Next Day.
Kitrina's POV.
I sigh as I organize all the school materials and seats how I wanted in my classroom. Before long there's a knock on the door and I check my wrist watch. 7:44. School doesn't start for another 16 minutes, and my first class won't be here for another hour after that. I shrug it off and walk over to my door. I open it to find four people there, Adam, Derby and two people I don't know. One was a pretty girl with brown hair with a figure smaller than mine height wise. The second was a tall boy with brown hair and brown eyes. He looked rather intimidating, but I wouldn't let him be if he's ever in my class.
"Can I help you Derby, Adam?" I ask, looking at the two nervous boys. Derby seemed nervous about the tall boy, obviously intimidated by him, while Adam was nervous by the girl, his crush.
"Hey KitKat! Just wanted to wish you luck!" Derby says nervously, trying to regain his composure around me.
"Thank you, Derby. Is that all? I still have to get my classroom ready for students." I smile at my little brother.
"We can help!" Adam says, somewhat excitedly. The girl seems a little off-put by his outburst, probably thinking he liked me, but it was obvious to me he only liked her, and only wanted to impress her.
"That's alright, Adam, I think I can manage on my own." I smile nervously under Derby's little glare at me, not used to it, but knowing it was sent to me because he wanted to help me no matter what.
"C'mon Big Sis! Let us help!" Derby pouts a little.
"Fine." I sigh, letting them into my classroom.
"So what is it you're gonna teach?" The girl asks curiously.
"Well, I major in most parts of art, so I'll teach music, painting, dance, anything that involves inspiration really." I smile. "I apologize, I didn't get your names?"
"I'm Echo, and this is Slab." She gestures to the tall boy. "I'm pretty sure we are gonna be in your class later today."
"Well then, I look forward to seeing you two later." I smile again, feeling a bit more confident with knowing their names.
"KitKat, what do you want our help with?" Derby asks, picking up a rather large sketchbook. "It seems ready for students already."
"Ah! Just a few things really, put up some art posters, organize sketchbooks, finish moving desks around." I ramble.
"Well... Me and Echo can do the posters while Derby and you can organize the sketchbooks and Slab can move desks!" Adam announces, determined to help an old friend, and impress Echo.
10 minutes later.
I place my hands on my hips and look at the work we did in the classroom. Derby was next to me, in a similar pose, looking around, Slab was at the door waiting, Echo was putting the last poster up while Adam held it in place.
"Thank you four so much! I owe you all, but that we'll worry about later! You have a couple minutes before the bell rings, you better hurry on your way." I tell them with a big smile. Derby smiles too.
"Bye KitKat." He kisses my cheek before running out to the hallway, Slab following.
"I look forward to working with you, Ms. Derbotsford." Adam jokes before leaving with Echo. I sigh and collapse into my chair.
"It seems you've cleaned up nicely, Ms. Derbotsford." Principal Tater says, walking into the classroom. "I wonder how well you will deal with your first set of students?" He chuckles to himself.
"Principal Tater. I hope you're having a fine morning today." I offer, organizing the stack of papers listing my students for the day. "What can I do for you, this fine morning?"
"Well, I am having a good morning." He smiles, before becoming serious. "I want to be sure I made the right choice hiring Derby's sister as our art teacher. You won't be doing anything destructive, right?"
"Of course not, Principal Tater. I will be teaching them how to grasp onto what inspires them, and do what they love to do."
"You won't be teaching Derby more pranks though, right?" He asks warily. I sigh, knowing Derby and his antics.
"No. My brother has a hidden passion, and I hope to help him grasp and embrace it." I tell him. "I am sure that Echo has a hidden talent in drawing or painting. And I am fairly certain Slab likes the art of dance."
"You've got all of that with just meeting them today?!" He asks shocked, I nod. "You are a wonder, Ms. Derbotsford."
"Yes, well, I believe you must get going, Principal Tater. I will have a class in only 35 minutes." I tell him, checking my watch. 8:25.
"Have a wonderful day, Ms. Derbotsford." He says before leaving my classroom. I sigh before walking over and closing the door and sitting at my desk, preparing what I would do today.
Knock knock.
"Mrs. Derbotsford?" A voice asks kindly from the door. I look up to see Echo and another girl, who spoke, poke their heads in.
"Echo? What are you doing here? We still have–" I check my watch. 9:01. "A minute past the time I would have open the doors." I sigh before standing up. "I'm sorry." I tell her, seeing her open the door and propping it open for me.
"It's alright, Ms. Derbotsford." Echo smiles at me before standing in front of my desk.
"Right then. You will be sitting here..." I tell her, leading most kids to their assigned seat, along with Derby and Slab. When finished I go back to the black board behind my desk. "Hello class, I am your new art teacher, Ms. Kitrina Derbotsford. I don't mind if you call me by Ms, or my first name." I write my name on the board before turning to the class.
"I don't mean to be rude, Ms, but how old are you?" A girl in the front asks. "Cause we have a 14 year old teacher here too, and a really old teacher too."
"Yes, well I am 24 and I graduated at the age of 15, majoring in most of my studies before going back and going to school to be a teacher. Today is for any questions you may have for me. Who wants to go first?" I smile kindly at them.
"Um... Are you Derby's sister?" A boy asks.
"Yes, I am actually his older sister." I look over at Derby who smiles. "But that doesn't mean I'll go easy on him. He's still a student." That wipes his smile off completely. "I will treat you all equally."
"Ms., what's your favorite form of Art?" A girl asks curiously.
"Well, my passion has always been music, I love listening and experimenting with it. Any other questions?" I ask, leaning against my desk, facing my class as their eyes brighten with curiosity.
"How are you going to teach us? Just one form of art, or more?" A boy asks from the back of the classroom.
"Excellent question. I plan on teaching you, Monday through Friday, each a different form of art. Friday you will have a vote on what form you'd like to do, even if we already did it earlier in the week, as long as we agree on it. Any other questions?"
"What art forms on the other days?" A girl from the center of the class asks excitedly.
"Well... I was thinking Drawing and Painting on Mondays, Music on Tuesdays, Dance on Wednesdays, and writing on Thursdays." I smile warmly at my plans as the students seem happy.
