30. Apology

~Third Person's POV

Quiet as a corpse, peaceful as the river flowing nearby and cold as a snowy mountain, this night was nothing but just a mystery still unknown to the admirers of nature. Filled with uncountable twinkling stars, the horizon shimmered like a newly wed bride while the crescent, which had already witnessed the pain burning like a flame inside two hearts multiple times before, silently played hide and seek with a thick blanket of fluffy clouds, desperate to know what had destiny decided for these two souls.

The souls which were sitting quietly near the waterfall, both secretly wishing for this silence to never end, as to both knew that words won't be able to do justice with their haphazard feelings tonight.

The breeze was chilled and tranquil for the one who had just met his beloved. While the same breeze was warm, uncomfortable and disturbing for the one who ran away from the dreadful memories given by the person sitting by her side, half a decade ago, only to meet him never again unaware of the fact that destiny always plans the opposite.

For him, it was the night full of magic and ecstasy!

For her, it was the night full of pain, for all the wounds she had buried long ago, were exhumed once again.

To break this soul shaking silence, one of them had to speak. Beneath the horizon full of stars, they quietly sat side by side as if planning a script which could be followed, but failed to speak anything as words seemed to be caged up in their mouths like a beautiful golden sparrow which had been kept as a captive since years of agony and helplessness.

She continued to play with her aqua blue colored ring and rub her wrist simultaneously, just like she used to do when she would be super nervous, while his deadly gaze never averted from those delicate fingers and milky white wrist. The same wrist which he had held tightly in order to maintain balance when they had bumped into each other on the day of bridal shower.

A polite smile danced across his lips as he reminisced the most beautiful day of his life. She was just a few inches away from him just like she was right now!
The distance of miles had been covered and had been converted into that of few inches .

He smiled happily at his success which was worth his efforts.

As she continued to rub her wrist with nervousness and fear, her creamy skin started to become pink and then slowly it turned into vibrant shades of crimson making me feel extremely upset.

"Stop it!"

I grabbed her wrist, politely stopping her from hurting herself, thus being the first one to break this deadly silence. And that's when she slowly raised her eyelashes which were drowned with nervousness before, and finally locked her gaze with mine which was overflowing with love for her.

Being easily hesitated, she gently pulled her wrist away and finally broke that eye contact which seemed to be inevitable.

"Please say something!"

I whispered with a broken heart.

She remained silent and continued to stare at the starry sky, the same sky which had been the witness of each and every insult and humiliation.

"Hooriyah!"

A cracked voice escaped my lips as I counted the tears of helplessness falling from her angelic eyes which she averted towards me once again.

"Say something!"

I barely whispered, thus repeating my words again.

Her face slowly went pale as if all of the remaining energy had been drained out of her.

"I have been dying to hear your voice!"

A lonely tear trickled down my face.

After a never-ending silence, she finally decided to speak up something, thus giving me strength.

"Why did you come here?"

Her voice was as soft as feather, but as cold as ice.

"To rectify my mistakes!" Was my only answer.

A layer of hope started to build inside me as she wiped her tears and looked back at me. But it couldn't last long, thus shattering my soul into myriad of pieces.

"Go back Shahveer!"

Her eyes were full of a wild storm as she stared at me with an expression which I least wanted to call as hatred.

"It's Veer, not Shahveer, Remember?"

I smiled while trying to calm her down.

"Don't ruin the peace which I had been collecting since five years!"

Her voice quivered with pain, due to which my smile immediately vanished.

"And what about my peace, which was also ruined five years ago and continued to deteriorate for the next five years?"

I stared at her with my complaining gaze.

She looked at me with amazement as if she had been informed about the strangest fact of all times.

"O really? Well I thought you would be enjoying your life with all those notes of dollars and pounds? Isn't that so?"

There was something in her eyes which I had never seen before.

Hatred!

A very strong feeling which had the audacity to destroy souls. And that's what was happening to mine.

I remained silent as I was speechless. That dreadful night started to appear infront of my eyes.

The way I waved a pound note infront of her teary eyes and asked if she had ever seen this before in her life.

"I came here to apologize!" I finally blurted out.

She burst into a sweet laughter as if ridiculing my already disheveled state. She laughed as hard as she could but the tears still continued to flow from her eyes. She was feeling miserable, and I was making her feel that way.

"It took you five years to realise your mistake Shahveer? Five years?"

She looked at me sarcastically, which was enough to tear my flesh apart.

"No! I had realised my mistake just a few months after you left me. What took me five years was your search. I searched you day and night, through every city, every province, your house your relatives everywhere. And it turned out that you were hiding here all along!"

I smiled while trying to hide my pain, but she remained silent.

"You were mad at me, but what made you pour that anger upon your own family? Who leaves their house like this?"

I asked with a sorrowful voice.

"My house?" She laughed again.

"My family?"

"Each and everyone has shown their true colours at the appropriate time."
She smiled weakly

"Tum to shuru se he ghair they, pr bakiyon ne toh apna ho k b dil dukhaya!"

She wept like an innocent child making my heart scream with pain.

"I wasn't a 'ghair' , Hooriyah!"

I looked at her with pain.

She kept quiet as she tried to study my face which reflected the pain and helplessness of years.

"You always were, and always will be!"

She announced her final words, which acted like a dagger which was perfectly aimed at my heart, and finally stood up to leave. I immediately held her arm tightly and stopped her from leaving.

"Please forgive me, my marshmallow!"

A stream of tears cascaded down my cheeks as I pleaded like an innocent kid, knowing that her heart would definitely melt when she would hear me call her marshmallow, just like I used to when we were little.

She slowly turned and looked at my tears with astonishment as if she had never expected from a stone hearted man like me to cry like this infront of her.

"You remembered?"

For a few seconds, she was lost in my eyes.

"I did, all these years!"

I smiled as she continued to stare at me with disbelief, but suddenly that stare broke into anger and hatred as she harshly pulled her arm away as if something had just appeared infront of her eyes.

Perhaps the same dreadful memories!

She took a few steps back while her cheeks, nose and eyes became red with anger.

"Please forgive me!"

I begged again as she continued to step back further.

"Stay away from me! Go back and leave me alone! Let me live in peace!"

She shouted fiercely.

"But what about my peace? My heart? It's bleeding since half a decade!"

I yelled back with anger as I cried like a stubborn child.

"TO HELL GOES YOUR HEART AND YOUR PEACE SHAHVEER! I DON'T GIVE A DAMN "

She shouted at me for one last time and left immediately, thus reminding me of the day when she came to our house.

"WHY THE FREAKING HELL HAVE YOU HIRED THESE BAST*RDS DAD? I WANT MY F*CKING CHARGER RIGHT NOW!"

He wasn't stopping any soon.

He was breathing heavily as his face first turned yellow, then orange and then finally red. He was going to explode any second.

"Behave yourself Shahveer! There is someone sitting between us! "

Mrs. Shehroze glared at him with immense anger.

"TO HELL GOES YOUR FREAKING GUEST MOM!"

And within a flash of a second, the memory faded away, just like her delicate figure which started to disappear in the darkness of night.

I fell down on the floor and continued to cry harder and harder. The woman who used to forgive my misbehaviour again and again, wasn't simply ready to forgive me now. All of my hopes started to scatter as I cried mercilessly not ready to accept the fact that she had just left me here alone to cry, scream and die with pain.

She had stopped caring.

She had stopped giving a damn.

She had stopped believing in me.

All thanks to that one miserable night , which was welcomed by me with excitement and happiness, unbeknownst to me that the same night would turn out to be the biggest trauma of my life!
