Chapter 2: Awakening
My eyes slowly fluttered open as the sun shown through the window onto my face. I rolled over in the old creaky bed but it was no use trying to fall back asleep. I looked over and saw the many rows of old beds in front of me. All the other kids in them looked like they were slowly waking up like I was. One by one they began talking, trying to be as quiet as possible, but completely failing.
"Shut up!" Wensley grumbled from under her pillow. She was one of the oldest, so everyone knew to listen to her. Especially since just a couple days ago she beat up Tommy just for sitting in her favorite seat.
"Wensley, stop shouting!" Jordan growled from under his own pillow. He was across the way on the boy's side of the large rectangular room.
"You're the one shouting Jordan!" Was Wensley's rude response. Jordan just sat up, as well as Wensley. Everyone, accept for a few, sat up slightly and watched what was going down. I was one to sit up and watch.
"No you are!!" Jordan shouted.
They both got out of bed and readied for another boxing match. Both the two oldest kids in the orphanage going to square up against eachother once again. I almost felt like being the announcer but then remembered Danny had tried that once and got a punch to the face for it. Jordan and Wensley were pretty equal in speed and strength so most of their matches ended in a draw when one of the leaders came in to shut the fight down. But this was so early in the morning. Maybe today we could all finally know who was the strongest.
"Fight, fight, fight, fight." A few kids chanted quietly to not draw attention to themselves. Once Wensley and Jordan made it to the very center of the room, which was void of beds to bump into, they put their fists up and gave eachother death glares.
Then, the fight began. Both charged forwards, fists flying. They had fought so many times before that they both knew the other's first moves. Then they tried newer ones like side kicks and hammer fists. Several kids chose sides. Most girls cheered for Wensley while most boys cheered for Jordan. There were kids who cheered for the opposite team they were expected to though. I just watched, not wanting to get into anything. My room was in the far corner by the window so I was thankfully already out of harms way. I just had to make sure to stay quiet.
"Okay everybody, STOP!!" Marx jumped out from the crowd that had gathered and stood between the two oldest before they really got dangerous. Some in the crowd booed or awwed in annoyance as the young blondie broke up the fight. I was probably the only one who actually smiled. Even though Marx was a year younger than me, 13 years old, me and him saw eachother as twins. Marx was also probably the nicest there in the orphanage. He was usually the one breaking up the fights between the kids. I was usually just the one to watch unless the match seemed unfair. Wensley and Jordan stood panting and scowling at eachother.
Good thing Marx got there before the fight involved chairs or the dismantled legs of a bed. A fight like that would definitely not end well. Probably with Wensley knocked out cold. What?! She may be tough but I still think Jordan would have won that fight.
Slowly the anger in the older teen's faces dissipated. As did the crowd. Once all the drama was over I quickly ran up to Marx and tackled him in a hug. It was always scarry seeing him get involved in a fight like that. He chuckled and pat my back comfortingly. I could tell he wanted out of the hug so I let go and just smiled.
"Sometimes I wish you weren't so brave." I teased. He smiled slightly.
"Must be in my blood or something." He chuckled too. Then, Mr. Zanderson stepped in. She looked at the kids walking around and took note of each one in her head. She wasn't exactly mean, but she never showed ANY emotion. Herobrine himself could destroy this whole place and kill all of us and she would keep a stone solid face. And because of that everyone saw her as mean and rude. I usually just avoided her.
"Ugh.. Let me guess, Wensley and Jordan got in another fight, again." Mrs. Zanderson growled. Even though she sidn't show much emotion, she could see it expertly on others and could tell what had happened just by looking at people's faces and by the way the sheets were moved around. She would be a great detective. But that also made it impossible for someone to lie to her. That's why most never even try lying, including me. "Jordan and Wensley, you two work together on cleaning the hallways. Jace I want you to stay with them incase they start to argue.. Lilly and Ava, I want you two to mop the rooms after Clancy, Mapel, Furn, Sammy, Drake, and Tommy finish sweeping them..." Mrs. Zanderson began handing out orders to everyone. "And Marx and Zannie, I want you two to clean up outside along with Madelyn." She instructed. (Then once she left we all sung "It's a Hard Knock Life." XD. Jk)
I never really knew Madelyn very well since she was always so quiet, but I sure was happy to have been teamed up with Marx. Me, him, and Madelyn grabbed some brooms and went outside. The sky was a pretty light blue but there were some storm clouds far in the distance slowly looming into our direction so we all knew to clean up quickly. We began sweeping the dirty sidewalk and tending to the remaining flowers in the flowerpots.
"Hey guys, what's that over there?" Madelyn whispered over to us as she stood looking across the old broken street. Me and Marx looked as a few adults walked into a building. We would have just ignored them, if they hadn't been acting so secretive about it. They looked over their shoulders as if looking for anyone that might be following. A few women entered the same building, also looking all shifty. After a little bit of watching while still cleaning, I noticed that all their outfits seemed to fit the same theme. Something about their clothes just said rebel for some reason. Was it a secret rebellion gathering? There was only one way to find out. And I intended on doing so.
"Hey Marx." I whispered over his shoulder. "I think we should check that place out."
"And get caught by the whole rebel squad? No way." He whispered back. He must have been thinking the same thing that I was. I just made a pouty face and looked back at the ominous door across the always quiet street. Rarely did anyone come through this place. Probably why it would be a good place for a rebel meeting.
I hadn't told anyone acdept Marx, but I secretly wanted to become a rebel myself and fight against Herobrine and his descendants to finally put an end to the never ending war. Marx agreed and we had both decided to join the rebellion when we were old enough and fight Herobrine together.
Finding a moment like that one too interesting to ignore, I snuck across the street when no one was around and entered through the old wood door. Once inside I snuck around behind some dusty old furniture and the crowd that had gathered inside. The place looked like it had once been a bar, but the place where drinks were sold had been turned into a stage, using the old counters as the base with boards on top. I crouched behind a couch and squinted through the crowd towards the stage. Then I heard Marx sneak up besides me.
"You should know by now not to just run off like that." He whisper scolded.
"Heh, you're the one whose a year younger, and you're big brothering me." I chuckle whispered. He smiled slightly and we both looked to the stage as someone walked onto it. The crowd clapped but as quietly as possible since this was secret. The guy on stage looked pretty young to be leading a rebellion. His outfit was much cleaner than the majority of the group and his face had a well trimmed small beard.
"Welcome everyone. So glad to see so many new faces since our last meeting." The man smiled, projecting his voice so all could hear, but not shouting so those outside couldn't hear. "Today I am here to say just how glad we are to have our top spy and backup here with us today. Entity303, you mind taking the stage for a moment?" He said. The crowd clapped as a warn white robed stranger with glowing red eyes and even darker red pupils hovered down from the balcony onto the stage. He smiled politely.
"Umh, hi, everyone." He said unsteadily with a shy wave. "As you can probably tell, I usually don't talk on stage." He said. Several in the crowd chuckled a little. "Anyway, the progress like always is going up. The other spies have been gathering very necessary information. Information I wouldn't want to be sharing to any spys in here." He said. Me and Marx froze at the sudden coldness in his tone. "Now, uh, who here is a spy?" 303 said with a witty smile. No hands went up, just a few laughs from the audience. "Eh well, I happen to know how to find a descent of Herobrine pretty easily since, um, I used to work with the guy." He said awkwardly. Then his eyes flickered to a glowing purple with dark purple pupils. "Now, uh, everyone look around for glowing eyes. They should be visible for all to see." He said. Everyone then began looking around.
I felt as if I saw a little brightness show into my vision from the right side. I quickly turned and saw, Marx?! His eyes were glowing like Herobrine's accept very light green instead of pure white. I could tell he had noticed because he was looking down at his hands as his eyes illuminated them. He then looked up at me in horror and mouthed: "Oh no." I just looked at him with surprise. My best friend, the nicest person I knew, was part monster?! I thought that all descendants of Herobrine were evil! Maybe just those who knew they had powers. What if he became corrupt after finding out!?
"M- Marx?" I whisper yelled.
"I- I- I am not doing this. I- I had no idea! Wh- What's wrong with me?!" He whisper yelled in return.
"Oh my goodness! That kid! He's a Descendant of Herobrine!!" Someone from the crowd pointed us out. Then everyone turned to us, not even caring if we were children. They crept towards us like they would Herobrine himself, swords, bows, tridants, crossbows, knives, sticks, bats, and even sythes all drawn and aiming at us. Me and Marx quickly stood and backed up to the wall. The deadly weapons only drew closer. I looked over at Marx and saw his Herobrine-like eyes and found it hard momentarily that he was still the same person. He still expressed all the emotions Marx did, just different somehow with those eyes. Entity303 hovered above the crowd looking down at us with an odd look. I wasn't sure if it was just a blank stare or if he was thinking about helping us out.
Then, arrows were fired. Me and Marx crouched down and put our hands over our heads in preperation for pain. But none came. I slowly looked up wondering what was going on. And I saw the person I least expected to see holding up a shield of pure energy in front of her. Mrs. Zanderson. She looked over her shoulder at us two with the first bit of emotion I had seen on her in a long time. Worry. And her eyey. They were solid glowing light purple. Not pink. Light purple. :}
"Go!" Mrs. Zanderson ordered both of us. She then slid a glowing purple sword into her hand and began fighting the rebels. They all fought back of course. To them, she was nothing but a threat.
I grabbed Marx's hand and started running to the door. Right before we could escape, Entity303, the legend himself, landed right in front of us. Diamond sword in hand. His eyes were back to their usual red. Something about him seemed unsure of the actions in mind but he kept his posture unwavering as he blocked our only way out.
"Where you think you are going?" He chuckled as he looked at our desperate faces to escape. He smiled at our miserable yet determined expressions. From the corner of my vision I saw a fireball emerge and fly towards 303. He easily blocked it but was dumbfounded when he saw where it had come from. I looked as well and saw the fire had come from Marx. His right fist was still a little on fire. My jaw dropped at the realization of what had just happened.
"Marx?! How did you do that!?" I asked, half panicked by the fight still going on behind us.
"I- I- I don't know! I just figured I might try since I heard Herobrine could shoot fire too!" Marx sort of explained. I guess it made a little sense. I then watched this time as Marx put his hands closer together and formed a bigger fireball. He then proceeded in throwing it at Entity303. 303 barley missed and his robe was a little singed when he looked back down at it. But instead of looking back up at us angry. He looked back up at us with a smile.
"Good shot kid." He chuckled as he looked directly at Marx. "..I guess I may as well help you two out." Then he teleported right in front of us and grabbed both our arms before purple and red particles swirled all around the three of us like a little tornado. I felt my whole body tingle for a millisecond, I felt my whole body warp through space in one swift movement. My mind ached like crazy as I opened my eyes and looked up. I, we, were in a completely different place.
We were in another building. The interior looked like a mixture between a modern mall and a survival bunker. There were balconies ringing around a large open area with a glass roof that let in plenty of light.
"303! What are you doing here?!" A woman shouted after suddenly appearing in a flash of light and particles. Entity303 just gave her an annoyed look.
"Actually helping this time." He grumbled while rolling his eyes. "Brought these two kids in. They were sneaking around the rebel base and almost got caught."
"Because of you!" I snapped at him.
"Alright fine. I'll hand you that. But I wasn't expecting a couple orphans to be spying on us." 303 said.
"Speaking of rebels, what have you learned from them?" The woman asked. For some reason I couldn't brush away the feeling I had seen her before. Like I had seen a picture of her from somewhere. She had long dark brown hair and kind gentle brown eyes full of wisdom. Wisdom most people her age wouldn't have. She only looked somewhere around thirty.
"Oh, they're just doing the usual rebel stuff, thinking diamonds will solve all their problems. Those silly mortals have no idea what-so-ever the kind of power they are trying to stop. Like really, do they really believe they can get involved in a war that mostly takes place above the clouds?! Shouldn't be long until they finally give up. Maybe forty or so years and they'll fizzle out." Entity303 aid, sure of his words.
"But we don't just want them to fizzle out. We need them by our side. We need them to help us finally finish off Herobrine and his followers." The woman said with a slight shake to her head.
"Um. Excuse me.. but who exactly are you?" I decided to interrupt with a question. The woman turned to me with a kind smile.
"I have many names. But everyone here calls me Crystal." She informed. Then, it all snapped into place. I remembered where I had seen her. She had been on the cover of a book I had read. One that was now considered a history book. This woman was Diamond, the first daughter of Herobrine!
