directly related to what we are about to discuss with you." Aro said, a glimmer of excitement in his crimson eyes.
At that moment, Marcus, who had been observing quietly, interjected with a thoughtful expression. "You see, Addi, I have the ability to sense bonds that connect beings, both human and vampire alike. A couple of months ago, I had sensed something remarkable taking shape—a bond forming between the three of us...and you, Addi." He said, contemplatively, as his words were measured while he looked directly at me, conveying the sincerity of his observation.
Aro leaned forward, intrigued by the implications of Marcus's revelation. The atmosphere had shifted slightly, filled with a palpable tension as everyone absorbed the weight of Marcus's insight. I felt my heart skip a beat as confusion and curiosity were swirling within me. "A bond?" I questioned, searching the faces of the Kings for clarification. Caius, with his gaze sharp and focused, took a moment before speaking, ensuring he conveyed both seriousness and clarity. "What Marcus is trying to say, Addi," He began to say, with his voice firm yet gentle. "You have become an integral part of our lives. Essentially, you are our mate."
