Chapter One
*Addi's POV*
I had woken up after falling asleep sometime ago and saw the bus pulling into Forks, Washington. I looked out the window, taking in the lush greenery and the cool, damp air that seemed to wrap around me like a comforting blanket as it reminded me so much of the Oregon weather that I find it so refreshing and relaxing. The town was small and quaint, a stark contrast to the chaos I had left behind. For the first time in a long while, I felt a flicker of hope that this town was my new safe haven.
"Folks, we'll be pulling in for a pit stop. We'll be back on the road in thirty minutes." The bus driver announced over the intercom, as he pulled into a parking lot near a small market. Once it had came to a complete stop, the remaining passengers grabbed some of their belongings and stepped off the bus. I was the last one onboard as I gathered up all my stuff and got off the bus, taking a deep breath of the moist air surrounding me before I headed inside the market with my belongings. I wandered around the market for a short time until I made my way up to a Grab-N-Go shelf to grab a bottle of water, a banana, and a chocolate muffin.
"This isn't what I ordered. I wanted a nonfat latte." I heard a woman complaining from a cafe. I headed over there, not just to curiously see what was happening, but to also get a latte as the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee had captured my attention. "Ma'am, I guarantee you that it is nonfat." The teenage barista girl with light brown hair named 'Samantha' on her name tag told her. "Yeah. I made it myself." The other teenage girl with dark brown hair and white glasses named 'Nancy' on her name tag stepped in. "And I guarantee that I can taste the fat in this latte. This is the worst cafe I've ever been to." The woman responded and stormed out. In her haste, she didn't notice the twenty dollar bill slip from her pocket and flutter to the floor.
Without hesitation, I stepped forward and picked it up. Instead of keeping it for myself, I decided to do something else with it. "Here's some karma for that customer." I said, as I placed the bill inside the tip jar.
Both girls exchanged surprised looks before they burst into laughter. "Thank you so much! That's really kind of you!" Samantha said, her eyes bright with appreciation. Nancy nodded in agreement and said, "Seriously, thank you! It's so refreshing to see someone stand up for kindness in a place like this." I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through me. "It's just a little thing. Everyone has their bad days; it's nice to remind them that kindness still exists." "Absolutely." Nancy replied, with a bright smile.
"What can we get for you?" Samantha asked. "I'll take a grande hazelnut latte with oat-milk." I placed my order. "I'll get that ready for you." Nancy said, as she was preparing my order. "Is there anything else that you have to purchase?" Samantha asked. I placed the water bottle, banana, and the chocolate muffin on the counter to show her what else I had.
"Um, how much do I owe you?" I asked, as I was preparing to get my wallet out of my backpack. "Oh, don't worry about it. It's on the house for your generosity!" Samantha answered. "We appreciate the kindness around here." Nancy added. I felt a rush of gratitude. I've only been in this little town for not even a half hour and I was already being greeted by a couple of teenage girls. "Really? Thank you so much! That's incredibly generous of you both." I responded.
Once my latte was ready, Nancy handed it to me, while I was savoring the rich aroma of the hazelnut flavor, before I gathered all my stuff, thanked them again, and left. I went back outside and found a bench that was outside the market. I set my duffel bag and suitcase on the side of the bench, while I kept my backpack close to my side. As I was settling down, I took a moment to enjoy my latte, feeling the warmth of the cup seep into my hands. The sound of laughter and chatter from the market behind me and those who were walking by had created a comforting atmosphere as I gazed out at the small town.
Forks felt right, but the uncertainty began to gnaw at me. Even if I had found my new safe haven, how was I gonna find a place to stay? I hardly know the town and I didn't know how I was gonna find a place to live, especially when I barely have enough money and I have no job. I also wanted to finish up my education, but even if Forks had a high school, I still couldn't enroll in it because I'm not with my father and I couldn't afford to tell anyone that I'm a runaway.
As I took a sip of my latte, my mind, suddenly, drifted to my father. Questions were beginning to run through one by one. What would he do when he realizes that I was gone? Would he come looking for me? The thought of his anger and disappointment made my stomach churn knowing what his reactions and behavior would turn out.

Meanwhile, Derek woke up with a pounding headache, the remnants of a hangover from the previous night's binge evident in the scattered bottles around him. As soon as his eyes were completely open, he glanced at the sunshine from the window for a moment until he glanced down at his watch, which was little after ten in the morning. He growled in anger and threw the bottle he had in his hand at the wall, causing it to shatter into pieces all over the floor. "Addi!" He bellowed, voice hoarse and dripping with annoyance, as he rose up from the couch and marched to Addi's bedroom. "Why didn't you wake me up for work?" He yelled.
Once he reached her bedroom, he pounded the door with his fist several times until he opened the door and noticed that she wasn't there. "That little brat had the audacity to leave for school and not wake me up and be late for work." He muttered to himself, and slammed the door shut. He, then, walked over to the dining room table, grabbed his badge and handgun, and headed to the front door. "I'll deal with her when she gets home from school." He grumbled to himself, as he fixed up the shirt he slept in, placed his badge and handgun on his belt, and headed out the door. His mind was still clouded with confusion, unaware that it was spring break and his daughter wasn't even in the state of Oregon anymore.

I took a little piece of the chocolate muffin and ate it before I took a deep breath afterwards, trying to shake off the lingering worry. Even the cold air was somewhat helping me feel better. "It was in my pocket! I know it was there!" I turned to the direction of where the bus was parked as I heard the same woman continuing to complain, only it was about the twenty dollar bill she unfortunately lost. "Oh, put a cork in it, Meredith! You probably lost it back in Portland! Just move on!" A man, who I assumed it was her husband, argued with her, as they boarded onto the bus. I smiled in satisfaction afterwards.
A couple minutes later, the bus started its engine and drove out of the parking lot and back on the road to wherever it heading somewhere in Washington. For a brief moment, I felt a little panicked since I was completely alone now and I had no other transportation to go anywhere. But I quickly dismissed it. I was more happy that I was now in a different place and away from all the negativity that I had lived with for so long. But I still had to figure out where I was going to stay and make it my new home.
"Hey!" I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard a female voice speak out of nowhere. I turned and noticed a group of five figures approaching. They looked like teenagers, but something about them felt otherworldly—their pale skin glowed softly in the morning overcast light and their eyes were a golden color.
I instinctively felt a jolt of nerves and straightened up, but the short brunette girl in the front stepped forward with a friendly smile. "Don't be scared. We're not going to hurt you. We just wanted to check if you're alright." She said, kindly. I relaxed slightly, intrigued by the girl's warm demeanor. "Um, I'm okay," I responded, glancing at the others who stood behind her. There was a tall guy with tousled hair and piercing eyes, another with a broad build and an easy smile, a serious-looking guy with a calm presence, and a stunning blonde girl who radiated confidence.
"I just arrived in Forks not too long ago, but...I'm not sure where I'm staying." I explained. The brunette girl tilted her head, with her expression softening. "You don't have a place yet?" She questioned. I shook my head, feeling a hint of vulnerability, before I replied back, "I'm still figuring things out." The girl's smile widened. "Well, we can help with that. My name's Alice, and this is Jasper, Emmett, Edward, and Rosalie." She introduced herself and gestured to the others based on their characteristics. "We'd like to offer you a place to stay at our home. It's a big house, and we have plenty of room." She offered.
I blinked in surprise, with my heart racing. "You'd do that for me? I don't even know you." I said. "We know it can be tough moving to a new place," Jasper said, with his voice sounding calm and reassuring. "We just want to help." He added. Emmett nodded enthusiastically and said, "Yeah! Plus, it'll be fun! A little adventure, right?" Rosalie crossed her arms and her expression seemed thoughtful. "Just be aware that we're a bit... different. But we promise we're friendly." She spoke.
I looked at each of them, sensing their sincerity. The warmth radiating from Alice was hard to resist. "Really? That's incredibly generous of you. I don't want to impose..." I began to say , but Alice shook her head. "Not at all! We insist. You'll fit right in, and it'll make settling in a lot easier." She told me.
I took a deep breath as I was weighing on my options. I felt a flicker of skepticism as I looked at the group. They were undeniably intriguing, but something about their ethereal appearance made me wary. "I don't know." I spoke, slowly, glancing down at my latte. "I don't want to be a burden to you. You barely know me." I finished saying. Alice stepped closer, with her expression being earnest. "We get it. It's a big step, but you don't have to worry about that. We genuinely want to help." She said.
Edward nodded in agreement. "You won't be a burden at all." He said, his voice smooth and reassuring. "We have enough space, and having someone new around might even be nice for us." He added. I looked up at him, searching for any hint of insincerity, but all she saw was kindness. "Are you sure? I really don't want to impose on your family." "Absolutely." Edward replied, with his gaze being steady. "We're a family that looks out for each other, and we want to include you in that, at least until you get settled." He stated.
As I kept thinking about it, the reality of my situation set in. I had nowhere to go, and the idea of staying with them, despite my initial skepticism, was becoming more appealing. The warmth of their offer was hard to ignore, and the thought of being alone in an unfamiliar place was daunting. Finally, I took a deep breath and nodded. "Okay, I'll stay with you." I responded. Alice's face lit up with excitement. "Great! You won't regret it. We'll have so much fun together!" She said. "Let's get you settled, then." Jasper said, with a reassuring smile.
I felt a mix of relief and apprehension as I stood up from the bench, while Emmett and Jasper helped me with my stuff. Maybe this was the fresh start I had been searching for. With a new sense of hope, I followed Alice and the others, ready to see where this unexpected turn would take me.
*Third Person's POV*
Meanwhile, Carlisle and Esme sat in their car a short distance away in the parking lot, watching the scene unfold. Carlisle was on the phone, his brow slightly furrowed with concern as he spoke to Aro. Esme watched through the window, her heart would be swelling with compassion as she observed Addi's tentative smile. The girl looked so young, so lost, yet there was a spark of resilience in her eyes.
Just then, without the human girl noticing, Edward turned his head back towards the car, with his expression serious. He caught Carlisle's gaze and nodded, signaling that everything was unfolding as planned. "Everything is all set, Aro. She'll be staying with us." Carlisle said, with his voice calm yet serious.
"Excellent, Carlisle. I knew my brothers and I would count on you. Make sure you keep an eye on her." Aro replied, his tone laced with authority yet with also a hint of excitement. "Of course, Aro." Carlisle replied, with his voice steady. "We will protect her. She's under our care now." He said, glancing at Esme, who nodded in agreement and her eyes reflecting the love and warmth she felt for the human girl, as well as a fierce protective instinct.
"Good." Aro said, his tone softening slightly, though still holding a hint of caution. "Keep in touch with me and my brothers about her progress. We need to ensure she feels safe and comfortable. Remember, she is our mate, and her well-being is paramount." He informed. Carlisle nodded, even though Aro couldn't see him. "You have my word. I'll keep you updated." "Thank you, Carlisle. I trust you to handle this with care. We'll want to meet her soon, once she's settled in a bit more." Aro said. Carlisle sighed lightly, knowing Aro's eagerness was born from a genuine desire to protect. "I understand. I'll make sure we'll arrange it when the time is right." He responded.
After ending the call, Carlisle turned to Esme, who still had her eyes on Addi. "It seems our family is growing again." She said, softly. "Yes." Carlisle replied, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "Let's give her some space for now. She'll need time to adjust to everything." He suggested, with Esme nodding in agreement, as she watched the sight of Addi laughing with Alice and the others. "I just hope she feels safe with us. That's all we can do for her right now." "Exactly." Carlisle said, while starting the car. "Let's head home and prepare for her arrival. It's important she knows she's welcome." He stated, before he drove off.
