The Hideout

"Evie and Doug were supposed to call into each others arms, find love, and then are pulled apart by a turf war, that's how the movies written?" Mal asked and Ben nodded.

"But instead they fell into our arms, and they're into us," Ben said.

"And there's no turf war,' Mal added.

"Right," Ben said and nervously crossed his arms.

"So we changed the movie," Mal said.

Ben's eyes widened. "We changed the movie," he said.

"We changed the movie!" Mal exclaimed.

"Yeah..."

"Well do you think it will affect anything?"

"It affected who they fell for, who knows what else if could affect."

Mal looked around kind of freaking out. "Okay, okay. Ben, you said that there's a storm at the end of the movie that we can ride out of here in?"

"Yeah, three days after they meet," Ben nodded.

Mal nodded slowly and then cleared her throat. "I'm gonna ask you something, even though I know, and I know you know, I don't wanna know. Is there anything that happens in the next three days that could somehow affect that storm?" she asked.

Ben thought for a minute. Then his eyes widened and he nodded taking Mal's hand and running.

"See! Didn't want to know!" Mal said running with him.

They ran down to the beach. "If you're looking for this to make sense you're on The wrong beach!" Mal yelled.

"I'm looking to see if Ratcliffe is building his diabolical weather machine," Ben said as they ran across the sand.

"How often do you hear that sentence?" Mal asked as they came to  bonfire.

"Remember, I told you about the maniacal real estate developer?" Ben said.

"Or that one," Mal said.

"Ratcliffe knows this beachfront property will be gold someday. So, he tells Tiana to sell it to him so he can build an overpriced resort. She says no," Ben said.

"Of course she does, or there'd be no movie," Mal said.

"It gets better."

"I can't wait," Mal said out of breath.

"Let's just stop right here," Ben said and they stopped running. Ben looked at the Lighthouse and saw energy bolts shooting out of it. "No way," he said. "It's Ratcliffe's hideout. Let's go, come on," he said and started running again.

Mal rolled her eyes and followed him.

At the hideout....

Ben gasped. "This is it!" he said.

"How do we get in?" Mal asked and as she ran to the door trying to open it but it was locked. She looked at Ben and he raised his eyebrows at her. He then bent down to the 'Not Welcome' mat and lifted it up, revealing a key.

"Boom," he said holding up the key. Mal rolled her eyes as he started unlocking the door. They made their way through the tunnels and heard a voice.

"You know, I've dreamed of a scheme like this every since I was a mere lad, conning my school fellows out of their lunch money," Ratcliffe said.

"Lunch? How about takeout?" Dr. Facilier asked.

"That's him," Ben said. "He's all British and proper, but he's from Pittsburgh."

"Who's that with him?" Mal asked as they watched another guy. "What are they building?"

"Desperate to get Tiana's, Ratcliffe hires a mad scientist, Dr. Facilier, to carry out his diabolical idea. Come on, come on," Ben said and he moved closer to them, Mal following him.

"What is that?" Mal whispered as she saw a machine with blue lightning sparking.

"Ratcliffe's diabolical weather altering machine," Ben said geeking out slightly.

"Yes, yes, yes," Ratcliffe said and then saw Dr. Facilier reading a manual. "Manual? This thing's almost built. Shouldn't you be book?"

Dr. Facilier smiled and threw the manual away. "This machine will so drastically change the weather patterns, it will literally still the oceans so there's no longer surf. It'll create humidity so dense, it'll rust every piece off of those shiny chrome machines. The surfers will leave to find a new spot to surf, the bikers won't come near this area ever again, and I shall triumph. Triumph, I say!" Ratcliffe yelled.

"You will have the last laugh," Dr. Facilier said.

"Yes. I've always been rather wary of the last laugh. What if it was only moderately funny?" Ratcliffe said and then laughed. "Ha, ha, ha."

"Ha, ha, ha," Dr. Facilier said.

"Ha, ha, ha."

"Ha, ha, ha."

"Ha, ha."

"Ha, ha."

"Hah!" Ratcliffe yelled and Dr. Facilier stopped.

Mal shook her head. "And this thing never won an Oscar," she said and turned, walking away.

"Mal. Wait, wait," Ben said going after her. In the movie, Evie and Doug discover Ratcliffe's plan. They unite the surfers and bikers, and destroy the machine, which ends in an explosion. That's what creates the storm."

"So if Evie and Doug don't get back together, which would put the movie back on track the way it's supposed to play out..." Mal said.

"The chain of events that create that storm won't happen."

"And we'll be stuck here and never get home," Mal said as she started walking away again.

Ben stopped her. "Don't worry. We'll figure it out," he said and Mal nodded.
