Chapter 6

He swore that book was just laying somewhere. Alec rummaged through his sister's room when she was not there. Jane was in the music chamber practicing, and he had his suspicions that she was the one who dared to mess with his stuff.

She was the only one who can do that.

He was skimming through her desk drawers when he had found pieces of scrap parchment. Alec placed it on the desk and recognized Jane's elegant handwriting.

Latibule

His red eyes that people fear

His hair that was as black as night

He was my solace, my hiding place

A place where my safety and comfort lies.

Alec shoved it aside and rummaged through Jane's desk. He had found multiple pieces of scrap parchment with her unmistakable handwriting. His sister was falling for a monster, and he could not do anything about that. Jane was falling blindly in love with their creator.

To my anam cara,

You had once saved me from the bright lights of the fire. It is with your soothing touch of cool ice that healed me of my sorrows. I would be always loyal to you for you are the only person whom I live for.

"What are you doing?" Jane asks the moment she entered her chambers. Her gaze drifted to the paper Alec was holding and her brother did not bother to hide the said item.

"Who gave you the right to rummage through my stuff? I would prefer to keep my things private, brother," Jane said with venom in her tone.

Alec scoffs at her. He was not angry at his twin sister, he was angry that she had fallen for such a vile creature like their master. He was more aggravated for the fact that he did not know if such said feelings shall be reciprocated by Aro.

Or Jane will end up getting hurt in the end. Alec did not fight through hell to just watch his sister's heart get shattered by the man she had fallen for. The male witch twin knew it himself that it was only their supposed power that Aro Volturi had wanted from them.

"Are you really that daft, sister?" he glances at her with disgust. "Have you not realized the only thing they wanted from us is to be their weapons? He does not love you, Jane." Alec just scoffs at her and inhaled sharply.

"It does not matter," she looks at him with vulnerable eyes. Alec looked away for he thought it was just her way of manipulating him. He never expected a tearless sob from her.

"I certainly know he could not love me back." Jane sniffles. "But this is the only place where I felt I belong. The Volturi gave me the chance to live, they gave us that Alec. Everything you read is true, I had fallen for our Master."

Alec faced his sister. There was an unmistakable feeling of dread in his system. He just could not understand his sister anymore. The lady in front of him was hardly his sister.

It was a different person in the body of his sister.

"They considered disposing us," Alec chuckles darkly. Jane remained unfazed by the revelation. He inhaled sharply when he had eavesdropped into the king's conversation and was by the corner when Caius walked out fuming.

"Master Aro would not allow that," she replies in a monotone voice. "What has gotten into you, Alec?"

"What has gotten into me?" Alec inhales sharply in order not to lose the patience he had left. His stone-cold red eyes stared into his twin's. "I am just looking out for you. I do not want you to-" Jane cut him off.

"I need no one to look out for me!" she had burst out.

Silence engulfed both of them. Alec was staring into the wall and did not utter any word. Jane was leaning on the bed, angst still filled her cold heart.

They stayed like that for a while. It was until Alec stood up and headed for the door. He did not face her, he did not have the will to do so. Jane did not acknowledge his presence as well.

He left without saying a word. A void was filled between the two of them. Alec could just not accept his sister was turning into a lady already.

She had grown up without him.

Jane remained distracted all the way to her etiquette lessons with Didyme. The Volturi wife was talking endlessly yet Jane could not understand a word she was saying. She had taken into staring at the blank wall and it was something she was not accustomed to doing so. The raven-haired Volturi wife took notice of it immediately.

"Is there something wrong, Jane?"

Jane reverted her gaze to the raven-haired vampire and smiled meekly. Her shoulders tensed up and Didyme knew there was something that her student was not telling her. She let out a sigh and sat down next to her charge.

"How about we ditch the lessons for a while and head out for fresh air?"

True to Didyme's words, they had ditched the lessons and spent the cloudy afternoon in the meadows. Her charge remained silent as Jane threw pebbles in the river.

"What's bothering you?" Didyme asks sincerely. "Do you want to talk about it?"

Jane looks at the raven-haired woman in resolution. She had been bothered with so many things and her thoughts were already a mess. It did not help that she and Alec were not on good terms.

He simply came across her at the wrong time. The lower guards always had the habit to pull on her leg. Prior to retreating to her room, the lower guards insisted that she and her twin were immortal children. Jane retreated back to her room in order not to pick a fight.

Alec found her letters when she walked in and things went from there. But the blonde vampire knew it in herself that Alec will not be angry at her for a long time.

Their squabble may take a while to heal but she was certain he will not make everything much longer.

"Am I an immortal child?" she asks quietly.

"What's with the sudden topic?" Didyme asks bewildered.

Jane remained silent and the raven-haired vampire was not buying this silence anymore. Didyme knew something was wrong, but she knew if she forced the answers out from her blonde charge.

She would not be getting any answers from her.

"Can you control your thirst?" Didyme asks. The question was basic but it can be enough to penetrate Jane's aloof nature. It was not meant to be answered either but rather to reach her to the core.

Jane nods.

"You are not a child in my eyes anymore, Jane. We treat you and your brother as adults who are responsible for themselves. You may exhibit childish behavior every now and then, but that is not the basis. You were 15 turning 16 when you were changed, you are not a child in my eyes," the raven-haired Volturi wife wrapped an arm around the blonde vampire's shoulders.

To see her charge like this made Didyme worried. To see Jane like this made her question whether it was still a right decision to stay.

Someone like Jane did not deserve to be in a much darker place like the Volturi. The raven-haired vampire was worried that the day will come that her worst fears will come true.

To see a soulless monster in the eyes of Jane. Eventually, losing the ounce of humanity left in her. To see that was Didyme's absolute horror.

Didyme could not bear to witness that.

Demetri was passing by the music chamber when he saw Jane fumbling with her instrument. Her brows were furrowed in confusion and it seemed unnatural for the newborn vampire to see the blonde not in her absolute control.

He was used to seeing Jane with her nonchalant expression which mimicked her sense of control. However, the Jane he saw was not that person today.

She was struggling with the violin as she hit other notes by mistake. Her bowing technique was rather forced and not like the fluid and graceful bowing that he once saw.

"You would not be hitting other notes if you are not that timid and tense," he said as he made his presence known. Jane spun around and scoffed at the sight of the newborn tracker.

"It is not your business to meddle into what I am doing, tracker," she spat. Her nose was scrunched up and it took a lot of his willpower not to laugh.

Not that Demetri was scared of women but rather what would the masters do if they found out he had upset her.

Jane being in their favor was a huge setback for his endless teasing. She was using it quite well in her favor. He had already been in trouble for quite some time already.

"My pa used to make fiddles. I might be a little knowledgeable in this instrument if I could help you?" he asked sincerely.

To see her satisfied would be in their favor to not hear her grumble and throw a tantrum about it. Demetri clearly saw that the wives had raised a brat out of this blonde vampire in front of him.

Add in the fact that Aro gave her everything she wanted.

"Fine, but you better be good," Jane grumbles as he went behind her.

Demetri's hands hover around her wrist as he adjusted her stance in bowing. He tilted the instrument to an angle to give it some leverage. His other hand traveled to her shoulders. The tracker caressed it in such a way that Jane resisted the urge to actually punch him for being so near her.

The tracker was notorious for being a pervert after all.

The tracker swept her hair that hung loosely from her face. Jane might have been stuck in a body of a teen, but he could not deny that she looked attractive. Demetri dared to pull her closer and spun her around to face him.

Without a single doubt in his body, he had kissed the girl who loathed him the most. Demetri did not regret that

AN:

It was kind of hard to write this update for me but guess what? It pulled through :) Kindly keep in mind that Chelsea is not present at the moment. The Volturi members are still of their own free will, there's no really mind control and binding as of the moment. That's why you see a more humane portrayal and show that they are still divided in the Volturi. Don't forget to review, I would really like to hear from you guys.
