Epilogue pt.1: Wedding
"Yoongi proposed to you!?" I exclaimed in surprise when I walked into Eunjung's office one morning and received that news. She and Yoongi took a few days off and she just returned to work.
Eunjung nodded with excitement and flashed that massive diamond ring on her left ring finger. She obviously could not contain her happiness; she had the brightest smile on her face I had even seen. I could've sworn I could even see shimmers of tears in her eyes.
"I still can't believe this is finally happening!" She swallowed as she once again stared at that shining stone on her hand. I had to say, it was probably the biggest and most beautiful diamond I had ever seen in my life. It was a lot bigger than any that I've seen on sale in those jewelry shops. The intricate design of that ring only asscentuated its beauty instead of shifting attention away.
"How did he do it?" I asked, eager to know more about this perfect love story.
"He first booked out a whole Michelin restaurant, where we had our first date, to ourselves last night, then he flew me out to New York in our jet. We went to the Time Square and... and..." Eunjung was smiling so much she couldn't continue.
"And?" I urged her on.
"He bought all the big billboards around the square and used them to spell out 'Will you marry me?'."
"He is so extra!" I laughed.
"I know, I love it!"
"You are a lucky woman, I tell you," I said.
"I know I am. I love Yoongi so much."
Jimin was right, I was literally getting diabetes from this couple's sweetness.
"Have you started thinking about the wedding yet?"
"Of course I have! I was so happy I couldn't sleep last night, so I just used the time to start planning."
Since I was leaning forward on her desk, my diamond J necklace was dangling in front of my. Eunjung glanced at it and smirked. "What about you? When will your wedding be?"
"I..." I got a bit embarrassed and looked away. "I don't know. Is Jimin the type to be tied down?"
"I'm sure he will say something soon. In the five years I've been friends with him, I've never seen him express more emotion than when he is around you. He loves you. And when it's your wedding, be sure to invite me..."
"Of course! Is that even a question?"
"...Because I am asking to you be my Maid of Honour."
Haha, I must have heard wrong. "Sorry?"
"Yerin, be my Maid of Honour."
I only sat there and blinked a few times. "Me? You sure?"
"Yes, I am sure. I don't have many female friends since it's hard to meet any through my line of work. It is rare to meet someone in a similar position as me, and especially rare that we get on so well."
I closed my jaw and quickly nodded. "Yes, of course! I'd love to be!"
"Good, because I've already planned our weekend."
-----
When Eunjung said she had already planned what we were going to do this weekend, I didn't expect the schedular to be this full. In two days we looked for a designer for her wedding dress, looked for the bridesmaids' dresses, started to think about the cake, stared to write up a guest list, and started to look for places where it could take place. By the end of the weekend I was exhausted, yet Eunjung seemed to somehow have more energy than when she started.
Eunjung's chauffeur pulled us up in front of Yoongi's mansion on the Sunday evening. The construction to repair the bombing damage recently finished so the groom and bride to-be moved back in. A maid came out and, along with the chauffeur, helped us carry the mountain of shopping bags into the mansion.
We dumped all of it in the front hall and went into the living room to rest. I was surprise to see Jimin sitting with Yoongi on the sofas under the chandelier.
"Jimin? Why are you here?" I asked.
"Guess," Yoongi said.
"I don't know, having brother time?" I shrugged.
Yoongi laughed and shook his head. "Jimin is going to be my Best Man."
I was happily surprised for what seemed like the tenth times of the week. "He is?" I looked at Eunjung and it looked like she already knew.
-----
A few times when Yoongi and Eunjung were too busy with work in Blaze and FIRE, Jimin and I would go to the wedding planner as their representatives. They somehow managed to hire the most famous wedding planner in the country to personally oversee the organisation of their wedding. Some people have to wait months even to get a meeting with her.
"Here is the first draft of the guest list," I said to Mrs Im, the said celebrity wedding planner. She had strands of grey hair in her tight high bun. Jimin and I sat in front of her desk in her office.
She pushed umber glasses up and her eyes expertly scanned across the piece of paper. "Very good. Probably the largest wedding I have ever planned, but I will make sure it goes well." She inserted the paper into a grey folder. "What are you looking as the final guest number?"
"Around 250," I replied.
She nodded. "Wedding dress?"
"Miss Oh has contacted Vera Wang to design her dress."
"Very good." She ticked that box on a piece of paper listing all things of the wedding that needed to be planed. "What about the location?"
"We would like to hear you suggestion on it," Jimin said.
For that hour, we continued planning the wedding, the parties, and even talked a bit about the honeymoon. After the session was finished we thanked her and left her office into the waiting room outside, which had a TV to alleviate the waiting guests' boredom.
"Now onto the entertainment news," the female news anchor said. A footage of the Time Square filled the TV. It then zoomed out to the buildings behind and then their large billboards. The few billboards captured in that shot could be seen to spell out 'marry me'.
"Jimin," I stopped him from walking further, "I want to see this."
We went to sit a a sofa that wasn't taken up by other guests. The news continued. Yoongi and Eunjung were now the centre focus of the video and they were standing in the middle of a crowd in the Time Square. Suddenly, Yoongi got onto one knee with a box in his hand. He opened the box and presented it to the evidently elated Eunjung. Even from a distance I could see the glimmer of the diamond.
The anchor was voicing over the footage, "Blaze's CEO and owner, Min Yoongi, who suffered from a gang attack a while ago, recently proposed to his long time girlfriend and work college, Oh Eunjung, in the Time Square in New York City. It is believed that they started their relationship when they were still in school and have never broken up since then. Socialites say that their wedding will be the biggest social event in Korea of the year. An inside source confirms that the Maid of Honour and best man has already been chosen." Two pictures came onto the screen. On the left was a dark male figure with a question mark on his face. It was the figure this channel uses when they didn't have a picture of who they were reposting. Next to that was a picture of me. I laughed a little when I realised it was the same one they used when they announced that I was suspected to be the Busan Killer.
Her voice over continued. "The maid of honour is rumoured to be Song Yerin. She was wrongly suspected of being the Busan Killer. It is unclear how Song Yerin and Oh Eunjung became close friends but it is believed that they were friend even before the gang attack as she was seen attending Min Yoongi's funeral. The best man is an employee in Blaze whose identity we do not know. We will be updating this wedding of the century between Min Yoongi and Oh Eunjung when more information is received."
I noticed the other waiting guests looked between the TV, me, and Jimin, obviously realising that it was us.
