Dean kicked the loose grass beneath his feet, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket as the cold hair brushed against them.
It was almost midnight and as far as Dean knew, he was alone. He shuffled his feet against the soil as he walked, breathing heavily to allow himself to see his breath in the darkness. Pulling out a box of cigarettes he looked around, realising just how alone he was as he wandered across the field.
His face felt momentarily warm as he clicked his lighter, placing the cigarette into his mouth. He continued to walk in silence, the occasional sound of a passing car on the road nearby startling him. He couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching him. This was obviously rubbish. He was completely alone.
The sky was beautiful, the stars so profoundly detailed like a piece of art. He gazed up at the sky as he exhaled smoke, noticing the slight movement of one of the stars.
A shooting star, what are the chances?
It was beautiful. He stood in the middle of the field watching the star plummet across the sky.
'Make a wish.' He laughed to himself talking rather loudly causing him to turn and ensure he was still alone.
Dean didn't really have a lot to wish for. Well, nothing he couldn't think of at that precise moment.
He narrowed his eyes, watching the star as it seemed to get closer and closer. His eyes widened. The star was getting closer. He looked around yet again, longing for someone to see what he was seeing, his arms now waving around as his cigarette hit the floor.
The next few moments were still blurry in Deans memory, not being able to explain what exactly happened. The bright light hit the ground as it shook. Dean fell to the ground, opening his eyes to discover himself knees over his chest. He stood up cautiously looking around.
What the hell just happened?
Glaring into the direction the light had once been, he noticed a trail of, what seemed to be, feathers. Not like any feathers he had ever seen. They were the size of his forearm, scattered across the ground around the large hole across the field.
He walked towards the hole, plucking a feather from the ground as he walked. Inspecting it, waving it I front of his face before dropping it back down onto the floor.
His eyes widened as he walked closer to the hole. There was something moving in there.
'Hello?' He yelled.
Silence.
Dean walked closer, now realising the movement was a person. Was it?
'Oh my god.' He whispered to himself, now standing at the edge of the hole he was able to see something curled up at the bottom. Looking around one more time as if for reassurance, he jumped into the hole.
'Hello?'
Walking closer, he began to make out the details of the creature. A beige material covering it's back. A trench coat?
This made no sense.
'Uhhhhh.' Deans eyes widened as the creature groaned.
'Who... What... Are you?' He mumbled as the creature turned to face him.
It was a man. What? How? What was going on?
The man groaned, wiping the dirt from his forehead as he looked around at the scattered feathers.
'No.' He began, 'No no no no no.'
'Huh?' Dean was so confused, 'Who are you?' He sounded so robotic, unsure whether the man was able to understand him.
'I'm Castiel.' He attempted to stand, grabbing hold of the large cluster of dirt beside him, 'An Angel of the Lord.'
Dean was frozen, this was nonsense.
If you see a bright light fall from the sky onto the field in front of you, you don't walk up to it. What was he doing?
'Who are you?' Castiel groaned, grabbing his hip.
'I'm Dean Winchester.'
'Ah.' He pointed wearily at Dean
'Do you need help? Should I call someone?'
'No.' Castiel replied immediately, 'I'm fine.'
'You don't look fine.' Dean stepped closer, dabbing the sleeve of his jacket against Castiels forehead, 'Let me help you.'
Castiel nodded, allowing Dean to place his arm around him assisting him to walk.
'Wait till Sammy hears about this.' Dean whispered to himself as they climbed out of the hole.
'What?' Castiel turned to Dean, his face overcome with confusion.
'Nothing.'
