Desperado
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate.
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you.
You better let somebody love you.
Let somebody love you before it's too late.

━━━ DESPERADO, Linda Ronstadt
In the heart of Tornado Alley, where the skies can change from calm to chaos in a heartbeat, lives a woman whose spirit is as fierce as the storms she chases. Her name is whispered with awe and respect, for there's a reason the strongest storms are named after women. Brisa Santiago is a force of nature, known to many as a former top storm chaser who now leads a quieter, simpler life on a ranch in the great plains of Oklahoma.
To those who truly know her, Brisa is a jack of all trades, a true spitfire who's all brains, beauty, and courage. She's Javi's cool older sister, the one who always had his back and stood up for him, no matter what. From the vibrant city of Miami, where they grew up, to Muskogee State University, where they went to college, Brisa was always the overachiever between the two of them. In a Puerto Rican household, the eldest daughter can't be anything less than perfect. Greatness was expected from her, yet she was constantly underestimated by the people around her.
Determined to prove herself, Brisa worked tirelessly for her PhD degree in Meteorology, graduated with honors, and earned every single academic cord she could. At college, she finally received the recognition she deserved, gaining a reputation as the "Storm Whisperer" for her uncanny ability to predict a storm's path and behavior with remarkable accuracy. Brisa became a pro in her field, a real powerhouse who faces danger head-on with a fearless attitude, the kind that commands attention and respect, and ultimately formed her own crew of storm chasers.
Brisa doesn't like to think about that time in her life, not after the devastating storm that took the lives of her teammates. Haunted by loss and driven by guilt, she took a step back from her career, finding peace in the new life she made for herself amongst the animals she cared for on the ranch, a far cry from the violent beauty of twisters she once pursued. And for a while, it was enough.
But when fate comes knocking at her door in the form of her brother Javi, freshly returned from the army, he brings with him an offer she just can't refuse. He invites her to join him at his new job with Storm Par, a mobile tornado radar company, offering her a chance to chase storms once more. No matter how much she tries to deny it or run from her past, the call to the storm always seems to pull her back in—she was always made for this life.
Brisa is quick to get back into the groove of it all with her brother and this new crew, it was as easy as riding a bike jumping into the storm-chasing world again. A part of her is excited about it all, especially getting to work with so many new people in her field. Brisa just doesn't expect one of those people to be a ghost from her past. More specifically, the very man who broke her heart in college and left her like dust in the wind—Tyler Owens. He's now a popular YouTube star known as the "Tornado Wrangler," his fame built on the same audacious spirit that once captivated her all those years ago. He's just as bold, reckless, and arrogant as the last time she saw him, and it makes her want to sock him right in the jaw, wipe that cocky smirk off his face, and knock his cowboy hat off into the dirt. But Brisa knows that wouldn't be the greatest idea. Instead, she tries to maintain a semblance of professional distance. Unfortunately for her, it's a futile attempt, and in the end, it doesn't last very long because old flames burn bright and never truly die out.
One stormy night leads to another, and before Brisa knows it, she's entangled with Tyler once more. The first time it happens, she tells herself it was a mistake, one fueled by tequila, cigarettes, and booze. The second time it happens, she convinces herself it's nothing more than a physical connection—it doesn't mean anything other than blowing off some steam and scratching an itch she can't reach herself. Every time it happens after that, she simply tells herself it's a fling with an ex—familiar and comfortable, far easier than hooking up with a random stranger she doesn't even know. And again, she continues to tell herself, it doesn't mean anything. But deep down, Brisa knows she's playing a dangerous game, straying too close to the eye of the storm. Because if there's one thing certain when it comes to Tyler Owens, it's this: the man is a goddamn F5 tornado, and he always leaves everything in ruins.
It comes to a point where Brisa finds herself at a crossroads, torn between the safety of her guarded heart and the irresistible pull toward her old lover. Knowing that what they do for a living is dangerous and unpredictable, any storm they chase could be their last. Maybe it's time for Brisa to let someone love her and for her to love someone before it's too late. And maybe, just maybe, that person might be Tyler Owens.
