table for three

Dean wiped his eyes as he sat down with his daughter Mary. On the way there, a Led Zeppelin song was playing. The one that played at his wedding to Castiel. That was the best day of his life. The day Dean and Castiel finally got married. It was so beautiful and magical. A year after that they adopted a newborn and named her Mary. She the was the center of their universe. But to Dean, she was only had of his universe. Cas was the other half. That angel meant more to him than anything to him.  Today was Mary's birthday. And it had been a little under a year sincenit happened. Dean was just torn but he had to keep himself together today.

Dean got them a table for three and helped his 5 year old daughter into her chair.

"Thanks taking me out to dinner, Daddy." Mary smiled at Dean.

Dean smiled back. "Of course sweetheart... I'm not good at the whole presents thing. Papa was always better at that. But you tell me what you want and I'll go get it right now. I know I should've asked this earlier, but what thing do you want the most for your birthday?"

"You can't get me what I want, daddy." She frowned some.

"Well what is it?"

"I want Papa."

Dean almost broke then and there. "Y-you're right. I can't get him back... But we can go see him after dinner." He took in a shaky breath and looked over the menu, reading off the options for his daughter.

Castiel Winchester's death anniversary was coming up. He bravely killed one of his own kind to save his husband and daughter. After that, no one was after Dean and Mary. They were after Castiel. And Castiel gave himself up to them when they promised if he was killed they wouldn't harm his family. Everything that angel ever did was to protect the love of his life and their child. The place where he died had his wings etched into the ground. And then of course they had his ashes at home.

After they ordered, Mary started humming the same song that came on in the car earlier. It was 'since ive been loving you.' Dean watched her with a smile. "Your father would be so proud of you, little girl." He couldn't stop smiling.

"Papa is in the empty chair Daddy. He says he loves us." She looked over.

Dean knew it was just he imagination but he wasn't going to put her down. "I love him too. And I love you, my little princess."

Mary gasped, and got an idea. "Can we have a princess dress up party when we get home? With you and uncle Sammy?"

"Oh honey..."

"Pwease daddy. That's the second thing I wanted for my birthday!"

"Okay." He smiled.

"I wanna be an angel like papa. But a princess too!" She was giddy.

"I'll help you, love."

This kid was the only thing that kept him hanging on. He always wanted his husband back...
