strengthen ties
A few days later, during a potionsclass, Malfoy started smalltalk. "So ...",he began. "You're on the Quidditch team?"
"Yes, what do you care?" I answered as bluntly as possible, even though I had been in complete ecstasy that weekend that I had made the selection. The Quidditch team consisted almost of my friends. The twins, Ron, Harry and Ginny were on the team.
"We both know I love Quidditch, don't we?" I had looked at our kettle and now looked up at his face. "What do you want?" I spat and his eyebrows raised.
"Wow, calm down, I'm just trying to make the most of it."
He emphasized those last words with some sarcasm, but I realized he looked almost disappointed. The rest of the lesson went by slowly and in silence. At the end of class, I quickly apologized and expected a sarcastic response, but got a smile that meant my apologies were accepted.
When we got into the main hall afterwards, Ron started to moan: "Crabbe really is such a stupid fool, he destroys everything!"
"Goyle is no better!" Harry replied. Then they decided to hold a secret contest: Who is more stupid Crabbe or Goyle?
I watched Hermione as soon as the game got boring and the boys started repeating themselves. She looked at me pitifully and said: “I have to admit it's not fun working with Park, but…” She raised her voice so that Harry and Ron would also listen: “At least we don't have to work with Malfoy! ” Now the three of them were looking at me.
"Well he's pretty calm actually, I expected him to be worse ..."
Ron looked at me as if I had just turned into a ghost and both Harry and Hermione looked at me in disbelief.
"What? It's the truth, he hasn't acted like he usually does! ” I said quickly, a little panicked.
"Yeah, that's pretty hard to believe, isn't it?" Ron snorted. Harry reinforced Ron's words with his own expression, but Hermione had a strange look on her face that I couldn't read.
I shrugged and replied: "I prefer not to ask too many questions, much easier." Harry and Ron were apparently satisfied with this answer, but Hermione kept staring at me strangely.
The next day I hung out with the twins and Leo. I was happy with that one day a week when I could completely avoid the others. I didn't feel like a class with Malfoy, because I noticed things got out of hand. Also, Hermione's judgmental face was the last thing I wanted to deal with.
Of course I forgot all my worries and had a fantastic day .. We fooled teachers and Slytherins all day long. Life couldn't be better. In the evening we also hung out together in the common room. It was busy and loud and the boys decided to go to their sleeping quarters.
I looked around to see the others, but I couldn't find them. Fred took my hand and drew me across the room to the stairs.
"You didn't think we'd leave you behind, did you?" he asked me once we were on the stairs.
I looked at him and then looked at George and Leo, who both had the same look as Fred. I laughed uncomfortably: "Of course not!"
I followed them upstairs. In their bedroom we brainstormed for new ideas for their candy to get in the infirmary and out of classes. I felt so accepted and loved, the day was just perfect.
The day after, however, I started with Defense Against the Dark Arts, so I couldn't get away from my wories any longer. To avoid Hermione a little longer, I had breakfast with Fred, George and Leo and went to class on my own.
When they entered the class, the three of them came to me.
"So you're still here!"
I mumbled an answer and it proved to be enough, at least for now.
After that, I felt terrible, the guilt gnawed at me. Despite the twins' many attempts, there was no genuine smile that day. I loved those two, they were fantastic, but they couldn't help me with this. I decided to have dinner with Harry, Ron and Hermione in the evening.
They told me about Hagrid, who in their stories seemed like an unlikely softie rather than a half-giant. On the way to the common room, Harry shrugged.
"Hagrid is the only semi-giant I know. Maybe they are all sneaky wimps. ”
Ron then made a strange face, he clearly disagreed.
"Our genes don't always determine who we are", I replied. From the silence that followed, I could tell that Hermione had told the two boys why my mother wasn't in England and I felt a little twinge, as if she had betrayed me.
"Well" I sighed. "Then I'll see you tomorrow!"
"Joanne ...", Hermione began, but I shook my head.
"It's okay, Hermione."
With those words I walked to our bedroom and crawled into my bed.
In the morning I walked in to meet them after my first lesson and followed them to the dungeons. No one said anything about the day before, so we all pretended nothing had happened. I couldn't help it, but I was even a little happy that I was going to be in Malfoy's neighborhood soon. The Slytherins were late and I was already sitting at the table when Malfoy came in. "Hey", he said.
"Hi", I replied and I was happy with this proof that it was not my imagination that said Draco was not that bad. I looked back at Hermione, who looked back with that strange look of hers.
"Stupid McGonagall", Malfoy continued as if nothing was wrong. "She kept us in class longer!" And he looked up to get a response.
"She probably had her reasons", I replied. His gaze caught my face as if he could read everything on it, so I turned it away. Snape gave us a new assignment and looked around the classroom with his familiar scary look. I liked him, he had something special and I admired that a bit. I semmed to have a thing for the scary Slytherins.
A few minutes later we were working on our magic potion and I reached for one of the ingredients while continuing to read in my book. Malfoy turned out to be doing just the same.
Our hands touched and we quickly pulled them back, but that also made me knocke over our kettle. The kettle fell to the floor with a loud noise and everyone looked up. Snape's gaze slid from the kettle to my startled face.
"Ten points deduction for Gryffindor," he said calmly. “And you can come to my office tonight at eight o'clock, Dhanes”
“Professor, she couldn't help it…” said Malfoy suddenly. I didn't believe my ears and looked at him, but he looked at Snape.
“Very well then, then you can accompany her tonight, Draco. The lesson is over, tidy up and go to your next class! ” I looked at the blond boy next to me, still in disbelief .
"Thank you", I whispered. He looked at me and smiled.
"No problem." He seemed startled by his own reaction and looked away.
That night Ron, Harry, Hermione, Fred, George and Leo wished me luck and I left for the dungeons. Malfoy was already inside when I arrived.
"It's a mess in The back!" Snape said as I entered, no more, no less. By that he meant a large ingredient walk-in closet. So I spent my evening in a closet and was strangely happy that Snape stayed in the classroom. However, he did not prevent us from swearing at each other.
“I've already been here, Malfoy. Stay on your own side! ”
"If you did a good job, I would see that you had already been there, Dhanes!"
Three hours later Snape couldn't take it anymore, he sighed when he asked us not to bewitch each other on the way upstairs.
So Malfoy and I left his office and walked towards the stairs together. We didn't say a word, Until, suddenly, he brutally pushed me against the wall, he held my shoulders tightly and hissed:
"You better make sure that I don't get punished thanks to you anymore!" I had put my hands to his chest to push him away from me, but he towered over me and I could feel his strong muscles through his robe.
My grip losend, physically I could not win this.
"Then pick your moments to prove your humanity a little better!" I bit back. He grinned viciously and pressed his lips against mine for a moment.
Before I realized what was happening, he pulled back and let go of my shoulders. I looked at him in astonishment and saw that he was again shocked himself. He growled: "Not a word to anyone!" before he walked into the hall.
