The Third Man
For once Harmony was grateful for Lisa. She pretty much kicked Dean out of her house so now they were back to hunting and were on their way to meet Sam.
"Does Sam seem different to you princess?" Dean asked.
Harmony shrugged her shoulders. "A lot can happen in one year, I know I've changed a lot. Not as much as you though."
"For the last time, I'm sorry I made you stop hunting for a year and had you hide your powers."
"Whatever." Harmony sighed before she got out of the car and walked up to Sam.
"Still driving the plastic piece of crap huh?" Dean asked as he looked at Sam's new car.
"What's your mileage again?" Sam asked smugly.
"Shut up."
"So what's the case?" Harmony asked.
"Basically guy just liquefied." Sam explained. "All his meat, bones, tissue just turned to blood."
"Never heard of that before." Harmony admitted.
"So what's left of him to look at?" Dean asked.
"We're not here to look at him." Sam said as he pulled out another body covered in boils. "Found him dead in his patrol car at a speed trap on the outside of town."
"Extreme allergic reaction." Dean said raising his brow at the file. "Not buying it, looks a little witchy."
"That was my first instinct, but I've found zero signs of hex work anywhere." Sam explained. "As far as I can tell witchcraft was not involved."
"Gotta be some sort of link between skidmark and bubblewrap here." Dean said.
"Any witnesses?" Harmony asked.
"Yep, another officer saw our first victim go from a solid to a liquid." Sam nodded.
"Another cop?" Dean asked.
"His partner." Sam nodded before they went to go talk to him.
When they got to the officer's house the guy looked pale and sick. "Whoa, looking sharp Kojak." Dean joked.
"Who the hell are you?" The officer asked.
"We're the Feds, here to ask you questions about your partner's death, the girl is here for school to observe my partner here for career day." Sam lied.
"It's nobody's business, dont worry about it." The cop said before slamming the door in their faces.
Sam kicked the door open.
"Dude." Dean gasped.
"The door wasn't even locked." Harmony rolled her eyes as she followed her brothers in before she saw the cop was cutting up the faces of all his family photos. "Dude, what the hell?"
"They both had it coming." The officer mumbled as he started drinking a bottle of booze. "Me too, I'll be the next to go and then it'll be over. God will be satisfied."
"I think ya had too much to drink." Harmony told him.
"Why would God want you all dead?" Dean asked.
"Cause of Christopher Birtch." The cop replied.
"Who?" Sam asked.
"He has no face." The cop answered. "No face and a planted gun."
"What?" Harmony asked before she noticed blood start to run down the cop's face.
"My head's been itching like a dirty jock." He mumbled before falling over dead.
Harmony flinched as the strong feeling of death overcame her. "He's gone."
Sam walked over to the body and pulled off his hat to reveal locusts were eating up the officer's brain.
Harmony and Dean gagged while Sam looked blank before they all left.
"Blood, boils, locusts." Dean listed.
"Three of your more popular Egyptian plagues." Sam nodded. "I looked up the name her gave us. Kid was shot in the head last month after a vehicle pursuit. The three dead officers were involved and all filed the exact same police report.
"Just a kid with no face and a planted gun." Dean quoted. "Bunch of dicks. So they popped the kid, planted the gun."
"Maybe heaven has a hate on for bad cops." Sam shrugged.
"So we're gonna listen to the guy with the bug in his custard?" Dean asked. "That's the theory you wanna go with?"
"Angels gotta have something to do." Sam shrugged.
"We should call Cas." Dean suggested.
"Finally." Harmony cheered.
"I've tried." Sam disagreed. "It was the first, second, and third thing I did as soon as I got topside. Son of a bitch won't answer his phone."
"Well lets give it a shot." Dean shrugged. "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray to Castiel to get his feathery ass down here."
Harmony burst out laughing.
"Come on Cas, don't be a dick." Dean continued. "Got ourselves a plague like situation down here, do you copy?"
"Like I said, son of a bitch doesn't answer." Sam mocked before they all heard the sound of wings. "He's right behind me isn't he?"
"Yep." Harmony grinned.
"Hello." Cas nodded to the siblings.
"That really seemed to tick Sam off. "Hello?"
"Yes."
"Hello? Hello!" Sam mocked in disbelief making Harmony giggle.
"Uh, that is still the term?" Cas asked confused.
"I spend all that time trying to get through to you." Sam snapped. "Dean calls once and now it's hello?"
"Yes."
"So what? You like him better or something?" Sam asked.
"I do since you made me spend a year in normal town ya dick." Harmony told Sam.
"Dean and I do share a more profound bond." Cas said.
"Cas, I think what he's trying to say is that he went to hell for us." Dean explains. "Then he comes back without a clue and you can't take five minutes to answer?"
"If I had any answers I might have responded, but I don't know." Cas replied. "We have no idea who brought you back from the cage or why. The whole thing remains mysterious."
"Ok, well back to what's going on." Harmony spoke up. "These cops are dying you know about it?"
"They were committed with one of our weapons." Cas replied. "There's only one thing that could have brought this into existence. The staff of Moses. It was used in a dominance display against the Egyptians as I recall."
"I thought the staff turned a river into blood, not one dude." Sam said.
"The weapon isn't being used at full capacity." Cas explained.
"Well I don't think Moses is our guy." Harmony said.
"What is his disco stick doing down here anyway?" Dean asked. "Don't you guys put away your toys?"
"Before the apocalypse, heaven may have been corrupt but it was stable. The staff was safely contained. It's been chaos up there since the war ended." Cas explained. "In that confusion, a number or powerful weapons were stolen."
"You saying your nukes are loose?" Dean asked.
"Yeah, I'm afraid so. But you've stumbled on to one of them, we must find the weapon that did this. I need your help."
Sam scoffed. "That's rich."
"Sam." Harmony glared. "We're helping him."
"So if the angels didn't pull the trigger then that brings us to motive." Dean pointed out.
"Well you know, if I was the victim's family I'd wanna get my hands on the bastards that killed him." Harmony said.
Suddenly all four of them were in someone's house.
"Cas! A little warning next time." Dean said roughly.
"Whoa whoa! How'd you get in here?" A man asked jumping up from his couch.
"Settle down, federal agents." Sam said showing him his fake ID.
"But you can't just walk in here." The man scoffed.
"Good thing we didn't then." Harmony mumbled.
Sam noticed the guy was reading all the newspapers involving the three dead cops. "Quite a collection you got there."
"Look." Harmony stepped forward. "We know your son didn't have a gun on him when those cops shot him, we know they were set up."
"Yeah." The man agreed. "They're all getting theirs."
"And who's giving it to them?" Sam glared.
"Did you kill them?" Dean asked.
"Me? I didn't kill anyone. Look at how they died." The man answered.
"You smote them with the staff of Moses." Cas accused making Harmony facepalm.
"The hell kind of Fed are you? And what Feds bring a kid?" The man asked confused.
"We don't have time for this." Cas sighed about to walk up.
"Leave my dad alone!" A kid just a little bit older than Harmony demanded while pointing a stick at them.
"Is that?" Dean asked.
"Yes."
"A stick?" Harmony raised her brow. "Where's the rest of it?"
"It's been sawed off." Cas observed.
"Leave him alone, it wasn't him." The boy said.
"Yeah, we see that." Harmony rolled her eyes. "Put it down, magic doesn't work on me and if you do anything to my brothers I'll rip your hair out of your skull."
"Arron get out of here." The dad ordered but Cas put him to sleep.
"What did you do to him?" The boy now named Arron asked.
"He's alright, he's just sleeping." Dean assured.
Harmony snapped her fingers and the staff was now in her hand.
"Harmony?" Dean asked surprised.
"How did you do that?" Sam asked.
"Question him first, me later." Harmony told her brothers before looking at the boy. "Now where did you get this?"
"Please don't kill my dad." Arron begged.
"If I wanted to I would have." Harmony answered. "Now answer me."
"You wouldn't believe me."
"Try me."
"It was an angel."
"I believe you."
"You do?"
"Who do you think this is?" Harmony nodded to Cas. "So let me guess, those three cops killed your brother, you wanted revenge and some dude said you can have justice am I right?"
Arron slowly nodded his head. "Yeah, exactly. How'd you know?"
"Sounds more like a demon than an angel. Let me guess, this guy asked for your soul." Harmony continued.
"Yes." Arron admitted.
"Nice." Harmony rolled her eyes.
"Can that happen?" Dean asked Cas.
'It's never happened before." Cas answered. "But an angel buying souls could explain why the staff was cut into pieces."
"Why?" Sam asked.
"More pieces, more product." Cas replied.
"What does that mean?" Dean asked. "Who is this guy."
"We'll find him." Cas said before he put Arron to sleep.
"What'd you do that for?" Dean asked.
"Portability." Cas answered as he put Arron over his shoulder and they were all back in their motel room.
"Cas, you just realized you just kidnapped a kid." Dean said.
"If the angel truly bought this boy's soul a claim is laid on a living soul. It leaves a mark, a brand."
"Like a shirt tag at camp?" Sam asked.
"You don't expect him to understand that do you?" Harmony asked Sam.
"I can read the mark." Cas said. "I can find the name of the angel that bought the soul."
"How?" Dean asked.
"Well, painfully for him." Cas admitted. "That's why I want Harmony to do it."
"Me?" Harmony asked.
"You can read this boys soul, it will be painless if you do it."
"Ok, what do I do then?" Harmony asked.
"Look into his eyes and you'll see who owns his soul."
Harmony walked over to Arron and pulled up his eyelids to get a look in his soul, it was hard but eventually, she found it.
"Did you get a name?" Sam asked her.
"I guess." Harmony shrugged.
'You guess?" Sam asked.
"What was it?" Dean asked.
"Well, it is an angel." Harmony scratched her head. "Um... Bil.. Bal.. Boltar?"
"Balthazar?" Cas asked.
"I guess." Harmony shrugged.
"I thought he died in the war." Cas said surprised.
"Friend of yours?" Sam asked him.
"A good friend." Cas nodded.
"Well your frat buddy is now moonlighting as a crossroad demon." Dean pointed out.
"Balthazar." Everyone turned to see another angel behind them. "Thanks Castiel, we'll make good use of the name. By the way Raphael says hi." The angel said as he swings his angel blade at Cas only for Cas to block it with his own.
"CAS!" Harmony screamed as Cas forced them both out a window.
The three siblings look out to see Cas and his attacker land right on Sam's car.
"Ok, silver lining." Dean grinned making Harmony chuckle while Sam glared at him.
"He's gone." Cas says when he appears back in the room.
"Who was that guy?" Sam asked.
"Soldier of Raphael." Cas answered. "He must have followed me when I answered your call."
"Raphael? The archangel?" Sam asked.
"Dean and I met him." Harmony told Sam.
"Raphael and his followers want him to rule Heaven." Cas explained.
"Oh a dick like that shouldn't rule anything." Harmony scoffed.
"Exactly." Cas agreed. "We have to find Balthazar and his weapons before Raphael does. Whoever has the weapons wins the wars."
"What happens if Raphael wins?" Dean asked.
"He wants to end the story the way it was written."
"Friggin angels." Dean mumbled. "Why does Raphael wanna bring back all this crap?"
"He's a traditionalist." Cas said before he tracked Balthazar to a mansion.
"Huh." Dean said as he stared at the place. "I was expecting more Dr. No, less Liberace."
Cas disappeared to look for his brother while the siblings fought the angels on Raphael's team.
After Harmony turned one of them to ashes she heard something break inside the mansion. "Cas." Harmony rushed inside to see Cas fall downstairs and Raphael stand over him.
Before Harmony could save Cas someone else did it first. Another angel held up a glowing rock and Raphael's vessle turned to salt.
"What the?" Harmony mumbled.
"Same thing happened to the Lot's wide. Idolize the poor sucker and your kitchen is stocked for life."
Harmony ran over to Cas and helped him up. "Are you alright?"
"Yes." Cas looked at the angel. "You came back."
"Well now, Raphael will have to go shopping for a new vessel, should give me a nice long head start on him." The angel said before looking at Harmony. "So this is the famous Harmony... I pictured you more... firey."
"How's this for firey?" Dean said as he lit the ring of holy oil the angel Balthazar.
"Holy fire. You hairless apes, Cas. I stood up for you in Heaven."
"I believe the hairless apes have the floor." Cas shrugged.
"Give back the souls you took." Dean demanded.
Sam held up the holy oil. "Unless you like your wings extra crispy."
"Fine." Balthazar glared before he did some kind of silent prayer. "Now release me."
Harmony did so.
"Harmony!" Dean and Sam scold.
"He saved Cas's life guys." Harmony explained before she looked into Balthazar's soul. "He and I are gonna get along fine."
