Chapter 4: A Need For Help
"Okay, everyone feel like they know the place well enough yet?" Crystal asked me and Marx. Buddy yapped in response from by my feet. I only smiled and nodded. The place was huge, but everything was pretty easy to navigate around with there being signs on the walls and a few maps that showed each floor of the big base.
"Yeah, I think I am good." Marx said happily as he finished up some bread. It was somehow nice and crusty on the outside but moist and the perfect amount of cheweyness to it on the inside. I had already finished mine.
"Alright then. I have some things to do but I will make sure to find you and show you guys to your rooms when night comes." Crystal said with a kind hostess smile on her face.
"We get our own rooms?!" I exclaimed in excitement. Marx turned quickly to Crystal with joyful eyes at the same time.
"Yh- heah. But the rooms are pretty small so we have enough for everyone." Crystal said, a little bashful about it. But me and Marx didn't care. We had never had a room to call our own in our lives! So we were more than happy. "Okay, well, see you guys later." Crystal waved. And in a flash of light, and almost pale blue particles, she was gone. Me and Marx just stared in awe at the trick she just pulled.
"You think YOU could do that?!" I asked my friend quickly. He just shrugged and showed no desire to try it out. He probably didn't mind being as normal as possible at the moment. So, Marx turned to walk around a little more, and I followed close beside him. Maybe someday we would eventually memorize that place. Unfortunately, we had no idea how little time we had to do so.
-------------------------
Brap!
Brap!
Brap!
Sorry for the weird words, but that is the only combination of letters I could think of to describe the ear splitting sirens that suddenly rang through the halls.. Me and Marx were quick to cover our ears to attempt blocking out the noise. The lights flashed red every time the sirens blasted. Not a good sign.
"What is the siren for!?" I shouted to Marx.
"Whaaat!?" Was all he could return with.
We saw everyone running or even flying, literally, through the halls in a panic. We raced around too for Crystal, the only person we could think of who would know what was wrong. Eventually me and Marx found ourselves pushing through a worry filled crowd inside a large open room with high scielings and a big, as round as you can get inside Minecraft, round table in the very center. Everyone circled around the table, looking in it's direction.
"What is going on?!" I pleaded in the crowd for answers. No one seemed to notice me enouh to answer. But the sickening feeling of worry haunting the place told me that whatever it was, wasn't good.
Finally the ringing in my ears subsided and I could hear Crystal in the center of the room talking in a serious tone to eceryone. I could just barely see the top of her head Bob up and down as she paced while speaking. Later I noticed she was indeed standing on the table since the floor was too crowded. But I could hardly hear a word she said. Finally the crowd hushed enough for me to listen in.
"-seems as if someone has spilled the information of our location.. And now, Herobrine is on his way.." The entire crowd gasped in panic. "But don't worry everyone!" Crystal comforted. "We have not made this base for no reason.. If I know anything, it is Herobrine. And I have set all this up knowing that he would eventually attack. Now we need to all understand the plan or NOTHING will work in the end! Got it?" Everyone nodded in response. "Good, now Gregory...." She began giving detailed orders to everyone while pointing to places on the table, which had a map on it, to everyone paying attention.
Since me and Marx were so young, we weren't really expected to do anything, which I was fine with. But Marx wasn't. I could tell he wanted to help so badly. It was always his thing to be the one always more than willing to help. For me, me and my friends' survival was all I really cared about most of the time.
As people were assigned positions and jobs they left group by group until there were only a few left, including Crystal. They were all whispering about something obviously important.
"Ahem." Marx cleared his throat as politely as possible so that everyone could see us there. They all looked at us quickly before immediately turning back to continue talking. "Uh, AHEM!" Marx then said a lot more impatient.
"What is it Marx?!" Crystal snapped, finally looking a bit stressed by the situation.
"I just want to help." Marx explained for defense against Crystal's stern gaze, her eyes flickering between normal and glowing pale blue.
"I will let you kids know what you can do if we ever need it. Until then you can help supply everything. Okay?"
"Yes mam." Both me and Marx said backing off like Buddy was with his tail between his legs. Once we left the room, we headed down to the storage compartments for further instructions.
---------------------------
Being stalk manager was boring; I wanted something better to do! I just walked from chest to chest and made sure everything was filled and organized correctly. Marx did the same but on the other side of the room.
"Uhhh, this is so boring." I whined. Marx didn't look all too happy about the situation either.
"I guess it is better then possibly dieing, I guess." He sighed to lighten the mood as best he could. It didn't work. I just groaned more in frustration.
"Yeah but I don't want to be cooped up in here while everyone else is fighting! They shouldn't be treating us like children!" I huffed.
"But we are children." Marx pointed out. Still not helping!
"He's here!!!!!" We heard someone holler from far down the halls. Me and Marx had a pretty good idea of what he meant by that and we ran as fast as we could out of there. The hallways were absolute chaos. Everyone was coated in armor and held swords and bows in their hands with enchantments of all kinds. Crystal was floating in the big center open space still giving orders to everyone.
"Group B and C, get up into your positions! Archers, I need you all up there ready to ambush! Brewers, we still need those potions of swiftness! Chop, chop, chop!" She commanded of everyone. Everyone ran to their organized places and did as they were told. "Herald, where is my A team?!"
"They went with 303 already for the behind attack." I am guessing Herald answered.
"What?! I never told 303 to- ....Ghah!! That no good triple agent!! He must be working for Herobrine too! Quickly, take as many as you can find to make sure the A group doesn't reach Herobrine's army. They might be planning an ambush!" Me and Marx were immediately worried for the A team.
"We need to help." Marx stated. I nodded, but then realized what I was agreeing to.
"Wait, no way! I am not going to go out where I could DIE any minute! No way!" I objected.
"Fine! I'll just go on my own then!" Marx said before turning and running off. I just watched him as he ran.
"...W- wait for me!!" I shouted as I ran after him.
-----------------------------------
I have no idea how, but Marx managed to talk Herald into letting us tag along and help if we can. Herald must have been really desperate for help. Most of the people he managed to scrounge up were janitors with a little fighting skill and a few brewers, and us. What surprised me was that Buddy seemed to know exactly what was going on the whole time. When we left through one of the hidden exits that was covered in shrubs Buddy was marching out like a soldier. It was pretty cute.
Once we left the base Herald gave all of us iron swords and we continued on our way. I looked at Marx as he grabbed his sword for the first time and he looked so excited. Neither of us had ever held a sword before. Once we were both given our iron swords I was pretty excited too and both me and Marx began sword fighting. We were both pretty bad but got better as we went along. The group began moving through the thick jungle the base had been burried under in the direction 303 had taken the A team. As we walked, me and Marx would take turns sneaking up on one another and pounce. Then we would fight again with our swords. It was great practice in our opinions.
"Will you two just stop already?!" One of the previous janitors snapped at us as we ran past him.
"Actually Jef, these kids are being smart and practicing now as we go. I wold actually suggest you all do the same." Herald said from the head of the group. All the adults looked around at eachother awkwardly for a moment. But then to our surprise, almost all of them put on childlike grins and began sword fighting one another as they kept going down the not very well beaten path. Me and Marx smiled as we played with the adults as if we were all kids again. Herald just looked over his shoulder at everyone. "Kids." He chuckled.
----------------------------
About two hours later Herald said we were catching up to everyone. His estimations were based off recent footprints in the mud. Everyone began tensing up in worry and held their swords close to them. My sword saw shaking in both my hands. My sweat was making the handle slippery in my grip.
Suddenly when we were at the edge of a clearing Herald stuck out his hand and stopped everyone. I had to look over Marx's shoulder just to see what had caused everyone to stop so abruptly. In front of us was not a natural meadow like I had hoped. The entire place was scorched. The grass black and the remaining trees covered in black soot and leafless.
"W- what happened here?" Marx asked Herald with trembling words.
"War." Herald answered with solemn growl. Everyone just stared at the burnt landscape in horror. Far off, we saw more people. And they were fighting. "Come on! We need to help!"
We all ran after the distant battle. It must have been the A team trying to survive the ambush. As I got closer I realized why they were called the A team. All of them looked like professional fighters. All of them had mastered the weapon of their choice. Many of them had glowing eyes like Herobrine, but several of them were just good fighters and didn't need powers to survive. I saw all colors of fire burn through the enemy. The most impressive color being purple, which was the hottest and did the most damage. Other than fire it looked like a few had water obilities. I saw wither skeletons, which must have been Herobrine's army, being pushed back by waves of water. There was chaos as we got closer and closer. And when I was close enough I saw a few dead or wounded, on our side, laying on the floor.
"Yess! The cavalry has arrived!" One of the ones flying above the enemy shooting black spheres of fire down on them noticed us and shouted. More turned to look at us and smiled.
"Finally!" One with glowing yellow eyes scoffed. She must have been pretty tired at that point.
"Wait, looks like they just sent us their janitors!" One of them said in dissapointment.
"Shut it Cloud! We need all the help we can get!" A girl with an enchanting book floating around her scolded.
"No u!" Cloud teased.
"Quit the talking and keep fighting!" A man with red hair and glowing red eyes ordered.
Everyone then stopped talking and continued fighting like told. Me and Marx hesitantly but bravely ran towards the enemy army. It was go time!
