epilogue
Sarah, a spirited five-year-old girl, was found perched on a tree in the yard, her little feet perched precariously on a thin branch. Alarm filled Serena's voice as she urgently shouted, "No!! Sarah! Get down from there this instant!"
Paul walked over and kissed his wife on the cheek, his stubble tickling her skin. "It's fine, babe," he reassured her. "She does it all the time."
"You spoil her too much, Paul" Serena sighed, rolling her eyes affectionately.
Paul retorted, "Well, what about William? You let him do whatever he wants."
Serena replied defensively, "He's just phased recently, and he's unfortunately inherited your temper, so it's best to tread cautiously."
Paul smirked, "Yeah, but even before that..."
Serena sighed, "Alright, fine. Just go and make sure she doesn't injure herself."
Paul nodded, kissing his wife before walking over to their daughter, skillfully climbing the tree.
Serena smiled fondly as she watched Paul ascend, her attention then shifting to the house phone ringing inside their home.
"Lahote residence," Serena answered the house phone.
"Serena, please help!!" Juliet, Embry's imprint and now wife, pleaded, prompting Serena to laugh and ask, "Oh, goodness. What did Will do?"
Juliet sighed, "Well, it's more like Embry. He caught Will and Amelia kissing, and now he's on a rampage, chasing your son around."
Serena couldn't help but chuckle at the situation, finding humor in the chaos it had caused.
"Oh, yeah, that's definitely something Embry would do," Serena agreed. "He'll calm down eventually since Will imprinted on Amelia, after all."
Juliet chimed in with a laugh, "Oh, goodness, I bet when Sarah gets older and if one of the boys imprints on her, Paul's reaction would be quite a sight to behold."
Serena chuckled, imagining the potential scene that would unfold when that time came.
"Oh, I guarantee she'll definitely be imprinted on, maybe by Seth and Maya's son, Harry," Juliet teased.
"Not in a million years," Paul interjected as he entered the house carrying Sarah in his arms.
Serena ended the call with Juliet, who chuckled and wished good luck. Turning to Paul who was holding Sarah, Serena crossed her arms. "It's going to happen, I know it."
Paul rolled his eyes, "Oh, please. That's highly unlikely."
He placed Sarah down, and she scampered off, as he turned his gaze back at his wife, narrowing his eyes, "So, no, it won't," he protested, shaking his head.
Serena stepped closer to him, her confidence unwavering. "Yes, it will," she stated firmly.
With Serena now standing very close to him, Paul looked down at her, responding to her wide smile with an eye roll.
"Why are you so determined to already give away our daughter?" Paul questioned.
"I'm not, I'm just stating facts," Serena retorted. "After all, I was right about William and Amelia."
Paul attempted to respond once more, but he was abruptly silenced as Serena leaned up and kissed him. He melted into the kiss, returning it wholeheartedly as he wrapped his arms around her, their embrace growing more fervent by the second.
The kiss intensified, their bodies pressing closer together as the passion between them flared. Paul's hands gripped Serena's waist, pulling her closer, as if trying to erase any remaining distance between them. He could feel the heat of her body, the rapid beat of her heart, the delicious curves he had never gotten tired of exploring.
"Fine," Paul relented with a sigh, pulling out of the kiss, as Serena chuckled at his surrender.
"I love you," she declared, her voice filled with tenderness.
"I love you too," Paul replied, his lips finding hers once more, resuming their passionate kiss.
Sarah entered the room, giggling playfully and declared, "I love you both!"
Both of her parents bent down as she rushed into their arms, eliciting smiles from them. "We love you too, Sarah," they replied tenderly.
Suddenly, William appeared in the doorway, having entered the Lahote household.
"Don't worry, Will, we love you too," Sarah chimed in, dashing over to her older brother with youthful exuberance. The parents exchanged warm smiles as William lifted her into his arms.
Paul encircled Serena's waist with his arm, gazing at their children with pride. "We did good," he stated blissfully.
Serena agreed wholeheartedly, adding, "We did."
Paul pulled Serena closer to him, savoring the moment of contentment. His gaze shifted back to their children, who were now playing together innocently. He couldn't help but marvel at the family they had built.
"We really did," Paul reiterated, a sense of satisfaction washing over him.
Serena leaned into his embrace, her head resting against his shoulder. "We've come a long way, haven't we?" she mused softly.
Paul tightened his arm around her, feeling grateful for the journey they had been on. From the first sparks of attraction in La Push to their tumultuous beginnings, they had endured and grown together.
"Yes, we have," Paul affirmed, his voice filled with tenderness. He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, drawing her even closer.
Serena closed her eyes, reveling in the closeness they shared. "It hasn't always been easy," she murmured, her voice laced with a hint of reflection.
Paul chuckled softly at her statement, recalling the ups and downs they had faced. "No, it hasn't," he agreed, a hint of humor in his voice. "But it's made us stronger."
He cupped her face gently, his thumb caressing her cheek. "I wouldn't trade any of it, you know. Every argument, every challenge...it's all led us here."
A soft smile tugged at the corners of Serena's lips as she gazed up at him. There was a certain wisdom in his words, a truth that resonated deeply within her.
"I feel the same way," she confessed, leaning into his touch. "We've grown together, learned from each other...and now we have these two."
She gestured towards Sarah and William, still playing together cheerfully in the background.
Paul's eyes softened as he followed her gaze to their children, his heart swelling with fatherly affection. "They're everything to us," he said quietly, a mix of pride and tenderness coloring his words.
He brushed a strand of hair away from her face, the gesture both tender and protective. "We've built a family, sweetheart. A life that's both beautiful and messy."
Serena's eyes glimmered with agreement. "Beautiful and messy," she echoed, savoring the irony of it all. "Just like us."
She reached up, her hand resting gently on his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heart beneath it. "I never imagined we'd end up here, you know," she mused, her voice laced with a touch of wonder.
Paul chuckled softly, his head slightly bowing to bring his face closer to hers. "Neither did I," he admitted, a hint of disbelief in his voice.
He paused, his expression turning serious as he met her gaze. "But I'm so damn grateful we did."
Serena's breath hitched as he spoke, the sincerity in his tone washing over her. "Me too," she whispered, her voice catching slightly.
She looked at him, her heart filled with a myriad of emotions - love, gratitude, and a deep sense of belonging. "I can't imagine my life without you, Paul," she confessed, her voice filled with honesty.
The intensity of her words struck a chord within him. He cradled her face tenderly, his touch gentle yet possessive. "And I can't imagine mine without you," he replied, his voice gruff with emotion.
He drew her closer, his arms wrapping snugly around her waist. "You're the most important thing in my world, Serena. You and our children."
Serena melted into his embrace, her body instinctively molding against his. The world around them seemed to fade away as they stood there, wrapped up in each other.
