Music
Rain drops race down my window on that empty bus illuminated by the orange tint from street lights. my head was pressed against the cold glass, dark hair plastered to my face from humidity, the sleeves of my mustered yellow Hogwarts jumper were pulled over my icy hands only to spare me from the discussing mystery substances covering the bus. i hummed quietly along to Led Zeppelin that was blaring in my metallic black headphones that were cupped over my ears.
the bus came to a slow halt, a man and woman got off, leaving me almost alone on the bus. i can't say i like the bus, but it beats rotting in my nasty New York apartment all day. the greasy walls, the discussing smells, and the shady neighborhood, yeah, the bus beats it any day. it was about ten at night and i was going no where specific, only riding along looking out my window.
about an hour passed and i was still on the bus, zoned out staring out my window out into the dark city, just thinking, when a wad of paper smacked me on the side of the face. at this point there was only one other person on the bus, so my eyes go straight to him. i glare.
he only smiles back at me. he was on the opposite side of the bus a few seats up. i try to go back to looking out the window, but i could still see out of the corner of my eye that he was staring at me. i sighed, looking over at him annoyed and mouthed, "what do you want?" now, i'm not usually rude to strangers, but it's late and i haven't slept a full night in days.
he continued to smile. "what are you listening to?" the stranger mouthed back, tapping on his headphones. i relaxed a bit and held up my phone, letting him see what i was listening to. his eyes widened a bit and his smile grew as he lifted his phone for me to see. we were listening to the same song.
"huh." i mumbled not knowing what else to reply. i looked back out the window out at the black streets, music still playing in my headphones. a minute or so passed when the stranger plopped down on the seat in front of me. one side of his headphones pulled back so he could hear both the music and the sounds around him.
"so you're a classic rock fan huh?" he said smirking. i shrugged and he continued, "me too, my dad used to play it all the time when i was a kid, so it grew on me. ya know?" i looked at him, for the first time actually looking at his face, his face was scattered with light freckles and his eyes were a bright shade of green.
my mouth was dry. "um, yeah." he cocked a eyebrow, "have a favorite song?" he asked. i focused and tried to decide on a song. "uh, Ramble On or Black Dog." i finally said.
we talked for a bit about music, then about other things, like stories and about our families. he's lived alone with his little brother named Sam since his dad died in a car accident when he was 18. his mom died in a house fire when he was 4.
i looked down at my phone, 5 a.m. already? i needed to get home, i had work that afternoon. "damn, this is my stop,"he said, looking out the window at the apartment complex we were approaching. "see you later," he said getting up from his seat. "wait, i didn't catch your name."
he smirked, "Dean. Dean Winchester. And you?" i couldn't help smile a little, "Castiel Novak." Dean licked his lips thinking. "that's a nice name. ...we should get a drink some time." he said grabbing my arm, whilst pulling a pen out of the side pocket of his backpack. "here's my number, are you free Sunday afternoon?"
i nodded, taking my arm back looking down at the shiny, still damp ink on my for arm. "bye," i said at last as he headed to the front of the bus. i watched him descend the few steep bus steps, and just as he reached the bottom he turned and winked at me.
the bus doors closed leaving sitting there dumbfounded, my mustered yellow jumper sleeves hanging over my hands.
i think i was just asked out by Dean Winchester.
How did i do this time? did you like it? i tried to incorporate smooth Dean and awkward Cas.
till next time, Bye Internet. ~Deanie
