Chapter 1: I'll Find Him
Keith's POV:
"It's been three months since Lonce went missing, we need to accept that we'll probably not be able to find him," Allura stated in a loud whisper to Shiro. I was sitting in Lance's bedroom, looking for answers yet again. Allura and Shiro were walking down the hallway, probably trying to check on me.
"There's no way Kei-," Shiro started. I silently walked over to Lance's closet and took out his jacket.
"I know! I know, we all miss him. I know Keith feels he's responsible but we all need a break. I can't remember the last time I've had a decent amount of sleep," Allura interrupted, Shiro, they noticed the door to the red paladin's bedroom was open. They peered inside to see me tearing up, this wouldn't be the first time they've seen me cry this month and it most likely won't be the last.
"Keith! How much did you-," Shiro started to speak opon seeing me standing in the middle of this cold, lonely room.
"You can't possibly understand how I feel Allura, go ahead. Leave, run away from this issue, but just because you're willing to forget about Lance doesn't mean I am," I growled, venom was laced in my tone. It obviously hurt them to hear my words. I stormed to my room with Lance's jacket in my arms.
Shiro was calling for me, but it just seemed like white noise. There was only one person on my mind, there was only a single voice I wanted to hear. The one voice I wanted to hear was the one that belonged to Lance McClain.
The next morning I did my routine of waking up, getting dressed, eating breakfast, and searching for answers to what might have happened to Lance after he was taken.
By the cheers of excitement the I guessed that they were approaching Earth. I shared none of that excitement, all I felt was dread because there is a wonderful homesick person in the clutches of evil. I knew I would have to tell the McClains about their beloved family member, but I wasn't ready. I could never be ready.
Wanting to go somewhere quiet, I made my way to the Red Lion's hangar.
"Hey, Red. I know it's been a while since we've last spoken. You probably don't even care that I'm here right now," I greeted. Starting a conversation with this cat was never easy, even when I was her paladin. Luckily, she felt talkitive today and purred in response to my greeting. There was a soberness in her voice. Hello, Keith. What has caused you to seek my attention?
"... I-It's probably t-too much to ask, but can you g-give me a sign that L-Lance is alive," I asked, tears were welling in my eyes. My voice was giving out as a I spoke. I looked at the robotic cat, her eyes started glowing. A tear rolled down my cheek, right on my scar. Red got to her feet and started pacing the hangar.
My previous lion growled nervously, she doesn't know where he is. Her voice got weaker, it was cracking a bit as she communicated with me. I-I can't find him. If I could I would! All I can do is tell he's alive... I'm sor-. I smile at her.
"Thank you for trying, Red," I thanked, her pacing started to slow down. I heard a door whoosh open, it was Pidge
"Keith! What's going on? The entire castle is quaking," Pidge asked in an annoyed fashion, she was adjusting her glasses and just about dropped them when she saw Red pacing the floor. I wiped my tears and pivoted to face her.
"What is the eta for Earth," I dodged her question by asking my own.
"Five minutes, it would be ideal if you could get Red to stop pacing," Pidge answered, she was obviously analyzing Red the entire time she was speaking. I turned my head to the beautiful warship behind me.
She immediately started to settle down, though I doubt it was because of me. Red sat down, her eyes dimmed down to a light gray.
I guess I should be with everybody, except for Lance, when we touch down. I made my way to the castle enterance, I was thinking of what to do when we land at the Garrison. Visiting my Dad's grave crossed my mind, but that seemed like a depressing way to spend my time on Earth. Well, Shrio might go see Adam... Shit, Adam is going to be so pissed at me! At us!
"Oh. Hey, Keith! I'm glad you joined us," Hunk smiled. Such a nice guy, I can see why he's Lance's best friend. I gave a half smile in return, I crossed my arms as the castle landed. The door swished open, I almost immediately saw Adam. He was apart of the first line of defense.
Adam adjusted his glasses, to get a better look at us. He was probably confused by Shiro's appearance, why wouldn't he be?
Somebody started speaking into a megaphone. "Send your leader! Unarmed!"
I was waiting for Lance to push me forward and giggle while doing so, but instead all I got was calm stares. I took a few awkward steps forward with my hands in the air, my armor could probably handle being shot at by these weapons but I'd rather not risk it. As soon as I got close enough to the point where Adam could recognize me, he left his position and raced to me.
I was hugged agressively by my Brother's ex-fiancee. I hugged Adam back, he started crying into my shoulder. Once I felt his grip on my loosen, I knew I was going to get yelled at.
"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! I WAS WORRIED SICK! I THOUGHT YOU DIED OR WORSE! FIRST TAKASHI, WHY WOULD YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT!? YOU DIDN'T EVEN CONTACT ME ONCE AFTER YOU GOT KICKED FROM THE GARRISON! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! WHERE DID YOU GET THAT SCAR?! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN FOR THREE YEARS," Adam screamed his questions and worries in my face. Kosmo teleported to my side ready to protect me, only to be scared by the gay man that helped raise me.
"Five years, I've actually been gone for five years. I was living on the back of a space whale for two years in a time vortex," I answered one of his many questions nervously.
"WHERE DID YOU GET THE SCAR?! AND WHAT'S THAT," Adam asked loudly while gesturing to Kosmo. My wolf disappeared soon after that, he probably went to Lance's room. It's a favorite spot of his.
"I got the scar fighting an evil clone of Shiro and that was my teleporting space wolf, Kosmo," I answered calmly, this wasn't the strangest thing I've ever said.
"Wait... What," Adam asked in a lot quieter tone.
"Umm... The guy with a missing arm, a scar, and white hair is Shiro," I answered directing the attention to my Brother. Adam was glaring daggers at Shiro. Poor soul, I bet he's wishing he was still dead.
"Excuse me a moment, Keith," Adam said sweetly. He lowered his head so that the sun wouldn't reflect against his glasses, he was like a pissed off anime character. His eyes fucking disappeared, holy shit. He broke into a sprint, charging at Shiro. All I could do is turn and watch and Adam tackled Shiro, by this point Allura and Coran made it down. I turned and kept walking until I was instructed to stop, via megaphone.
"How do you know Adam," Iverson demanded an answer.
"Takashi Shirogane was engaged to Adam, Shiro acted as a Brother figure to me," I answered, placing my arms against my back.
"What is your purpose of being here," Iverson asked.
"We fought in an intergalactic war and are ready for a break. We have done all we could for now," I answered.
"Who are the people you have been traveling with," Iverson asked.
"Takashi Shirogane, Katie Holt, Hunk Garret, Princess Allura of Altea, Coran Hieronymus Wimbleton Smythe, and... L-Lan..." My voice started collapsing, I could feel the tears threatening to escape my eyes.
"Spit it out," Iverson demanded.
"Lance Charles McClain," I yelled, tears started streaming from my eyes. My sadness soon turned to rage, as I yelled:
"YOU SURE AS HELL BETTER REMEMBER HIM! YOU'RE THE ONE THAT TOLD HIM HE'S ONLY IN FIGHTER CLASS BECAUSE I FLUNKED OUT! HE'S BEEN SAVING YOUR ASS DAY AFTER DAY OUT OF THE KINDNESS IN HIS HEART! NOW HE'S MISSING AND IT'S BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU!"
Some people started to advance towards me, I growled. My arms left their place on my back to my face as I wiped the tears away. Iverson raised a hand telling them to stay put.
"Contact the Holts and Garrets, tell them their children are back... You should also call the McClains, they need to know their son is lost in space," Iverson demanded softly. Iverson shooed the reinforcements away.
"There is a McClain here, her name is Veronica. She's Lance's older sister," I stated with the calmest voice I could manage. Iverson looked me in the eyes only to convey a shocked expression, he quickly regained his composure.
"Yes, I'll contact her right away," Iverson replied. I made my way back to the castle, Adam was brutally swearing out Shiro and occasionally punching him in the shoulder. I half smiled at the two, this was the reunion I expected from them.
"Pidge, Hunk your families are being contacted. If you need me for any reason, I'll be in my room," I stated. I made my way to my room without much effort. Looking over to my bed I sighed contently when I saw Lance's jacket. I made my way to my closet, it was filled with oversized t-shirts and sweatpants from when Lance and I would go shopping together. I changed into a soft blue t-shirt and a pair of gray sweatpants.
At this point my bed was looking pretty comfortable. So, I headed over to it and laid down. I pulled the jacket close to my body, I closed my eyes.
~~~Flashback~~~
"Keith! Keith! Look what I found at the Earth store! It's an iPod," Lance yelled excitedly. His ridiculous smile he is known for was plastered on his adorable face.
"You wasted your money on a device that is so outdated, I can listen to The Beatles? Does it even work," I asked skeptically, I had my right arm resting on the top on the couch. The other was holding a book from the Earth store.
"Keith, iPods aren't THAT old! Plus it totally works, I even got a charger to go with it," Lance remarked with a smirk. Oh, I love this man.
"Fine. What songs does it play," I asked, Lance walked over to my excitedly, there was a little bounce in the way he walked. Adorable~ He made his way down the steps and slid into the empty spot on my right side. Almost instinctually I put my arm on his shoulder. Lance leaned into my chest which lead me to put my book down.
"Okay, we have some Rihanna, Adele, Panic!At the Disco, Set it off, Justin Bieber... Eww. Shakira, One Direction, Scissor Sisters, Bo Burnham, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Daddy Yankee, and a crap ton of other stuff. This sounds like an emo theater kid, huh," Lance answered while skimming through the music.
"I don't know half of the artists listed," I stated indifferently.
"Keith, honey. Are you telling me you haven't at least heard of Gasolina," Lance asked in a disspointed/meme god tone. He put his hands together and brought them up to his face, it was a lot like somebody praying.
"I have no idea what Gasolina is," I answered my right hand man. He shot his eyes open hand quickly moved his hands, still together, downwards.
"Boi! Thank god it's on here then," Lance sighed dramatically. Knowing Lance, once he started listening to that song it would be playing until I had all of the lyrics and timings memorized. It seemed logical to play a song I know I like.
"Well, I can listen to that later, let's see if we can actually find a song I know," I suggested. Lance sighed again.
"Fine, but only if you try to sing along," Lance bargained. I rolled my eyes playfully, not that he could see.
"Sure, Sharpshooter," I agreed to the terms, with a slight blush. Lance squirmed at the nickname, I rested my head on the back of his neck. The action just barely gave me the ability to look over his shoulder to see the playlist, he started scrolling slowly.
There were a few songs I actually reconized, one of which I would never sing for Lance. We eventually came across one that I'd admit to knowning.
"Lance, I just found one I know," I stated calmly.
"It took you forever, jeez! You really need to listen to more music," Lance claimed in an exasperated tone.
"Pfth! As if you know the song 'Wine Red'," I remarked sharply. Lance huffed but said nothing in return.
"Which song is it," Lance asked calmly.
"Stolen Dance, by Milky Chance," I answered quietly.
"Isn't that song mostly instrumental," Lance questioned with a thoughtful frown obvious in his voice.
"I hope so," I replied neutrally.
"Just for that, you have to dance with me," Lance stated, he stood up leaving my right side cold. He grabbed my hand and hoisted me up.
"You were gonna make me dance regardless," I claimed slyly.
"No, but seeing as I know the song too, I thought it would be nice," Lance denied supplying his own reasoning. The red paladin pressed the song, a drum beat filled the room.
He guided one of my hands to his waist, the other to just holding his hand. I looked down slightly, his beautiful ocean blue eyes were looking into mine. The chorus began.
"I want you by my side. So that I never feel alone again. They've always been so kind, but now they've brought you away from here. I hope they didn't get your mind, your heart is too strong anyway. We need to fetch back the time they have stolen from us," I sang softly into Lance's ear. We were swaying in sync at this point. The Cuban boy smirked up at me and escaped my arms. He pointed directly at me.
"And I want you! We can bring it on the floor! You've never danced like this before! We don't talk about it. Dancin' on do the boogie all night long. Stoned in paradise, shouldn't talk about it," Lance sang loudly keeping eye contact with me the entire time. My face flushed, heat started collecting in my cheeks.
"And I want you! We can bring it on the floor! You've never danced like this before! We don't talk about it. Dancin' on do the boogie all night long. Stoned in paradise, shouldn't talk about it. Shouldn't talk about it," I sang in return. I opened my arms to Lance, his face turned just as red as mine. He ran into my arms and we spun around due to the amount of energy he came at me with. We almost fell over, but he regained balance with a dip position. Lance started to laugh, is was truely angelic. I pulled him back to his feet, we were so close together that we were practically kissing. Blue eyed boy slid away from me nervously.
"Coldest winter for me. No sun is shining anymore. The only thing I feel is pain, caused by absence of you," I was the first out of the two of us to catch on the next verse. Once that was sang Lance put a finger to my lips, effectively shutting me up.
"Suspense is controlling my mind. I cannot find the way out of here, I want you by my side. So that I never feel alone again," Lance sang these words, my face softened into the something empathic. He lowered his finger away from my lips, quickly I grabbed his hand and kissed his palm.
"And I want you! We can bring it on the floor! You've never danced like this before! We don't talk about it. Dancin' on do the boogie all night long. Stoned in paradise, shouldn't talk about it," I sang to him, he somehow turned even more red and pulled his hand to his chest. I realized what I did an felt guilty.
And I want you-
"Lance, I am so sorry! I should have asked for consent," I apologized hurriedly. Lance kissed my cheek quickly.
"There, now we feel equally like crappy people," Lance smiled. I smiled back, he started singing again.
"Dancin' on do the boogie all night long. Stoned in paradise, shouldn't tall about it. Shouldn't talk about it." We danced together in an almost awkward fashion, I laughed a bit. Lance was really enjoying this, I'm glad I was too.
"And I want you! We can bring it on the floor! You've never danced like this before! We don't talk about it. Dancin' on do the boogie all night long. Stoned in paradise, shouldn't talk about it," We sang together loudly, at this point it wasn't really singing, just yelling words in tune. Lance wasn't blushing anymore, he was enjoying himself.
"And I want you! We can bring it on the floor! You've never danced like this before! We don't talk about it. Dancin' on do the boogie all night long. Stoned in paradise, shouldn't talk about it," This time it was just Lance, we spun around once again. We went back to swaying in unison until the song was close to reaching it's end. Then I trapped him in a hug and fell backwards onto the couch with Lance on top of me.
"Can I kiss you," I asked straightforwardly.
"Of course," Lance answered. I leaned my face upwards to meet with Lance's. This was a perfect moment, I'd remember forever.
~~~Flashback End~~~
I hiccuped and cried, my arm was covering my eyes. I rolled onto my side and curled into a ball the best I could. My eyes were crammed shut, the only sound I could hear was my agony echoing throughout my room.
A/n: Well, this is a new story. I wanted to try something new, so instead of comedies and romances that I'm not proud of. I decided to write something darker. I'm really enjoying this story, so be sure to comment or vote if you're enjoying it too!
