The Underlying Emotions (A/O/B)
Dean Winchester is a senior in KU (University of Kansas), working on getting a degree in mechanics. Sam, his brother, is in freshman year. Castiel Novak is new in town, going into his sophomore year of college after transferring over the winter break. He had transferred because he wanted to be closer to his brother, Gabriel. What's closer than sharing an apartment? Nothing. What's the twist? Castiel and Gabriel are Omegas. Dean and Sam are Alphas. The Novak's have spent their whole lives - ever since they presented - keeping their second gender from everybody they knew. The only people who know about it, are their family. The Winchester's are the 'hunks' of the school, eye candy for anybody nearby. What happens when Castiel starts to get new emotions - ones that aren't his?
*A/N: Italics will be Dean's emotions.*

*Castiel's POV*
I start to lug in my bags from the car, taking a couple at a time. I manage to get all of it inside by myself, except for one last trip of bags. As I get to Gabe's apartment door, a bag starts to slip out of my grasp. Luckily, someone catches it before it hits the ground. That would've hurt if it hit my feet. I sigh in relief.
"Thanks," I tell them. I turn to them and notice it's a male Alpha. I bite my lip, raking my eyes across his body. After a little while, he clears his throat. I snap out of it, shuffling awkwardly. He just has a smirk across his face. When I unlock the door, I grab the bag and head inside. "Thanks for the help!"
I don't bother listening for a response. Gabriel naps on the couch as I put down my bags. Once I finish, I walk over to him and move his feet off the couch. He grunts, stirring and waking up.
"Oh, hey, Cassie," he says gruffly. "Didn't think you'd be here yet."
"Clearly," I chuckle. "You gonna help me unpack or are you just going to sleep?"
"Do I have a choice?" He asks.
"No," I smirk.
Gabriel huffs, sitting up. He rubs his eyes to get the sleep out of them. "Fine, I'll help. You owe me, though. You start college tomorrow, right?"
"Yes, why?" I ask.
"You owe me lunch then, on campus," he demands.
"Fine," I sigh.
•••
I lay awake in the middle of the night, unable to fall asleep. It's 5:46AM and I haven't slept at all.
Angry.
What the hell? I'm not angry, I'm annoyed. Am I just angry without knowing it?
Guilty.
What's going on? I have nothing to be guilty for. Am I going insane?
Relieved.
This is getting to be annoying. I'm having mood swings like crazy. Why can't I just fall asleep?
Tired.
I sigh in relief. Finally. After shuffling about for a little while, I find a comfy position. As I'm drifting off to sleep, my alarm goes off.
Angrily, I get out of bed and shut it off. When I finish getting ready, I leave the apartment. First day of classes will be fun. Not.
On the way to college, I sing along to LA Devotee by P!ATD, Two Of Us by Louis Tomlinson, Amnesia by 5 Seconds of Summer, Lost In Japan by Shawn Mendes, and others. It helped to speed up time, even if it is 7AM.
Arriving on campus, I park my car. After exiting, I see the guy from before standing by the fountain in the courtyard. Someone looking similar to him is chatting with him. Probably a brother.
Happy. Content.
All of a sudden, the two boys get crowded by at least 15 different girls. I glance around, trying to find the correct building.
Annoyed.
I sigh in confusion before walking over to the crowd. I'd rather ask someone than look like a fool for walking around aimlessly. Going around the crowd, I approach him from behind.
"Hey," I say softly.
Relieved.
The two boys look over to me. The one from yesterday smiles at me. "Hey," he says.
"Sorry if I was a bit rude yesterday," I tell him. "Name's Castiel."
"Well, Cass, I'm Dean. Winchester," he says, smirking again. "This is my little brother, Sammy."
"It's Sam," he sighs. "Sammy is chubby 9-year old."
Amused.
I chuckle softly, while the girls start laughing and muttering things under their breaths. "Do you know where to find Mr. Roman's room?" I ask.
"First day?" Sam asks.
"Yeah," I sigh.
"I'll walk you there," Dean says. The crowd of girls gasp. I roll my eyes in annoyance.
Disgust.
"Thanks," I reply. We say goodbye to Sam, not even glancing at the girls. After walking away, he sighs.
Relieved.
What is going on? This is not me!
Confused.
Okay, it might be.
Disbelief. Amused.
"Cass!" Dean says, breaking me out of my thoughts. I look over to him, seeing a small grin on his face. He looks as if he's holding in a laugh. "You okay there?"
Worry.
"Yeah, sorry. I was just spaced out," I lie. I'm not okay. I feel like I'm going crazy.
Relieved.
"Okay, good," Dean says. "Wouldn't want to let anything happen to you on my watch, now would we?"
Confident.
I chuckle, rolling my eyes. "Of course not, Dean."
"Might ruin my reputation if it did," he says, joking but completely serious.
"Damn, Winchester. I've never seen someone as cocky as you are," I admit, laughing softly.
"That's a good thing, right?" Dean asks.
"No," I sigh.
Worry. Guilty. Upset.
What the hell is up with this person? I'd rather not know their emotions 24/7. If they could fuck off now, it would be greatly appreciated.
"Confidence is a bad thing?" He asks.
Confusion.
"Depends on the amount. It's good to be confident in yourself, but not too confident. It can become overbearing and annoying. Especially if they have so much high confidence that they don't ever believe they've done something wrong. You see what I'm getting at?" I ask.
"Yeah," Dean says softly.
Guilty. Upset. Frustrated.
Frustrated and guilty at the same time? That's new. Didn't even know that existed. Why would they be like that? Why is it only happening now? It started yesterday, first day I arrived. What's going on with me? I'm officially going crazy.
"So, what's with all the girls throwing themselves at you?" I ask, changing the subject.
Surprised. Confusion.
"What?" Dean asks, taken aback. He clears his throat, calming down. "I don't know, really. Sam and I have dealt with this for awhile now. It's pretty annoying, though. I can't enjoy my time without someone trying to throw themselves at me, or Sam," Dean says.
Upset. Exhausted.
"Wow," I say quietly. "That's pretty awful. Why do they continue, even after you show your disinterest?"
Confusion. Shock.
"What makes you think I don't want them?" He asks.
"You wouldn't even look at them. You kept talking to Sam as if they weren't there. If that's not disinterest, I don't know what is," I reply.
Amused.
"You're annoying, you know that?" Dean chuckles. "I guess Betas are more observant, then."
I bite back from revealing my true second gender. I chuckle in response. "What's it like, being an Alpha?"
Happy. Protective.
"I get my pick of men and women. Anyone I approach wants me already, so it makes things easier. But like I said earlier, it's not fun when people are throwing themselves at you," Dean replies.
Dean stops outside a classroom. "Thanks for showing me, Dean. I would've never found this on my own."
Happy.
"Glad to help," he says. "See you later, Cass."
"Bye, Dean," I reply.
•••
It's finally time for lunch. I walk towards the campus entrance, only to get shoved into a wall. The male Alpha holds me against the wall while trying to scent me.
"Get off of me!" I plead. I look around frantically, unable to see anyone nearby.
Worry.
"Shut up!" He growls.
I try to push him off, to no avail. Tears start streaming down my face and a whimper escapes my lips. The Alpha roughly pushes my head to the side so he can scent me better. I shut my eyes, letting out a soft cry when his lips attack my neck.
Rage. Anger. Hatred.
Almost instantly, the Alpha is gone. My eyes open and I see Dean holding the Alpha in front of him. Fear flashes over the man's face before settling with a chuckle.
"Never pegged Winchester to be the one to find his mate," he says.
I feel my whole world crashing down. I sink to the ground and curl into a ball. Dean knows. He's going to tell the whole school. I'm going to get kicked out for lying about my gender.
Shock. Confusion.
"What?" Dean asks. "He's a Beta."
"No, he's not," the Alpha replies.
Shock. Confusion.
Dean looks over at me before looking back at the Alpha. "That doesn't give you the right to attack him."
"I was only having a little fun, Winchester," he retorts.
Annoyed. Hatred.
Dean drops his grip and sighs. "Just get out of here," he says.
The Alpha follows the directions swiftly. Dean looks at me before sighing. He walks over and sits down next to me. We sit in silence until I can't take it anymore.
"Dean, please talk to me," I plead.
Worry. Confusion. Shock. Upset.
"You're an Omega?" He asks. I sigh, nodding. "Are you okay?"
"No, I'm not okay," I retort, voice cracking. "He forced me into the wall and scented me without my approval. Then he started kissing my neck and you came. I was freaking out, Dean."
"Why were you even going this way? It's a shortcut to the campus entrance," Dean asks.
"I was meeting Gabriel and this was the only way I knew," I reply. "Thanks, Dean."
"Of course." Dean pauses. "Are you gonna be okay?" He asks softly.
"I will be," I sigh.
"Cass?" Gabe asks, walking up to us. "What's wrong? Are you okay?"
"An Alpha attacked me," I tell him. "Dean got him off of me, though."
"Are you okay?" Gabriel repeats.
"Not currently, but I will be," I admit.
"Dean? Castiel?" Sam asks, walking over to us.
"If this place is a shortcut to the exit, then you were about to leave," I tell Dean.
"Not anymore," he replies. "Sorry, Sammy."
"It's okay, I wasn't looking for you for that long. Jo asked me where you were because you never arrived," Sam says.
I look over to Gabe and stifle a laugh. He's eyeing up Sam, who is completely oblivious to the gesture.
Confused. Happy. Amused.
"Him too? Dean asks, referring to being an Omega.
"Obviously," I retort.
"Can I tell Sam?" He asks.
"You found out by accident. I wasn't even ready for you to find out. I've barely known you for a day, Dean," I reply.
"Okay," Dean says. He then stands up and offers his hand out to me.
Anxious. Afraid. Hopeful.
I grab his hand and he pulls me up. We quickly pull away from each other, not wanting to make things awkward. I walk over to Gabe as Dean walks over to Sam.
"Thanks again, Dean," I say.
Happy.
"Of course," he replies.
•••
Dean and I have barely spoken since then. I didn't know what to say, or how to act. He knows my biggest secret. You can't come back from that easily.
Four months have passed by. For some reason, the weird emotions are still there. I've tried explaining it to Gabe, to no avail. He didn't understand.
I ended up booking a therapy appointment. I'm hoping they can tell me what to do about it. Gabe had to drive me, since I don't have a car anymore.
Presently, I'm sitting alone in the waiting room. The door opens, but I don't look up from my phone. The person takes a seat to the left of me.
I look up in confusion, then gasp at the sight of Dean.
Nervous. Scared. Confused. Angry. Annoyed.
I sit back, stunned at the emotions coming from another human. That many, at the same time? Something must seriously be wrong. If only I could find out who it is and help them.
"Dean?" I ask softly.
Relieved. Stunned. Confused.
"Castiel?" Dean asks. "What are you doing here?"
I think for a moment. If he thinks I'm crazy, there won't be much loss. We barely talk and we're not exactly friends.
"I'll tell you. Just don't judge me, okay?" I ask. He nods in agreement. "It's weird." I pause, shifting my gaze to my lap. My head hangs in embarrassment.
"I doubt it's that bad," Dean assures me.
"I can, uh, sense someone else's feelings," I admit.
Shock. Confusion. Relieved.
"Seriously?" He asks.
"I know," I sigh. "It's stupid."
"What are they feeling right now?" Dean asks.
Hopeful. Confused. Anxious.
"Hopeful, confuses, and anxious. Why are you asking?" I question.
"Because that's me," he replies.
I look at him with confusion before it dawns on me. How did I not notice this sooner? I gasp softly at the realization of something.
"Ew!" I screech.
Dean jumps in his seat before glaring at me.
Annoyed.
"What could possibly make you screech like that?" He asks.
"You've had sex like this?!" I hiss. "You didn't stop to think someone else could feel the overwhelming emotions? I got a massive migraine because of you!"
Stunned. Guilty. Nervous. Uncomfortable.
"I never thought of it like that," Dean admits in a small voice.
"Obviously," I scoff.
"Mr. Novak?" I hear. Dean and I turn to the door, seeing a male and a female - not much older than us - standing in the doorway looking at us.
"Mr. Winchester?" The other one asks.
Annoyed. Anxious. Guilty. Hopeful.
"Cass, come on," Dean says softly. "Are you seriously upset because I had sex?"
I turn to Dean before glaring. "I'm not upset, I'm pissed. You should know," I retort. "You having sex gave me a migraine that made me think I was about to die. Gabe almost brought me to a hospital each time."
Guilty. Upset. Frustrated. Shocked.
Dean sits there, zoned out. "It was that bad?" He asks quietly.
"Yes, it was that bad!" I retort.
The male in the doorway clears his throat. "Mr. Novak, Mr. Winchester, come with us, please," he says.
"Isn't that against the rules?" I ask, annoyed.
"I talked to our supervisor, explained a bit of the situation. They agreed," the woman says softly.
"I don't want to talk to him," I admit.
Guilty. Upset. Frustrated.
"Well that's what we're here for. You two need to talk this out," the male says.
Reluctantly, we follow them to a different room. We take our seats and the woman decides to speak. "My name is Miss Bradbury, and this is Mr. Kline."
"Please explain to us what is happening," Mr. Kline says.
We both respond, voices overlapping. I glare at him before raising my voice. "I'm speaking, Dean! This is your fault, so I get to explain!"
Annoyed. Angry.
"It's not my fault that you can't handle me having sex!" Dean retorts loudly.
Miss Bradbury chokes on her drink before coughing and putting her drink down. "Excuse me?" She asks.
Dean goes to speak but I glare, shutting him up. "We can sense each other's emotions. Started the day we met. I didn't think about it that much, because I had just moved here that day. It kept me up at nights and I've almost went to the hospital numerous times because of it. All because this assbutt decides to have sex, not even stopping to think how this could affect me."
Anger.
"Well I needed something to distract me from your emotions," Dean retorts.
"It's not like I asked for this, Dean!" I reply angrily.
"May I speak?" Mr. Kline asks. We turn to him, shutting up. I nod, followed by Dean's. "Alpha and a Beta?"
Protective. Annoyed.
"Alpha and Omega, why?" I ask, frowning.
Miss Bradbury instantly gasps and looks between us. "Oh my god," she mutters. "Are you two gay?"
Shock. Confusion. Anger.
"Excuse me?" Dean asks.
"I think he got offended, Charlie," Mr. Kline mutters.
I let out a laugh, unable to contain it. Dean glares at me, but I roll my eyes. "So, what are you two getting at, here?" I ask them.
"He's oblivious," Miss Bradbury tells Mr. Kline. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion and annoyance.
Confusion.
My eyes glance over to Dean.
Shock.
Dean's eyes open wide before they turn to me.
Fear.
What's going on?
Panic.
"Dean, what's wrong?" I ask.
Upset.
Dean just stares at me, making me uncomfortable.
Confusion.
"Dean," I repeat.
Shock.
"Huh?" He asks.
"What the hell just happened to you?" I ask.
"Nothing," he lies.
"You just figured out what's going on, Dean. Tell me," I persist.
He ignores me. "We have to increase the bond for this to happen," he tells them. "It started when we met. That's hardly a strong enough bond. You need the mark."
Mark? Bond? What the hell is he going on about?
"It's the first time we've seen it too, Mr. Winchester. That's the only possible explanation for this, though," Miss Bradbury tells him.
"Would someone please explain to me what's going on?" I ask.
Annoyed. Angry. Frustrated. Hatred.
"All because you moved here, we're mated," Dean says harshly.
I feel my wolf recoil and jump. He hasn't been there in awhile. He's usually sleeping or ignoring me.
I cast my gaze to the floor, wrapping my arms around my legs. Tears prick my eyes feeling my wolf's self-hatred.
"It's not my fault, Dean," I whisper.
Guilty. Worry. Anxious.
"Shit," Dean says quietly. "I didn't mean it like that, okay?"
"How else would you mean it, Dean? You hate that this happened," I reply softly.
"Let me explain," Dean pleads.
"Calm down, Jimmy," I whisper to my wolf. Jimmy stays silent but I know he's in pain. "Jimmy, talk to me. Please." No response. "Please, just this once. I'm begging you. You know I don't bother you unless it's serious." I cry out when I feel a part of me leaving. "Jimmy, come back! Don't leave me!"
I break down into sobs, ignoring the amount of pain I'm going through. I'm pulled into someone's arms, but I continue sobbing. I shake uncontrollably before I realize it's Dean holding me. I gasp as the pain doesn't continue to get worse. It doesn't get better, but I feel as if Jimmy is holding on, just waiting for something to happen.
Then I hear it. And I know why Jimmy stopped.
"Shh, Omega. Don't cry, I'm here," Dean whispers soothingly. "Your Alpha's got you. I'm not going anywhere. I'm sorry for what I said. It'll be okay. I can't lose you."
He continues whispering to me as I feel Jimmy slowly retreating back to me. My sobs slow down as he comes back. I sniffle, pulling away.
"How...how did you do that?" I ask, bewildered.
Guilt. Worry. Nervous. Upset. Confused. Shock.
Dean moves back and looks down into my eyes. "I-I don't know, Cass," he admits. "I can hardly even process what I said. It was instinct."
I feel myself starting to smile, so I bite my lip.
Nervous. Happy. Confused. Guilty.
I look down at the floor, sighing in relief that Jimmy didn't leave. I've heard stories about wolves leaving after they're rejected, but that's only with a really powerful bond. Supposedly, it's only happened like two times out of all of existence. Except now.
Embarrassment.
I look up to Dean, only to follow his gaze. I shift uncomfortably as I realize Miss Bradbury and Mr. Kline are sitting there with bewildered expressions. They seem to get the hint as they break out of their trances.
"Oh...um, my question still stands," Miss Bradbury says.
"I am." I sigh. "I doubt he is, with girls always coming onto him. Not guys."
Upset. Confused. Guilty. Annoyed. Nervous.
"I'm bi, Cass," Dean sighs.
I stare at him for awhile, in shock. Miss Bradbury sips on her tea, staring at us intently. I try to block her out as I try to pronounce an understandable sentence. "You're...what?"
"Bisexual. Just never done anything with a guy yet. Everybody assumed I was straight, so I went with it. If a guy had approached me, I wouldn't have turned him down. Obviously, now that I know, I wouldn't anymore, but still," Dean says, getting more rushed as each sentence passed. Finally, he takes a deep breath. He steadies himself before continuing on calmly. "What I mean is that I'm okay with coming out. I was just shocked, and confused. I always thought my mate would be a girl. I was thrown off. I should've expected this, but for some reason I didn't."
"Dean," I chuckle. "Calm down. I'm fine, Jimmy's okay. I understand what you mean, you know? Male Omegas are rare. You know that. If everyone finds out Gabe and I will be kicked out of college."
"I doubt that, Castiel," Mr. Kline says. "If they do, they'll be the most hated college in the whole country. Kicked out of college for a second gender? Male Alphas especially would be pissed about this. They become protective and want to claim them. As I'm sure you already know, Mr. Novak."
Anger.
"Dean," I say softly.
Guilty.
"Sorry, Cass," Dean sighs. "He reminded me of the day I found out you were an Omega. God, I could've killed that guy right then and there."
I shuffle closer, placing my hand on his arm. "If we already have a bond, and you accepted me, I don't think they can take me from you. Right?" I ask.
Happy. Relieved.
Dean sighs, a smile now on his face. He looks down at me and chuckles softly. "You're right. I still think you need that mark, though. Then they'll back off."
"Calm down, Winchester," I chuckle. "We may be bonded but I'm not going that fast. Stick to scent for now."
Dean nods, smiling. He looks over to the two still sitting, just watching it play out. "Thanks, guys. Now we know," he tells them.
"Of course, Mr. Winchester," Miss Bradbury smiles.
I'm awkward at goodbyes, so I make it short. I rush Dean out of there and as soon as we get outside he starts laughing.
"Oh my god, Cass. What the hell was that?" He asks.
"I'm not good with goodbyes, Dean," I frown.
He chuckles wrapping an arm around me and looking around the parking lot. "Where's your car?" He asks.
"I was supposed to text Gabe when I left. I got into an accident and ruined the front end," I tell him.
Panic.
He turns to me instantly and looks me over. I let him, seeing as he is very worried. I know it wouldn't do much help to interrupt him.
Relieved.
"Thank God, you're okay," he sighs. Dean pulls me over to a black '67 Chevy Impala. I gawk at his car as he hops in the drivers seat. He looks over at me before laughing. "Cass, come on!"
I get in the passengers side and Dean starts the car. "Dean, what are you doing?"
"Taking us home, Cass. You forget we're neighbors," he points out. He pauses before speaking again. "You're never driving again."
"What? Why?" I ask.
"Because I don't want you getting into another accident," Dean replies.
"What, so Gabe is just gonna be my chauffeur now?" I retort.
"No, I will," he replies.
"Do you know how many times I've gone out to get food in the middle of the night because I had a random craving?" I chuckle.
"I don't care, Cass. I'll wake up then," Dean says. I smile at him before looking out the window.
Happy. Content.
"Dean, what are we telling people?" I ask suddenly.
Nervous.
"Do you want to tell them about your second gender?" He asks me.
I contemplate it before responding. "Yes."
Happy. Relieved.
•••
I get up the next morning and get ready. As I'm getting a quick breakfast, I realize something. I walk over to my bedroom drawer and take out everything I use for my heats. I carry them to the kitchen and put them in the trash can.
"Cass?" Gabe asks groggily. "Why are you throwing them out?"
"Gabe, why are you awake? It's like 6:30," I ask.
"Because I'm used to you asking to take my keys from me every morning. When you didn't this morning I realized something was wrong," he replies. "Now why did you throw them out?"
There's a knock on the door and I sigh. Gabe walks over to the door and opens it. I quickly rush over and see Dean with a frown on his face.
"Where's Cass?" He asks.
I come around the corner and reply. "Right here, Dean. Let me just get my bag," I tell him.
As I grab my bag, I hear their conversation. "Cass doesn't hang out with Alphas. Sure, you two were friendly, but not once did he ever say anything about talking outside of college. Besides the day you two met, obviously."
"I...um, well," Dean stutters. I walk over to them, bag on my shoulder. He notices me and smiles.
Relieved. Happy. Nervous. Uncomfortable.
"Gabe, back off. You're making him nervous," I retort. I stand beside Dean, looking over to Gabe. "Should I tell him?"
"Does this have anything to do with you throwing away your toys?" Gabe asks.
I gasp in shock.
Amused. Happy. Nervous.
"Gabriel!" I hiss. Dean lets out a snort, so I slap him playfully. "Shut up, Dean! This isn't funny."
"It kinda is," he mumbles.
"Gabe, can I have your keys?" I ask.
Panic.
"Cass, wait!" Dean says quickly. "Gabriel, don't you dare move!" His Alpha voice booms and the two of us stop in place. "I told you no more driving, Castiel. I'm not joking. If you get into another accident, I'll never forgive myself."
Instantly, I regret opening my mouth. I look down the floor in shame. "I'm sorry, Alpha. You're right."
Happy. Content. Protective. Guilty.
Dean sighs, turning me to face him. He lifts up my chin so our eyes meet. "I'm sorry for using my Alpha voice on you. And Gabriel, for that matter. I panicked. Do you forgive me, Omega?" He pleads, desperately wanting my forgiveness.
"Of course I forgive you," I retort.
Dean chuckles, dropping his hands to his sides. "It's been him this whole time?" Gabe asks.
I jump in shock. Dean chuckles softly. "Apparently," Dean says.
"It was his emotions that annoyed the crap out of me," I add.
Gabe looks at us in shock. "You barely knew each other before it started!" He exclaims.
"Gabe," I sigh. "Don't freak out."
"What? Why would I freak out? Is there something else?" He asks.
"Jimmy was leaving," I mutter quietly.
"What?!" Gabe asks loudly. His expression is unreadable. "He's back, right?"
"Of course he's back," I retort.
"Dean, what are you still doing here?" Sam asks, walking out of his apartment. "Is that Castiel?"
"Well hello to you too, Sam," I reply sarcastically.
Dean chuckles before rolling his eyes. "Yes, it is. Do you want a ride, Sam? We were about to leave."
"Wait!" Gabe whines. "Is Jimmy okay? I've never heard a wolf leaving before!"
He starts to panic, startling me when Sam walks over to him. Sam places his hands on Gabe's shoulder and lifts his chin.
"Calm down, Omega," Sam whispers.
Dean and I gasp in shock. Sam continues to whisper sweet things to Gabriel, as if on instinct. It probably is. When Gabe pulls away, two of them stare at each other in shock.
"Holy shit," Dean mutters. My phone buzzes. I look at Dean with panic. He senses, quickly looking over at me. "What's wrong?"
Sam and Gabe look over, hearing Dean's worried voice. "It's 7:00, Dean," I tell him. "That was my alarm to go to first class."
Dean quickly leads me and Sam down to the Impala. He revs up the engine and we head to classes.
•••
Dean told me at lunch time to prepare myself for a date at 6:30pm. We barely know each other, despite being mates, and living as neighbors for the past couple months.
He picks me up for our date on time, informing me that we have a reservation for 7pm at a cute diner. Apparently it's a normal diner, but once a week, it turns into a romantic spot for couples to go to on a date.
After driving for awhile, I sigh. "Dean, how much longer?" I ask.
"We're almost there," he chuckles.
A couple minutes later, and we're parked outside. I look up at the sign reading: The Roadhouse. Dean takes his hand in mine after we exit the car. We walk inside and Dean stops.
"Dean!" A blonde-haired girl exclaims, wrapping her arms around him.
I scowl at her. Dean laughs, hugging her back and pulling away. "Hey, Jo. Same table as always?"
"Obviously," she retorts. Jo leads us to a table, where we sit down. "I know your order. But what about your friend here?"
I scowl again. She's practically hanging off of Dean's side. Dean laughs at my expression. I disregard it, and answer her. "I'll have whatever he's having. And I'm not a 'friend'."
Her eyebrows furrow as she thinks of what I mean. Jo gets up and goes to the kitchen, still confused. "You're cute when you're jealous," Dean flirts.
A blush creeps onto my face. "Shut up," I mutter. "No, I'm not."
"Yes, you are. You can't lie to me, Castiel," Dean reminds me.
I bite my lip, looking down at the table. My hands rest on the piece of furniture between the two of us. Dean grabs one of my hands and entwines our fingers. I look up into his eyes and smile.
"So, Dean. Tell me about you," I say, slightly laughing. "All I know is every girl is all over you, you have a brother named Sam, and you're my neighbor."
"Well, my car is my most prized possession. She's my baby. She's a 1967 black Chevy Impala. My father gave her to me," he replies. "I grew up here in Lawrence with Sammy. I basically raised him, since my dad was always out working."
"That's awful, Dean. What about your mother?" I ask.
"She...uh, died in a house fire when I was four," he says softly.
I squeeze his hand softly. He smiles in response. "Dean, you shouldn't have had to raise Sam all by yourself. You should've had a childhood of your own."
Dean shrugs. "I turned out okay, at least," he says.
"What are you going to college for?" I ask him.
"Mechanics. My dad's friend Bobby has his own garage, so I'm hoping to work there. Maybe even take over when he retires," Dean replies. "You?"
"I want to be a writer," I admit.
Dean pulls his hand out of mine to unravel the napkin, and take a swig of his water. I do the same, noticing that Jo is carrying our plates. She sets them down and takes a seat next to Dean. He moves over, so Jo isn't pressed against him anymore. She moves closer to him, but not on top of him.
She takes a fry off of Dean's plate and plops it into her mouth. "Hey!" Dean exclaims. "That was mine."
"You'll get over it, Winchester," Jo retorts, keeping in her laughter. "How come you brought your friend to date night?"
"Maybe because I'm not a friend," I counter. "I've told you that already."
"Dean is straight, if you didn't know," she tells me.
I look over at Dean, who sighs. "I'm bisexual, Jo."
"What?!" She asks loudly. "So you two are actually on a date?"
"We're trying, but someone keeps interrupting," I reply harshly.
"Cass," Dean sighs.
"Dean and his Betas," Jo chuckles.
I bite my lip to keep myself from spilling the truth. She doesn't need to know I'm an Omega. She'd ask too many questions.
"Yeah," Dean replies awkwardly.
"Sorry for intruding," Jo says, standing up. "I'll see you later, Dean." She turns to me. "Your name is..?"
"Castiel Novak," I reply.
"Jo Harvelle, if you didn't know," she says nicely. Then she walks away.
Dean lets out a big breath. "So, you want to be a writer?"
"Yeah," I reply. "I've always been good at writing, punctuation, grammar. Things like that. I don't like doing essays, but if I free write, I can get lost in my thoughts and create a really good book. I love it. It's like my escape."
"What type of things do you usually write?" Dean asks.
Instead of responding, I eat. I'm really self-conscious of my writing when it comes to people I know. If I don't know them, I'm fine sharing it. But if I do, I'm afraid they'll judge me for it and leave.
Dean looks at me skeptically for an answer. "Just books," I shrug.
He laughs at my response. "Well I bet your books are really good. How do you come up with all of your ideas?"
"Usually, when I have insomnia. My mind races and it's the time when I get the most creative, have more ideas. It'll be late at night, and everyone is already asleep. It just comes to me, somehow. I don't know how to explain it," I admit.
•••
We continue making chatter throughout the rest of the date. Around midnight, we finally left. Jo didn't mind staying later, so we could finish our date. I'm starting to warm up to her, if I'm honest.
The next day, I met up in the courtyard. We talked for a little while, until I had to get to class. Dean and I haven't seen each other since the courtyard this morning. It's now lunch, so I decide to wait for him by the cafeteria doors. Suddenly, an Alpha walks over to me. Immediately, I recognize him. He's the one who attacked me before Dean found out.
"Hey, Omega," he says calmly. "Waiting for that brother of yours again?" I go to respond, but he cuts me off. "I'll keep you company until then." I stare at him in panic and fear. As he continues on talking, I become acutely aware of how close he's becoming.
Suddenly, he's pressed up against me.
And then he's not.
The whole cafeteria goes dead silent. Seeing Dean like this stunned everyone, including me.
Anger. Rage. Hatred. Disgust. Jealous.
"Did you not get the hint the first time?!" Dean booms. "He is not your Omega."
"He's not yours either!" The Alpha retorts.
Dean goes to punch the Alpha, but I stop him. "Dean, don't!" I plead. The Alpha cowers at Dean and he lowers his fist. I walk over to Dean and place my hand on his chest. I lean my forehead on his before sighing. "Don't listen to him. Just because we don't have the mark, doesn't mean I'm not yours."
"Never seen an Alpha that way with a Beta before," a girl says. "Wish he was that way with me."
Jealousy washes over me. I turn to face her and walk over. "Just because I smell like a Beta, does not mean I am," I tell her.
"What's that supposed to mean? You're an Alpha?" She chuckles at herself. "I don't believe it."
"I'm an Omega, you assbutt!" I say harshly. My eyebrows are furrowed in anger. I hear people muttering, but I pay them no attention.
"Even if you were, Dean wouldn't pick you," she sneers.
"You don't get to 'pick' anything," I retort. "Your wolf chooses its mate, not you."
"So, in other words, he wants someone else?"
With that, I punch her. She slips backwards, but her friends catch her. Everyone looks at me in shock. I'm turned around, seeing it's Dean.
Panic.
He lifts up my hand, examining it for injuries.
Worry. Relief.
"You could've been hurt, Cass!" He sighs, letting go. I put my hand down at my side and roll my eyes.
"Dean, I'm okay," I reply. I glance back at the girl, seeing her hold a bloody tissue to her nose. "Think I got her pretty good, though."
Annoyed. Amused.
"Did you have to punch her?" Dean asks.
"Did you have to push that Alpha away? Obviously. He wanted me. She said you didn't want me. Same thing," I retort.
Amused. Happy. Relieved.
"Okay, okay, I get it. Just leave that stuff to me, okay?" He asks. "I told you numerous times, I don't want you getting hurt."
"You're so protective it's sickening," I joke.
He chuckles, pressing a kiss to my forehead. Then he pulls away and looks at a big crowd of people who are still muttering things quietly. Dean brings the both of us over to them, and they stop.
Annoyed. Jealous.
"Any questions?" He asks politely.
"None of us want to get punched," a girl mutters.
"Don't say anything stupid then," I retort.
"Cass," Dean warns.
"Sorry, Alpha," I say, looking down at the floor.
"He won't punch you. Speak freely," Dean says.
"What about you?" A guy asks. "I don't want to get pummeled for asking a question."
"He won't," I reply.
"I won't?" Dean asks me.
"No, you won't," I say sternly. "Because the second you do, you'll notice my emotions shifting into panic. Then you'll panic, then we'll comfort each other. There's no point."
Dean chuckles softly. "Sounds about right," he replies.
"You don't have a mark," another guy points out.
"I'll gladly give him one," Dean smirks.
Confident.
"Dean!" I say, face flushing. "We talked about this."
Amused.
"Right," he chuckles. Then his face pales.
Guilty.
I see him taking off his jacket, but I stop him. "Dean, what's wrong?"
"He's just hot!" A girl claims.
"Thank you, but no," Dean says. "We agreed that you'd have my scent, Cass. Earlier wouldn't have happened if I gave you my jacket."
I let him take it off and put it on me. "I'm sorry, I forgot," I reply.
Worry. Guilty.
"Hey," he says, making me meet his gaze. "It's not your fault, okay?"
"Can we ask questions now?" Someone pipes up.
We turn to them and nod. She takes a deep breath before speaking. "What did you mean 'the first time'? You said he didn't get the hint the first time, to that Alpha," she says.
Dean clenches his fists. I take his hand in mine to calm him down. It works. "Four months ago," Dean starts. "He forced himself on Cass, scenting him and kissing his neck. Cass was yelling for him to get off and I was across campus. I was on my way to leave, so it was convenient Cass was in the shortcut exit. Anyway, somehow I wound up sprinting to him, no idea how I knew where he was. I should've been tired from running across campus, but I wasn't. As soon as I saw what was happening, my wolf took over. I don't remember exactly what happened after that, but I remember somehow finding out Cass was an Omega."
"Dean," I chuckle. "She asked what happened, not how you found out." His face flushes.
Embarrassed.
"Sorry," he mutters. "Technically, I did explain it. Just in a lot of detail."
"How come you guys can sense it when others have to be marked?" A guy asks.
I shuffle uncomfortably. Dean looks at me and sighs. "Do you want me to tell them?"
"No, I will," I whisper. I clear my throat, starting at a normal volume. "Has anyone heard the legend about the man who supposedly lost his wolf?"
Everyone mutters a 'yes'. "What does that have to do with anything?" Someone asks.
"Because there's things missing from that legend," I reply.
"What, did you know the man?" A guy asks.
"In a way, I am that man," I retort. "Jimmy, my wolf, came back."
People start muttering and gasping. "He left and came back? How?"
"Uh." I take a deep breath. "Dean and I were trying to figure out why we could feel each other's emotions. We ended up in a therapists office waiting for our session. I was sitting in the room alone when Dean absentmindedly takes a seat next to me. We admitted we could and I got pissed at him."
"Why?"
"Don't!" Dean booms. But it's too late. Jealousy has already set in. I let go of his hand and cross my arms. He turns to me with a sad expression. "Dammit, you had to avoid one question!" Dean groans in frustration, but I glare. "I didn't know, okay?"
"Doesn't give you the excuse to sleep around while you felt my emotions," I retort. "I didn't want to fucking worry you, but you did send me to the hospital before. Honestly, I couldn't care less right now."
Guilty. Worry. Upset. Self-hatred.
"Cass," he whispers, voice cracking. "What happened?"
"It was when I got into the car accident," I admit. "The headache started as I was driving, but I knew I only had a couple more minutes on the road. I tried pushing through. Usually I let it consume me until I fall asleep, which doesn't take long. As you can guess, I couldn't do it. I passed out behind the wheel and the next thing I know I woke up in a hospital."
I hear him whimper and I start to panic.
Self-hatred. Guilty. Upset. Frustrated. Annoyed. Angry. Worry.
Quickly, I walk over to him. I place my hands on his face and force him to look at me. "Dean, don't you dare. I'm serious. I'm fine now. My bruises are healed. Other than that, I'm basically unscathed. You didn't know that would happen."
He chuckles softly, shaking his head. "I'm supposed to be reassuring you, not the other way around," he says quietly.
"Tough," I retort, smiling. "I did it for the both of us."
"I thought Dean was straight," a girl says.
Annoyed.
"That's an assumption," Dean retorts. "I've always been bi, same with Sam. Just because you think something is true, doesn't mean it is."
"Sam is bi too?" Someone asks.
"Yes, I am," Sam says. I jump and Dean grabs onto me. People coo at us. Dean huffs, letting go. "Sorry, guys."
"It's fine, Sam," I sigh. "Hey, Gabriel."
"Hey, Cassie," Gabe replies.
"Who is Gabriel? He's cute!" A girl exclaims.
Sam growls, grabbing onto Gabriel. I chuckle at them. "Sammy, let go of him," Dean says.
Sam huffs, making me and Gabe laugh. "Calm down, Samsquatch."
Sam narrows his eyes at Gabriel. I bite my lip to hold in a laugh. "Gabriel is my brother, Sam's mate."
"So both Winchester's are off limits?" A girl asks, disappointment clear in her voice.
"Yes, so get over it," I retort.
"Cass," Dean warns.
I glare at him. "What, Dean? They're basically asking for Jimmy to leave!"
"And if he tries, I'm here," Dean points out. "I got him to come back last time."
"You don't even know how you did it," I scowl.
"It was instinct," Dean says, putting his hands on my shoulders. He looks me in the eyes before taking a deep breath and continuing. "That means it'll continue to happen like that. I'm here, Cass. So is Jimmy. We're not going anywhere."
"You promise?" I whisper.
"I promise," he replies softly.
Happy. Content. Admiration.
"You can stop admiring me, Dean," I chuckle. "I'm already yours."
"Doesn't mean I have to stop," he remarks. I roll my eyes, a smile still on my face.
Suddenly, I gasp. "Dean, I need to leave," I demand.
"What's wrong?" He asks. I disregard his question, walking towards the exit. He follows after me and turns me to face him. "Why are you so freaked out?"
"Can't you smell?!" I retort.
All at once, six Alphas stand up. They start to walk over to me, making me back up. Dean sniffs the air before turning to the Alphas.
Angry. Protective. Jealous.
"Mine," he growls.
"Dean, let's just go," I plead.
"Cassie, what's going on?!" Gabriel asks.
I feel slick start to leak. Dean's gaze flips directly onto me. "Gabriel, take Castiel and leave. Right now," Dean orders.
I whimper at his Alpha tone. Dean puts his hands over his face, growling. "Dean, calm down!" Sam demands.
"Cassie, let's go," Gabe says.
He leads me to the cafeteria doors, only to stop when they slam shut. Two Alphas keep their gaze locked onto me. One grabs ahold of me and shoves me into the wall.
"Dean!" I whimper. I struggle to get the Alpha off of me. "Dean!"
The other door opens and I'm being dragged out. The person lifts me into their arms. By the scent, it's Dean. He carries me down the hallway and out to his Impala.
He drives off as I shift uncomfortably in the seat. "Don't ruin my Baby," Dean growls.
"I'm sorry, Alpha," I whimper. "I didn't expect for it to come today, I swear."
"You should pay attention to your schedule, you know," Dean remarks. "Imagine if I wasn't there. What would've you done then, huh?"
"Alpha, I'm sorry," I plead. I continue to shift in my seat. "I need to pick things up, Dean. I figured it wouldn't happen for a few weeks at least, so I threw everything out."
Dean growls. "I'm right here, Omega," he points out.
"I didn't want my first time to be when I'm in heat, Dean!" I say angrily.
Shock. Guilty. Confusion.
"Cass, I'm sorry," he says softly. "My wolf is trying to take over. I'm trying to hold him off."
"I guess I'm not helping, am I?" I ask rhetorically.
"No, you're not," he chuckles. "Your slick is going to haunt me all the time until I can taste it."
"Fuck," I whimper. "Don't say things like that, Dean."
"Why?" He asks, smirking.
"You piece of shit!" I growl. "Don't do this to me."
Dean chuckles. "Alright, so how's this going to work?" He asks, pulling into the mall.
I try to think of a plan, to no avail. My Omega side wants to just tell him to take me home, but my rational side is still trying to piece something together.
"Well you can't leave me in the car, and I can't go in there at all, so I'm fucked," I sigh.
"You're not, but you can be," he retorts.
I whimper, shifting in my seat still. "Dean," I say, my voice gruff and stern. "Take me somewhere. Anywhere."
"Home? Hotel?" He asks.
"I'd rather not have anyone walk in and see," I chuckle dryly.
"Hotel," Dean says sternly. Quickly, he pulls out of the parking lot and finds a hotel in a matter of minutes. We both exit the car and Dean takes a deep breath. "You don't know how hard it was to hold back in that confined space."
"Yeah, yeah," I reply sarcastically. Awkwardly, I walk into the lobby and up to the front desk.
The Beta looks up at me and smiles. "Single or double?" She asks. Her eyes flicker to behind me and I can sense Dean walking up behind me.
"I've gotta go soon, Cass," Dean admits. "I'll pay and then leave. I won't be able to hold him off for much longer."
"Double," I tell her.
Aroused. Nervous. Happy. Excited. Confused.
"Cass?" Dean asks.
"Dean, I have nothing with me," I point out, turning to face him. "Most of all, no suppressants or scent blockers."
Dean's face gets stern and his body goes rigid. He walks up next to me and we both turn to the Beta. "How much is a double?"
"$124 an evening," she replies.
"Dean," I say sternly. "That's too much."
He hands her a credit card before responding. "I'll pay daily," he tells her.
She nods, then does her job. After handing back the card, she hands us a key. "Second floor, first room on the left."
Swiftly, I head to the elevator. Dean grabs my arm and pulls me to the stairs. I scowl at him, but follow. We enter the room and instantly, he pushes me onto the bed.
We get comfortable quickly after that, adjusting so my head is resting on a pillow in the center of the bed. Dean dives down for a deep kiss, then trails his lips down to my scent gland. He nuzzles it before pressing soft kisses. I whimper, unbuttoning his flannel and slipping it off. Soon enough, we're down to our boxers.
"Are you sure?" Dean whispers.
"I need your knot," I whimper.
He groans, pulling off my boxers. At the same time, I slip his off. "How do you want me?"
"Do I have to present?" I ask timidly. "I don't want that to be our first."
"Up to you, baby," Dean replies.
"Just do it like this," I sigh.
He growls, spreading my legs. His finger slides in easily due to all of the slick I'm producing. Dean works his way up to four before he pulls out.
"You ready?" He asks.
"Yes," I reply, breathlessly.
Dean adjusts to where his legs are on opposite sides of mine. Slowly, he guides his cock to my entrance. As he pushes in, I clench around him. Even with the prep, it still feels like a really big stretch. My face must show my pain, because Dean halts to a stop.
"Do I need to pull out?" He asks softly.
"No," I groan. "Keep going."
Soon enough, he's bottomed out. He waits for me to adjust before moving again. Dean leans down, capturing me in a kiss as he goes at a steady, slow pace. I moan against his lips, without even really registering it.
Dean pulls away, leaning his forehead against mine. "Faster?" He suggests.
"Do it," I beg.
He dives back onto my neck, attacking it with his lips. Dean pulls out to the tip before slamming back into me. I moan, squirming under his grasp. He chuckles against my neck as he does the same thing again, emitting the same reaction as before.
"Guessing that feels good, huh?" He smirks against my neck.
"Don't get cocky," I reply softly, chuckling. "It's just that one spot you keep hitting." I squeal as he hits it dead-on this time, instead of slightly grazing against it. "Alpha, that spot. Keep hitting it."
"Okay, Omega," Dean chuckles smugly. And he does, making me wrap my legs around his waist. My hands make their way into Dean's hair, messing it up greatly. I tug on it softly when he starts licking my scent gland. He moans, pulling away. "Don't worry, I'm holding him back so he doesn't do it."
"Mark me?" I ask. He nods in reply. "Thank you for holding him back."
Dean's face lights up at the praise. He pulls me into a quick kiss before muttering something. "You're welcome, Omega."
•••
And that's how we spent my heat. A day after I went into heat, Dean went into rut. We were both exhausted by the time it ended, so we spent the two days after that in bed.
Four months pass by, surprisingly fast. There's only one month of classes left. I had taken all of my exams, leaving us all to recap for finals at the end of the year. Sam and I had switched apartments, so now we're both with our mates. Dean and I haven't gotten around to the actual mating bite, just because I was always afraid. I didn't know how it would be, especially with the bond Dean and I had, already being so strong.
It seemed it didn't matter in the end, because one day it all changed.
I wake up to go to the bathroom, only to puke up the contents of my last meal. I don't know what time it is, but it's earlier than normal. Usually I'd wake up to my alarm, and then wake up Dean. Today I woke up, and Dean was still asleep. After letting everything out, I start to dry heave. Why can't Dean wake up? I want my Alpha.
I sit in front of the toilet for a couple minutes before getting up and continuing with my morning routine. There is no point in trying to go back to sleep. I'll have to get ready soon anyway. After getting ready, I walk over to my old apartment. I let myself in and go into their kitchen. I take some of my brothers' candy stash before eating it and looking for actual breakfast. Gabe will kill me later. I hum a random tune as I scurry to find food.
"What are you doing?"
I jump at the voice. Turning around, I realize it's only Sam. "Don't scare me like that," I pout.
"Are you okay?" He asks, walking over to me.
I cock my head to the side, giving him a confused look. "What makes you think I'm not?"
"Because your scent is different. I can't really explain it," he sighs.
"Sam, I woke up puking. If you think you can still smell it, you're insane," I snap.
Sam holds his hands up in defense. "Damn, what's going on with you?" He asks.
"I'm fine, Sam!" I groan.
Panic. Worry. Fear. Confusion.
I growl in frustration, shoving past Sam to the couch. I bury my face into a pillow as I wait for Dean to show up. What the hell is wrong with me?
On cue, the door opens. Dean sighs in relief, sitting on the couch and pulling me into his lap.
I squirm in his grasp until he lets me go. I huff, curling into the corner of the couch. "Cass?" He asks, clearly confused.
"Don't bother," Sam sighs. "He's being bipolar."
"Screw you, Sam," I growl.
"Calm down, Omega," Dean chuckles.
I can't help the smile that comes across my face. My stomach does flips at the nickname. It's never affected me this much before. Why now?
"Sorry," I sigh. "I guess it's from waking up with nausea."
"What?" Gabe asks groggily, walking out of his room with a dazed look. "Cass, come here." I follow him hesitantly and we take a seat on his bed. He sighs before talking in a hushed tone. "Is it morning sickness?"
I start to panic. No, this can't be happening. It's not happening. I'm dreaming. I'm only in college. I can't be pregnant.
The bedroom door slams open and I yelp. Dean relaxes at the sight of me. "What's wrong? Gabe, what could possibly scare him so much?"
"Having a pup," Gabe says nonchalantly. My breathing hitches and I shove him off the bed. He groans in pain. "Point taken!"
"What?" Dean asks softly. I bite my lip, looking down at the mattress beneath me.
"We spent a whole week together, Dean. With no condom at all. It was bound to happen," I point out.
He sighs, walking over to me and sitting down. "Are you sure?"
"No," I admit.
He entwines our fingers before kissing my temple softly. "You need to take a test."
"I don't want to," I whine.
Hurt. Confusion.
I whimper, knowing it's my fault I've hurt him. "Cassie, what's wrong?" Gabriel asks softly.
"The only way I'll take a test is if we go to the doctors. That won't happen, though. I don't want to be stared at for being a male Omega," I admit.
Dean sighs. He wraps me in his arms and presses a kiss to the top of my head. "It doesn't matter if you're male or female, Cass. You're my Omega, and nobody can change that. I need you to take a test for me. If we're having a pup, we need to make sure you're eating right. I'm going to go book an appointment, okay? I'll let you know when we're leaving."
All I do is grunt in response. I don't want to hurt him, so I accept. A smile places itself on Dean's face, taking me aback. I've never seen him so happy before. My heart warms at the sight.
He pulls out his phone as he exits the room. "Gabe, what if I am?" I ask softly.
"We'll all help out. You're not going to do this alone," he assures me. "Plus, Dean is already really happy about it. You know he practically raised Sam. I think you'll do fine."
A smile creeps onto my face. "Thanks, Gabriel."
"See, I can be serious if I want to be," he points out.
"And now it's ruined," I reply.
We walk into the living room where Dean is on the phone. "Yeah, okay. Got it. Thanks. Bye," he says before hanging up. He turns around to face us and jumps. "Don't scare me like that."
"Sorry," I reply, chuckling. "When's the appointment?"
"After classes, today. Surprisingly, they had an opening," he says.
"Go get ready, all of you," I tell them, sitting down on the couch.
•••
As I'm walking to the cafeteria, an Alpha pins me to the lockers. "Your scent is different," he points out.
"Thanks for noticing," I reply sarcastically.
His face turns to rage and he punches me in the stomach. I bend forwards, clutching onto it in pain. "Don't taunt me."
"Hey!" Sam yells. Now, everyone nearby is staring. The Alpha groans in frustration. He lets go of me and I fall to the ground. "Cass, are you okay?"
"He punched my stomach," I cry out.
And then the unexpected happens. Sam punches the Alpha in the face, sending him flying to the ground. I look at Sam in shock.
Confusion.
"What's going on?" Dean asks. His eyes glance over to me and he runs over. "Cass, what happened?"
"Dean, is my scent different?" I ask.
Dean stops in his tracks for a few moments. "Yeah. Why is it like that?"
"I'm pregnant," I tell him.
He stares down at me in shock as all of the bystanders are whispering. A few moments pass before he speaks again. "You're serious?" I nod.
"Stupid Omega!" The Alpha hisses.
I grab onto Dean's hand to stop him from going to the Alpha. Dean turns to me and sighs. "What happened with him? And why are you on the ground?" He pulls me to my feet and I wince at the pain in my stomach.
"He punched my stomach," I tell Dean.
Sam holds him back as Dean struggles to get to the Alpha. Fear flashes in the strangers' eyes before he scurries away. A few moments pass by before Sam lets go.
"I already hit him, Dean. You're just gonna make it worse if you go after him," Sam says softly. "Let's go to lunch."
"Sam," I call out. He turns to face me. "Thank you."
"Of course," he replies.
•••
As expected, the doctor confirmed my pregnancy. The Beta was shocked when we came in. It had been four months, and everything kicked in on the same day. Usually, the scent would become different before the morning sickness. That usually occurred between two and three months, not four.
We ended up having a baby boy. We decided on the name Jack, figuring it was a perfect fit for the little boy.
It has been seventeen years since then. Jack presented as an Alpha a little while ago. He presented late, but nobody minded. Right now, we're celebrating. Gabriel, Sam, their daughter – Charlie – me, Jack, and Dean. We're seated in a diner that Dean had taken me to on our first date.
"Hey, Dean. What's it been, ten years since I last saw you?" Jo asks.
"About that long," Dean agrees.
"Hey, Jo," Sam says.
"How've you been, Sam?" She asks.
"Good. Nice to see you're still working at the diner," Sam replies.
"Obviously," Jo chuckles. "Who are the others?"
"You remember Castiel?" Dean asks.
Jo looks at me in shock. "Novak, right?" She asks. I nod. "That was like twenty years ago. Only reason I remember you was because I found out Dean was bisexual then." Dean laughs at that. "Who's the rest of them?"
"This is our son, Jack. That's Charlie, Sam and Gabe's daughter. Gabe is my brother, Sam's mate," I tell her.
"Wait. Is that why you got pissy when I was with you? You knew Dean was your mate?" Jo asks. I nod. "Damn, I thought you were a Beta."
I chuckle at that. "It's nice to see you again, Jo," I tell her.
"You too," she replies.
•••
And that was that. I had everything I ever wanted. A mate, a child, a family, and friends. Finally, I had a stable life. It took a long time, but it happened. It was the best I could ask for. I just hope Jack gets everything, too.
I loved the wedding ring I now had, along with the mating bite on my neck. It made me feel complete. Like everything was perfect.
And maybe it wasn't exactly perfect. But I'll settle for second best.
THE END
