74. Suck It Christmas! /This/ Is The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year!
(As requested by @Justanerdygirlx. Danka!)
Dean was abruptly awoken by a certain ex angel early one morning. As in, before noon.
"Cas, what the hell?" He grumbled.
"Dean, where are the eggs?" He asked cheerily.
"Dude, what're you so egg-cited about?" He smirked.
"Do you even realize what today is?"
Dean thought for a moment, then realized. "Oh yeah. Day before Easter."
"Eggs-actly!"
Dean chuckled at the adorable little angel. Getting worked up over a holiday that was stolen from Jesus by a rabbit. "Cas, we don't have any eggs."
Cas looked genuinely disappointed. "Why not?"
"Cause we don't."
"But we need to paint them! And hide them! And wait for that big bunny to bring you chocolate!"
"Wait, what?" Dean suppressed his laughter.
Cas sighed impatiently. "The Easter Bunny, of course."
Dean scoffed. "Oh, yeah. Silly me. Cas, you do realize there's no such th-" But he stopped himself mid sentence. He, for some reason, couldn't bring himself to say that the Easter Bunny wasn't real. He couldn't do that to the poor guy.
"What?" Cas looked down at him with innocent blue eyes.
Dean waved the thought away. "Nah. Nothing. Cas, I, uh, I need to go... do something. With Sam."
"Are you going to buy eggs?"
"Sure, why not?"
He found Sam in the library and briskly approached him. "Alright, Sammy, here's the deal. Cas thinks the Easter Bunny is real, so we're gonna make sure he keeps believing that. At midnight tonight, we're gonna make it look like the Easter Bunny paid a visit. We're gonna set up 'bunny tracks' that lead to a basket full of chocolate; we're gonna paint some eggs and hide them in the bunker; we're basically gonna give Cas the best damn Easter ever. You in?"
Sam was looking at him like he was some kind of mutant. "Uh... okay."
Dean left a note for Cas saying that he and Sam would be out for a while. They set out to give Cas an Easter he'd never forget. They bought a boatload of chocolates, including those Cadbury Eggs, the cream ones and the caramel; Hershey's kisses; Reese's cups; even those little marshmallow Peeps things.
They bought a couple dozen eggs and some of that egg paint stuff, whatever it was. They didn't want Cas to see what they were doing, so they ended up painting the eggs in the Impala. Although Dean hated the idea, it was either that or risking Cas finding out what they were up to.
They soon had all the eggs painted and were just about ready to go back to the bunker, when they realized they almost forgot the more difficult part of their plan; the bunny tracks.
"Sam, how the hell are we supposed to make bunny tracks?" Dean asked.
Sam shrugged. "I dunno. This was your idea, man."
Dean sighed. "What, do we just paint rabbit footprints in the floor and hope he doesn't suspect anything?"
"Technically it would be paw prints."
"I'm gonna slap you, you walking encyclopedia of weirdness."
"That's not weirdness. That's common knowledge."
"Whatever. Shut up. So, black spray paint, paw prints, and we're set?"
Sam nodded slowly. "Yeah, I think so. You love him, don't you?"
Dean looked at him incredulously. "W-you-I-excuse me?" He stammered.
"Why else would you be going to such lengths to make sure Cas believes in the frigging Easter Bunny? I mean, come on!"
"Okay, you have the right to remain silent."
Sam bitchfaced him. "Just admit it, Dean. I've known all along, but now it's really starting to show."
"W-you-I-all along?!"
Sam sighed lightly. "Just shut up and drive."
Dean drove them to the bunker and parked the Impala in the garage. It was then he realized they overlooked a crucial piece of their plan.
"Uh... Sam?"
"Yeah?"
"How are we gonna sneak all of this past Cas?"
They both thought for a moment. "Maybe we can leave it out here? The eggs still need to dry anyway."
"No. Cas has been seriously nosey lately. I wouldn't put it past him to go rooting around in here."
"Well this is our only option, Dean. Unless you wanna spoil the surprise. Maybe we can keep him distracted so he won't go through this stuff."
"Distracted? How?"
They all found themselves watching some serious Easter movies. It was a serious marathon. And Dean was in hell. Again.
At some point, Sam managed to escape to his room, so it was just Dean and Cas. They were in the middle of one called Hop. It was pretty good so far. E.B. and Fred O'Hare had just met David Hasselhoff.
Dean glanced over at Cas and realized he'd fallen asleep. He knew this was his chance to escape and play Easter Bunny for the night, but something kept him from leaving. Cas was just... so adorable.
He looked at his watch. 10:35. He looked back at his angel, who was softly snoring. A small grin threatened to show as he watched his little Cas. His eyelids grew heavier and he soon dozed off with him.
About an hour later, Sam awoke him.
"Dean, c'mon. If we're gonna do this, we've gotta do it now."
Dean groaned and looked around. He didn't even realize he'd fallen asleep. He looked down at Cas, who was still sound asleep.
"Alright. Let's go, then."
They spent an hour spray painting rabbit tracks on the ground leading from where Cas was to the library. They left Cas with a sort of mini-goodie while the real deal was on the table in the library. Sam spray painted Bugs Bunny feet while Dean hid the eggs.
It was around midnight when they finally got done. Dean had taken Cas to his bedroom, and at the foot of the bed, there was a big chocolate bunny. Dean climbed into bed with his little angel, and before he fell asleep, he mumbled, "I hope you appreciate just how much trouble we go to for you."
._.__.~The Next Morning~.__._.
Cas shook Dean awake when he realized what was at the foot of his bed. "Dean! Dean! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!"
Dean groaned. "Cas, go back to sleep."
"But I just can't! Look, Dean!"
Dean slowly remembered the events of the previous night and smiled. "Oh yeah. Easter."
"I told you! I told you! I told you! The Easter Bunny was here, goddammit!" He pipped.
Dean chuckled at his enthusiasm. "What'd he leave you?"
Cas lunged at the chocolate bunny on the bed and showed it to Dean. "His chocolate brethren!"
Dean laughed some more. "Cas, that's-" He stopped short, realizing it was pointless. "Never mind. Did he leave anything else?"
"He left footprints, Dean!"
"I knew it was footprints." Dean mumbled.
"What?" Cas tilted his head to the side.
Dean half smiled. "Nothing. Where do the footprints lead?"
"Come with me, Dean! Come on!" He pulled on his arm.
Dean sighed and sat up. "Alright, alright, fine."
They followed the footprints to the library where there were three baskets and Sam awaiting them. Cas lit up like a Christmas tree.
"OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH!" He beamed.
Dean and Sam laughed. He actually said gosh.
"Happy Easter, man." Dean smiled.
"Which one's mine?" He asked.
"I think it's the blue one. It... matches your eyes."
He looked at Dean with a childlike look. Childlike in a good way, though. "That means the green one's yours!"
They spent the day mostly eating chocolate and looking for eggs. About halfway through their search, Cas thought of something.
"Maybe he his some outside!"
"I doubt it, man." Dean grinned.
"No harm in trying!" He rushed to open the front door, Sam and Dean close behind. When Cas opened the door, they all thought they saw a small rabbit in the distance. A rabbit... with a pink bow?
Cas gasped loudly. "DEAN! SAM! DID YOU SEE THAT?"
Sam and Dean were awestruck. "Um... saw what?" Sam muttered.
"The rabbit! There was a rabbit over there! In a bow!"
"Uh... Cas?" Dean asked.
Cas looked at him. "Yes, Dean?"
Dean looked down at their feet. "What the hell is that?"
They all followed Dean's gaze and saw what he was looking at. There were three little baskets with labels. "Sam", "Dean", and "Castiel".
"More baskets! I love it!" Cas shouted.
"What's in them?" Sam asked.
"Let's look and see." Dean said, bending down to pick his up.
They all took their baskets to the library and looked inside. There were Easter themed snow globes in them. But there was something interesting about these snow globes.
Cas shook his up and saw a clear image. He could see Dean's love for him. He saw the way he felt about him, and it made him happier than he'd ever been before.
As for Dean, he saw what he needed to see the most. Cas's feelings for him. He saw the way the little ex angel loved him, and it was enough to make his eyes prick.
"Cas...?"
"Dean...?"
They looked into each other's eyes. They both spoke, "I love you, too."
(A/N: And Sammy saw Gabriel XD I was gonna bring that up in the real part and not the authors note, but this was such a good ending. Definitely makes up for the previous AAAAAANGST FOR WHICH I AM SORRYYYY! Okay then.
Peace Off, My Mini Marshminions!)
