Trying To Fix Things
Back at the beach....
"Jay, it's cold. Give me your jacket," Uma said. Jay snapped his fingers and Carlos gave Uma his jacket.
Mal and Ben made their way back up to the beach. Evie saw them and gasped. "Here," she handed Audrey her marshmallows and ran to give Ben a hug.
"Thanks again Ben, for catching me," Evie said. "You know these are-" she stopped when she saw Mal and stepped back, gasping. "Oh, bunkers, are you two together? I would never take another girl's boy. I mean, that would be stealing, and probably very hard to return."
"Um, no. We're not together," Mal said looking at Ben. His smiled turned into a frown. "I mean we're together, but we're not.... Together."
"Evie, this is Maleficent," Ben said and Mal glared at him.
"So, you wouldn't mind if Ben took me for a walk on the beach?" Evie asked looking at Mal.
Mal looked at Ben and then Evie. "Please! Beaches are meant to be walked on. That's why they're called...... Beaches," she said. Evie confusedly looked at Ben and then Mal.
"You guys are strange.... I like that," Evie said smiling. "Um, meet me by the water, Ben," she said and then skipped away, but then stopped. "Oh! It was very nice to meet you," she said to Mal and then continued on her way. Mal smiled and watched her skip away.
"I don't get it," Ben said. "First you break up with me, but then you throw me in the arms of someone else?"
"She's crushing on you," Mal said.
"I like you!" Ben said. "And until you go off to that school, I'm not going to like anyone else but you."
Mal smiled and looked away. "The way I like you," Ben finished.
"Okay, you're not seeing what's right in front of you," Mal said gesturing to Evie, who was leaning against a lifeguard chair.
"You're right in front of me!" Ben said.
Mal groaned. "I can explain it to you Ben, but I can't understand it for you," she said. They then looked over to see Doug with his guitar looking at Mal.
Ben sighed. "So the way to get her to like him, is for me to deflect her affections off of me and on to him," He said uncertainly.
"I really hope so," Mal nodded. "I'm gonna do the same with Doug."
"All right," Ben nodded. "I'll be back as soon as I can get that smoking girl to hate me," he said and walked off. Mal shook her head and sighed, making her way over to Doug.
"Hi," Mal said when she got over to him.
"Hi," Doug said looking up from his guitar.
"Uh... Do you mind if I join you?" She asked.
"Of course not. I'd wanna join me too," Doug said and Mal smiled. "So, hey, I've never seen a chick quite like you."
"Chick? Really?" Mal asked. "Hold on while I lay some eggs."
"Okay," Doug shrugged.
"No, that was um...." Mal started and Doug just stared at her. "Never mind.... Uh, thank you, for the compliment. It's nice."
Doug smiled. "Sure," he nodded.
With Ben and Evie....
"So, Evie, how come you bikers don't get along with the surfers?" Ben asked as they walked down the beach.
"Oh.... It's always been like that," Evie shrugged. "We're not supposed to have a lot in common. Plus, we both want Tiana's."
"Some of them seem pretty cool, like, um, that guy Doug," Ben said.
"It was very courageous of you to charge the stage like that, and save my life," Evie said taking his hands.
"Courageous? No, no, no," Ben said and Evie nodded. "Maybe..... I mean, I'm sure anyone would've done the same. Even a surfer."
"You're my hero," Evie said.
"Hero?" Ben said and Evie nodded. They both leaned in to kiss. "I mean-" Ben snapped out of it. "Listen, Evie... It's amazing spending time with you, but it's not... I'm not what you think," he said and Evie just smiled confusedly at him.
With Doug and Mal....
"So, you play the guitar," Mal said and Doug looked up at her again.
"I know," he said nodding.
"No I mean.... Are you good?" Mal asked.
"Yeah, a little tired but-"
"Um.. Playing guitar," Mal corrected herself again.
"Well sure, when something inspires me," Doug said. "If music be the food of love, play on".
Mal knitted her eyebrows confused. "Was that Shakespeare?"
"Hmm? Ah, no. That was me," Doug nodded. "Sometimes I talk low for effect."
Mal nodded. "It works," she shrugged.
"Thanks. I can do hiiiiigggghhh," Doug sang. "Also. But, chicks really dig low better."
Mal nodded. "Yeah."
"You know, I dig you Mal," Doug said. "You're different than other girls around here."
"Actually, no. I'm not different. I'm exactly the same," Mal said.
"The same as what?" Doug asked.
"As everyone that isn't different."
"You mind if I write a song for you?" Doug asked.
"Ummm, yes. I mean, what word rhymes with Mal? Gal? That's a terrible song," Mal said and Doug's face fell. Mal sighed. "Really Doug, you only like me because you, think that running into you was destiny, but... Not our destiny, your destiny, with someone that you're meant to be with that isn't me..... See?"
Doug smiled once again and started strumming his guitar. "Oh, oh good. A song anyway...."
