Leaving?
Ben and Mal were taking in Ben's office when a woman appeared at the door.
"Can I help you?" Ben asked.
"I'm here for Mal," the lady said.
"That's me," Mal said standing up. "Hi Janice."
"Hello," Janice said. "My, Mal, you look absolutely.... Unacceptable."
"What?" Mal asked.
"Not you dear," Janice turned to reveal an ear piece in her ear. Ben shook his head. "Tell him, the offer is unacceptable. It's good to see you Mal," she said and then took the ear piece out of her ear.
"What are you doing here? I thought you were coming tomorrow," Mal said.
"Well you thought wrong," The counselor said shaking her head. "We're leaving tomorrow. I hope you've packed."
Ben looked at Janice and then Mal, a frown growing on his face. "Mal, what does she mean by leaving tomorrow?" he asked. Janice turned and looked at Ben.
"Um, this is Ben," Mal said.
"Ben, I am Mal's college guidance counselor. I'm sure she's told you all about me," Janice said shaking Ben's hand.
"Mal, what does she mean by leaving tomorrow?" Ben asked again. Just then Ben's father came in the room.
"Janice, welcome to Auradon Prep," Adam said.
"Ah, hello Adam," Janice said.
"You know it's always good to have you back," Adam said. Janice used to be one of the guidance counselor's at Auradon Prep, one of the best. Until she found a job at a college she like better, and left.
"Oh, I see you haven't changed anything since I left," Janice said. "And let me guess, you're still King?"
"Still King? Didn't you see the coronation? Ben's king now," Mal said.
"Oh, yes. Young King Ben," Janice said. "How's royal life treating you?"
"Okay, alright. Mal, what does she mean by leaving tomorrow?" Ben said looking at Mal again.
"Ben, as of tomorrow, Mal will be attending the exclusive, overpriced, and um, did I mention exclusive, Bridge Wood Academy," Janice said.
"What?" Ben asked.
"Across Auradon," she said. Ben shook his head and Mal looked at Janice and then Ben.
"Uh, Janice, we should talk about this please," Adam said.
Janice walked over to him. "There is nothing to talk about. This has always been the deal."
"Uh..." Adam said as Janice turned to Mal.
"Isn't that right Mal?" she asked.
Mal glanced at Ben before looking at Janice. "Sure," she said nodding. Ben looked at the ground. "It's just that, uh, tomorrow there's this surfing competition I've been waiting the entire summer for."
"Surf?" Janice said and rolled her eyes. "Oh, sweetheart, your new life begins tomorrow. Your endless summer.... Has come to an end."
Mal nodded with tears in her eyes and looked to see Ben shaking his head. She then ran out of the room.
Ben followed Mal, and found her in the Auradon Prep Garden.
"I can't believe you didn't tell me," he said walking over to her upset.
"You don't understand how hard I tried. I just... I didn't know how " she said looking down.
Ben shook his head. "You're leaving? Just like that? Why are they making you do this?"
"They're not making me, it's my choice," Mal said setting her book down.
"So change your mind."
"There's not enough time. My flight leaves at noon tomorrow."
"How can you leave? This is your home. It's where your friends are. It's where you surf, it's where I am."
"I was really lucky to get into this school Ben. And my counselor says it will pave a way to my future."
Ben just rolled his eyes. "Look, I know you're upset, and I should have told you. I just.... I didn't know how!" She said and stood up, starting to walk away.
"Mal!' Ben said following her. She was almost at her dorm when he stopped her. "Hey! Stop!" He grabbed her arm. "What was this deal your counselor was talking about?"
Mal turned and sighed. "After I came to Auradon, the deal I made with the counselor was that, I could stay here for the first part of high school, and then when it was time to get serious, I would leave, with my counselor And go to this school," she said shrugging.
"So she just shows up to take you away?" Ben asked. "Aren't you happy here?"
Mal looked down at the book in her hand with tears in her eyes. "My mother never went to College. She had me and wanted to take over the world with evil...."
"That's not your fault!"
"No, I know it's not. I also know that I can do what she never did."
"You don't have to be someone a stuck up counselor wants you to be. Mal, you can be anything you want."
"Ben, I have to do this!" She said walking to her dorm door.
"What about us?" he stopped her again.
"How can there be an us after today?" Mal asked with tears in her eyes.
Ben looked around. "I'll.... I'll wait for you."
Mal shook her head. "I know what it feels like to miss someone Ben. I care about you too much to put you through that."
"So you're saying that you care about me enough to break up with me?" Ben asked.
"I don't want to Ben, but what choice do I have?!" she asked.
Ben just looked at her for a moment before turning and leaning on the way looking away. Mal walked over and rested her head on his shoulder.
"Thanks," she said. "For the most awesome summer of my life. I wish it wasn't over."
Then she turned and walked into her dorm, and shut the door. Ben sighed and walked down the hall.
Meanwhile in the museum.....
The wand suddenly started to glow, and then stopped after a few minutes.
