whatever it is together we will
...Kabir...
As soon as we reached home I looked at Preet who was sleeping since she was under the effects of the sedatives. I placed the tresses of her hair that escaper her loose braid behind her ear and bent ahead kissing her forehead which shocked me since she flinched a bit. Teary eyed I looked back to Aryan and he just placed his hand on my shoulder as a gesture of support and whispered.
"She'll be fine."
"I hope so too." I replied before exiting the car and walking to her side, picking her up bridal style and walking in our house. Our helper looked equally sad watching her fragile condition.
I moved upstairs to our room, it was left with the little decoration from the day we were here last. Placing her on the bed I covered her with the duvet caressing her hair when I heard her murmur something. I itched closer to her to hear her.
"I am sorry Kabir!" Was what she kept on repeating even in her half unconscious state.
"I love you jaan." I whispered with a tear down my cheek. Taking a deep breath I stepped out of the room to our waiting family.
Descending down I found everyone sitting in the living area, once sensing my presence my mum stood up opening her arms and as a lost kid finally finding his destination I ran to her arms sobbing for whatever happened for what I knew would happen. Later all of us settled down in the living area silently as none of us knew what to talk about, the kids were in one of the guest rooms with Kashish and Arjun. Tara was continuously sobbing silently as Preet's mother trying to handle her since Aryan himself wasn't in a condition to understand anything.
I was sitting on the floor with my head placed on maa's lap when suddenly we heard noises coming from my room. Alarmed I shot up from my place running towards our room skipping every alternate step. As soon as I reacher the room I found it totally destructed. The decorations were thrown across the candle stands on the floor with the mirror broken. Her dressing was pulled out because of which her hand was bleeding again.
"Preet!" I shouted loudly running towards her and instantly pulled her in a hug but as expected she did not respond.
"Preet yeh sab kya hai jaan!" I asked still embracing her but instead of replying she just stood still. Taking a deep breath I picked her up again and placed her back on the bed. Abhi brought the first aid box and this time I took it. Sensing the fragility of the moment everyone went downstairs. I picked her hand with great care and started talking to her, expecting her to respond but all I welcomed was a defeating silence. Cleaning her wound I traced the slit with my fingers and unknowingly a tear escaped my eye. For a change Preet responded to it. She immediately looked up at me and wiped the tear away. "Sorry!" She whispered.
"Preet, jaan no. I should.." Before I could complete the sentence we were disturbed by a knock and then Aryaman walked in with handling a plate of food with difficulty. After what seems like ages Preet let a small smile looking at the poor kid struggle.
"Buddy, help." He said from the entrance. Sealing the bandage finally I rusher to hold the plate. As soon as the plate was in my hands Aryaman fled towards Preet.
"Buiiii..." He called jumping on the bed and instantly hugging her. He spread his hand at the widest and said.
"I missed you soooo much." Preet gave him a smile and made him sit on her lap as he kept blabbering. Grabbing the opportunity, I picked a morsel of food and forwarded it towards her and she declined.
"Please!" I begged and she shook her head negatively.
"Fine, mai bhi nahi khaunga aur nahi koi aur." I stated placing the spoon back on the plate when she held my hand and opened her mouth. She had a bit of it after which I forced her to take her the medicines.
And such has been our last two months with Preet being her usual unresponsive self. All her friends from London and Mine from Mumbai are here. The only person she has a conversation is Aryaman which only lasts a minute or max two. She hasn't stepped out of our room neither is she involved in anything. And I have completely no idea about what am I supposed to do. Sighing I opened the door to my house after a tiring day setting up the surprise birthday party for Maa , had Preet been fine this would have been the simplest thing. I have no idea how did she manage the two weddings so easily. Now if you would think we were really inconsiderate to celebrate when Preet wasn't in a good condition then for the information, it was Preet who wanted this. Though she wasn't a part much but the sole idea belonged to her. And leaving no stone unturned to make her respond all of us got back to work. Entering the house the first thing I did was rush upstairs to make sure she is fine. There she was sleeping cuddled in a ball like structure with one of my shirt tightly clutched in her hands. I moved towards her and caressed her hair. My hands itching to take her in my embrace but the last two months have been tough after all the Tarun fiasco she flinches to every touch. I bent a little pecking her cheek and whispered. "Just come back to me shortcake." I got off the bed and changed stepping down as the helper informed that Aryan and Abhi were here. I walked to the living area taking a seat.
"You're way too strong man." Abhi commented. I just gave him a smile and replied.
"I am just being normal."
"This ain't normal Kabir. It's been two months with her condition getting worse day by day and you still never gave up." Aryan complimented.
"You can't just give up on someone because the situation's not ideal. Relationships aren't strong because they have no problems they are strong because both the people care enough about the other to find a way to make it work." I replied shrugging.
We would have continued talking if we wouldn't have heard noises coming from our room. Leaving everything I ran upstairs only to find Preet curled in a ball sobbing loudly. This was the first time since the incident that she cried. I was confused whether to be happy that she somehow reacted or try and stop her from crying.
Keeping the thoughts aside I rushed up next to her. I tried pulling her towards me but she pushed me aside.
"Leave me Kabir. Chod do mujhe. (leave me) You don't deserve this. Everyone's better off without me. I am just messing up with everyone's life." She cried.
"Preet Preet Listen to me." I tried but she shouted again.
"I deserve nothing. Mai apko kabhi koi Khushi nahi de paungi. (I won't ever give you any happiness.) I know you can't love me anymore."
"Preet Malhotra just shut up." I shouted louder. This did hurt if there was anything I ever loved then it was her.
"Mai apki Preet nahi rahi Kabir. (I am not your Preet anymore.) I have been, he touched me all over Kabir. I ain't pure." She sobbed again but this time she couldn't complete her sentence as I slapped her right then. It was none of her fault and the sooner she understood the better.
And if I thought this would stop her then I was dead wrong.
She began with her rant again.
" Just leave me. Every thought is a battle, every breath is a war and I don't think I am winning anymore. I am giving up Kabir and I don't want you to give up with me. You will get someone better than me. Aap aap kissi aur se shaadi kar Lena. (You can marry someone else.) Leave me Kabir I am not worthy of you. You deserve better." She was wailing loudly now.
"Shut up, just shut up Preet Malhotra. Ek shabd aur nahi." (Not a word more.) I shouted before leaving the room and descending downstairs. Aryan followed me while Abhi was up with Preet.
Hadn't I know how difficult was it for Preet to say this. Unlike most others for a change I knew how much my wife loved me. How much our relationship mattered to her. And I knew that she died a million times just to say it all.
