First Person's POV

------------------------------

Cold. That was the only word I could find to describe my current state of being as I adjusted to not having my twin behind the controls of my mind anymore. On one hand I was excited for this chapter of my life which would consist of me making my own decisions as opposed to my twin making every decision for me, but on the other, I found my entire being to be incomplete without her being beside me in a way- hence why I described my current state as being cold.

Besides that, I was standing in the middle of the street, flashing street lights being one of my only sense of light in the dark of the night. The only other light that would guide my way was the signs of various stores, still alight even though everyone had already gone home and was within the comfort of their own beds due to the strenuous curfew being enforced.

The sound of feet walking toward me made my senses awaken in the late hour, sending myself hurtling toward a wall in order to hide my mocha colored skin from the flashes of light searching down the street. Voices were making slight noise as they passed the alleyway I was hiding within.

My hand came over my mouth tightly, willing myself to not make a single sound- even to breath. I squeezed my eyes shut, not wanting to see any of the people who would surely uncover me and take me toward the government officials for trial and sentencing for trespassing after curfew. Thankfully, I wasn't detected, and after waiting a few moments, I was free to continue my trek toward the familiar treeline that was miles and miles away.

My body shook from the frigid temperatures and the my extreme anxiety of each second passing. Nothing seemed to shake the feeling within me that someone would catch my curly brunette hair trailing in the wind. I gazed up to take in my surrounding again, pulling the hood of my jumper over my brown locks in hopes that the black material would conceal my being. That was when I saw my saving grace. A mercedes.

Although the society we lived in didn't encourage the use of vehicles in any sense, the wealthy still managed to afford their astronomical prices and drove them religiously toward their destinations, whether it were work or the store. Myself, however, didn't have enough money to afford the luxury of entering into a program in order to further my education, much less a car. But if I was already breaking the law for being out passed curfew, why not steal a car too?

My legs ran toward the expensive vehicle, stopping once I reached it and wondering how I would get in when it was locked. Words from my twin echoed in my head as I remembered her coaching me through these type of situations. I took a deep breath, looking up to the sky as I adjusted my duffle bag on my shoulder so that I could use it in action I was about to perform.

"Break the glass, unlock, turn off alarm, and hotwire," I repeated to myself outloud, shaking my head at the thought of having to hotwire the car within a minute in order to prevent the troops from arresting me. "Oh but it isn't hard." I rolled my eyes at my twin's words that still resonated in my mind from two nights previous.

Another deep sigh released from my mouth as I tried to calm myself before placing the duffle bag in front of where I was about to break the glass. After a few minutes of attempting to break the glass in vain, I finally gave up, opening the duffle bag and situating all of my items before finding and wrapping a piece of my thicker clothing around my slightly shaking hand. I had to take a deep breath at the thought of my hand breaking the glass, still not believing I could do that.

"You can do this," I whispered to myself, looking between the car and my hand with wide blue eyes. Suddenly, my hand came in contact with the glass, the window shattering as the alarm began to sound. I worked quickly, throwing my duffle bag into the passenger seat as I unlocked my door and slid into the seat.

My hand came down to turn off the alarm as I closed the car door quickly and began to rip the under boarding of the car off, revealing the cords needed to hotwire it. I went over the steps in my mind, the sound of footsteps in the distance growing closer as I attached wires to each other in hopes something would be correct.

"Please freaking work," I pleaded as I attached the last cord with a tear threatening to spill out of my eye in fear that I would be caught. Within seconds, I saw the dash light up with colors and fill my heart with hope, but that was until I heard a voice in the distance yell.

"Put your hands up!" the brash voice spoke suddenly. I felt sweat all over my back, nerves setting in, and my ears heard only static from the air as though they stopped working.

I had two choices: turn myself in and hope for the best or put the car in gear and drive away really fucking fast. And I chose the latter.

My mind worked quickly as I moved my foot away from the seat, holding the brake down as I switched the car in gear, looking behind me once to see that the guard was right behind my car with his gun aimed and ready. Thinking the car was in drive, I pressed on the gas fully, but ended up shooting backwards, straight into the guard standing behind me.

My ears picked up on the sound of bones cracking and flesh ripping. I cringed at the sound at first, but shrugged my shoulders after a moment, liking the feeling of being in control of someone else's ability to live. Mind racing, I switched the gear down to drive before slamming on the accelerator and driving off into the distance at such a great speed that no one would be able to catch me.

Ragged breaths left my mouth as I turned down to get on the highway, realizing that I was suddenly a fugitive and needed to clean up the look of things in order to prevent being caught. Despite my body begging for sleep, I drove through the night, only stopping in the middle of the woods as daybreak took over. Sleeping for the whole day seemed to be the only option as my body begged for sleep any time I awoke until it was six o'clock at night.

Finally, I decided that it was the best decision for me to gain more clothing and an actual car that didn't appear to be vandalized. My hands came over to my bag, finding the handle of my gun and holding it close to me in hopes that I would be confident enough to use it if need be. As I got out of the car, I felt that same cold feeling take over my body, realizing that this was the first time I had driven a car without my twin's interaction the entire.

"Get fucking used to it," I whispered to myself, gritting my teeth as my weak legs took me toward the route to the close city. My entire body felt dead as I approached the stores of the small urban town. People rustled by quickly as mothers tried to force their children to hurry with their selections so that they could cook dinner sooner.

My feet carried me into the closest convenience store, my hands grabbing multiple necessities to me, most including food and hygienic items since I wasn't sure if the place where I was headed even had anything that normal civilization had. Checking out was the most intimidating though due to the system of payment depending on your microchip; however, with my twin signing off of the system forever, I wasn't sure if it would still be activatable.

When I reached the counter, I placed all of my items on the belt, the woman scanning them tediously as I stood there in a vain attempt to appear calm.

"First time on your own?" the elderly woman asked as I shook when placing my arm under the scanning machine. I looked at her with scared eyes before her statement clicked within my mind and I nodded my head furiously. "Don't worry, your twin knows what to do," she said with a wink, signalling that she and her twin had some input on that statement.

I smiled kindly before gripping my items closely and placing them into a shopping cart before walking out of the store with my duffle bag still placed over my shoulder. However, the smile fell from my face as I noticed a fellow Bot smacking her child. While I knew that some parents chose to use those types of punishments, my parents included, I found her mannerisms to be far too aggressive for a parent who was merely advising a child.

Upon approaching the two, I heard the mother's slurred speech and began to feel my anger rise quickly. That was when I decided that her car, a sleek Mercedes convertible, would be the car I drove into my final destination.

When I approached the car, I found my whole body shaking, but this time it wasn't out of fear for and officer, it was anger at a mother beating her child beyond reasonable means. I opened my mouth to interrupt her, but she shoved her purse into my face, thinking I was some sort of attendant to her and asked for me to tend to her items by placing them in her car.

I sneered my nose, but did as she said, being observant as I placed bag after bag into her trunk, even dumping mine into the red car's back end. The entire time, she was far too engrossed in her son's punishment that she never even got into the vehicle, leaving it open to me as I pulled the keys out of her purse and walked around the car the opposite way, making sure to keep my weapon of defense on my person.

"What do you think you are doing?!" the fair skinned woman yelled at me as I climbed into the car. My body stiffened as I turned toward her, pulling my gun out and caulking it before pressing it to her gut and hearing the click of the gun register to my brain before the screams around me did.

I blinked, not understanding how this had happened. How had I, in a matter of seconds, caused such a ruckus when I had promised myself not to cause a scene. The rich woman held onto my shoulder, trying to use me to stand up but I shoved her into the car beside us and rushed into her convertible.

"That's what you get for beating a child," I muttered under my breath before throwing the car into reverse and pushing my gun into the seat next to me. Unlike all of the other times I had backed out of a parking spot, I quickly swung the body of the Mercedes out of the parking spot and took off down the aisle of the parking lot and whipping out onto the bi way, which led toward the major interstate I had been on the previous day.

The system of sleeping during the day and driving at dangerous speeds at night continued until I reached the town my twin had informed me would lead me toward my safe haven. I shook my head as I looked at the treeline before me, trying to gain the knowledge I had been lacking previously. Never before had my twin told me what this place was other than a safe haven.

Never before had I been on my own without my twin guiding me and making decisions on every little thing. As I drove into the treeline, being cautious of cars following me despite the obvious lack of cars on the road at midnight, I made my way into the trees.

This was it. This was the moment my life changed forever. This was the moment that I would finally find that freedom that my twin always described as a riveting form of freedom. This was my final chance to run for the hills, but I chose not to.

This was my entrance into the Raider's colony.

Author's Note:

Here is an update late because I'm awful at getting them up on time....There will be another posted tomorrow and I'll try to do better guys. I haven't been able to read or write while school is happening but on the bright side I have all A's, my five AP courses are going well, and I am set to receive 23 credit hours by the end of the year! And three more if I take the Physics AP Exam. Moral of the story, if you take AP, don't try to write a book because it won't happen.
