The Pet Store Competition
Vanessa's POV
I woke up and saw that Clarissa was not here. She must have already gone to Evie's Boutique. I got out of bed and got dressed in a pair of black jeans, a purple shirt and a black leather jacket. I had to go over to the Auradon Pet Store before school to help Carlos with the before school adoptions. I grabbed my purple beanie and walked out of my room.
I walked down to the Auradon Shopping Center. I saw lots of shops. I then saw the pet shop. I walked in and saw a lot of animals. I saw fish in tanks, a few small puppies in little play pens and more. I saw Carlos at the front desk, and walked over.
"Hi Carlos." I said.
"Hey Vanessa." Carlos said.
"I have to say, I never expected you to be working at a pet store surrounded by dogs." I said. He laughed and smiled.
"Yeah me too." Carlos said. "I want you to meet Dude." Next to the desk was a little shaggy haired brown dog.
"He's cute." I said.
"Yeah, he was originally the schools dog, but Ben gave him to me." Carlos said.
"Wow I never imagined you with a dog." I said and smiled. "Does your mom know?"
"Yeah, she wanted to turn him into earmuffs. But I wasn't going to let that happen." Carlos said and picked up Dude. We both laughed. We then heard the door open. I turned around and saw Jane with her backpack.
"Hey guys." Jane said.
"Hey Jane." I said. I wasn't really thrilled that Jane was there. They way I saw Jane and Carlos look at each other made me think that they liked each other, and it made a part of me jealous and mad.
"Hey Jane. Oh Vanessa I hope you don't mind I invited Jane to help us." Carlos said.
"I don't mind." I said through my teeth.
"So what do we do?" Jane said dropped her backpack and stood next to me.
"Just help with the adoption, and convince people to adopt these dogs." Carlos said. I then got the most amazing idea, an idea that I was sure of to impress Carlos.
"How about we make this a competition?" I suggested and looked at Jane.
"What do you mean?" Jane asked me.
"I mean between me and you Jane. We have all different types of competitions on the Isle of the Lost." I said. "Like...who's the evilest. Who's the sneakiest, who's more clever, and well you get the idea."
"I'm not really a competitive and competition person." Jane said. I then smiled. "Perfect" I thought.
"Well we'll see." I said. "How bout it Carlos?"
"I can't see why not?" Carlos said. "I think it will be fun."
"Well ok." Jane said. "I guess it'll make the adoption more fun."
"Exactly." I said. "Then let the competition begin."
After Carlos opened the store up, some people came and were looking at the puppies. Jane and I tried to convince people to adopt. So far I had 6 adoptions and Jane had 5. Yes I was winning! Their was now one puppy left.
While I waited for the next customer, I saw two girls sneak over to the fish section. I got curious, so I went over to them. I hid behind one of the aisles and looked at them. They were in front of the tanks of fish. One girl had black hair tied into a ponytail and had blue eyes. She wore a pair of jeans and a blue blouse, and the other girl had brown hair with a shell clip in it and had hazel eyes. She wore an orange dress.
"Ok how are we going to get the fish out of here without being seen?" The black haired girl said.
"We could go through the back door." The other girl suggested. I then decided to go talk to them, but I also kept an eye on the door, so if anyone else came in I could be there to help them before Jane.
"Hi, can I help you?" I said as I stood next to them.
"Um no, no thanks." The black haired girl said.
"Oh really, because I think I just heard you guys wanting to steal some fish." I said and crossed my arms. "I never thought Auradon kids would have the nerve to do that."
"We're not stealing. We are setting free these poor fish back into the ocean." The other girl said.
"Are you one of the new villain kids?" The black haired girl asked. I nodded. "Are you...Ursula's daughter?"
"Yeah." I said. "Why? You got a problem with that?" They both backed up. I knew their parents must have had some issue with my mom. It then hit me. The black haired girl must have been Ariels daughter.
"Are you Ariels daughter?" I asked her. She nodded.
"I'm Melanie." She said.
"I'm Vanessa." I said.
"This is my Cousin Aqua." Melanie said.
"How dare you say my name!" Aqua said. "She's the daughter of our parents enemy."
"Ok...so just because of what my mom did, you think I'm just like her." I said. Wow, these good kids jump to some serious conclusions.
"Well you were raised by her." Aqua said.
"Does that make me just like her though? You haven't even gotten to know me." I said. I could see some of the panic started to leave Melanie's face and she stepped forward a little bit.
"Your right. We don't know you and we were jumping to conclusions." She said.
"She's right. We're sorry." Aqua said.
"How about you sit with us at lunch today and we can get to know each other." Melanie suggested.
"Sure." Vanessa said. "But you can't steal these fish. I'm pretty sure the head mistress would frown on that, and your parents. You'll have to leave them here."
"Ok." Aqua said. "It was nice meeting you."
"You too." I said. They then walked back out the door. I walked back to the front desk and saw the last dog was gone.
"What happened?" I said.
"We sold the last dog." Carlos said. "So that makes you two tied." Jane clapped and I strained a smile. I hated losing and I hated tying in any competition. We then heard the school bell ring.
"Well we better get to class." Jane said. "See you guys later." She then walked out the door with her backpack.
"Vanessa, since your not getting your schedule until later you can follow me to my classes." Carlos said. I smiled. Yes some time with Carlos.
"Sure I'd like that." I said. I think I even blushed. Oh no. I don't want to become one of those girls. He grabbed his backpack and we walked out the door. This might turn out to be a good first day at Auradon Prep
