Consolation
We arrived at Jungkook's house after around half an hour drive. I was surprised to see Jungkook didn't live in an apartment like most people in Korea, but rather a two-storey detached house in a nice neighborhood. It was relatively spacious even though it obviously could not be compared with Yoongi's mansion.
I pressed the doorbell and Jungkook came to open the door after a few seconds.
"Hey, Jimn-hyung, hey Yerin," he greeted us, still in his pyjamas of a simple white t-shirt and baggy black pj bottoms.
"Where's Eunjung?" I asked immediately. Jungkook gestured for us to follow him. He re-locked the door after we entered and led us to a room upstairs. He knocked on the closed door with light spilling though the gap at the bottom even at this hour of the night. "Eunjung? Yerin and Jimin are here."
The door was slowly opened. I was so surprised by the state Eunjung was in. Normally whenever she appeared in front of other people she always has immaculate makeup, good fashion, and hair perfectly done. But today, her eyes were puffy, her hair disheveled, and she was in a baggy jumper which I've never seen her worn.
"Eunjung," I whispered empathetically. I gave her a hug which she gratefully responded. I stroked her back and we just stayed like that for a few moments.
"Yerin," she sniffed, "I- I-" She broke into a fit of sobs.
I looked back at the two men standing around. I gestured for them to give us some space and I closed the door of the room behind us. I helped Eunjung to sit on the bed and did so myself.
"Yerin," she said when she finally had the breath to, "I can't believe- I-I don't believe Yoongi is..."
"Shh..." I hugged her again to comfort her. "I can't believe it either."
"He is the only one I've ever truly loved," she said between sobs. "I loved him so much..."
"I know, I know," I said. You could tell that Yoongi and Eunjung were really in love just by observing how they interacted with each other every day, how they looked at each other, and how they had that special smile reserved only for each other. What Jackson said was true; their partnership was indeed an epic tale.
She continued crying into my shoulder for another few minutes before calming back down a little. "I'm sorry..."
"Don't be," I said, "I can't even imagine how hard it must be."
"I just- don't know what to do now? I've gotten so used to living and working with Yoongi, that... I don't know what to do without him."
I decided it was a good moment to bring up what I knew was on both Jungkook and Jimin's mind right now. "Eunjung, you are the leader of FIRE now. They need you."
"But...can I really do it?"
"Of course you can! You said so yourself when we went shopping together, remember? You said even without Yoongi you are just as powerful in the Underworld. There is a full on war going on with Bludhood out there right now. People are dying for this. They need you to lead them in this war."
That seemed to have gotten through to her as I detected a change in her expression. She contemplated for a few moments. "You are right. I've been selfish, holing up in this room. I need to get back to FIRE and lead my men."
I smiled seeing how some of her spirit had returned. "That's right, but first you need to eat properly and rest. Jungkook told me you haven't been doing either of that."
She nodded. I propped up the pillow for her. "Just rest a bit, I'll go cook something for you."
I then stood up and left the room, closing the door behind me. Jungkook and Jimin has been standing out there, patiently waiting the whole time.
"Is she alright?" Jungkook asked when he saw me coming out.
I nodded with a smile, "she is better now. I'm just gonna go cook something for her. Jungkook what have you got?"
He thought for a bit, "I don't have much since I eat out a lot of the time... but I do have some rice and other stuff."
He showed me to the open kitchen next to the living room with Jimin following us. He told me where everything was and left me to do what I wanted to do.
I grabbed the raw rice and poured it into a saucepan, adding a lot of water in. Then I put it on the stove and left it there.
"What are you making?" Jimin asked, watching me do my thing.
"I'm making congee*," I answered as I opened the fridge and look for any ingredients I could add in it. I grabbed a packet of beef and prepared to cut it on the kitchen counter.
(*Congee is savory porridge that is very popular in Asia. You can eat it plain or with other stuff like meat and fish.)
Jimin suddenly put his arms around my waist and hugged me from behind. "You haven't cooked for me in so long."
I sighed, "Jimin, I'm not in the mood right now.
He rested his head on my shoulder. I could feel his warm breath on my neck. "I miss your cooking," he purred.
Whenever Jimin was like this, I could never resist him. I stroked his hair with the hand that wasn't holding the knife. "Alright, alright. When this is all over I promise I'll cook something good for you."
He smiled into my neck and kissed it before pulling away. He took the knife from me and twirled it around his finger skillfully as if he was twirling a pen around. Grabbing the handle when the knife was facing down, he stabbed it right into the beef.
I looked at him with a raised brow, "Jimin this is beef, not a person."
He smiled with something in his gaze, "I miss it, to be honest."
"Do you? But you still do assassinations for FIRE now."
"Yes, but it is not where near as fun as serial killing and playing with the police."
I chuckled as I pulled the knife out and cut the beef. "Well if you started killing again now it would be way too suspicious. Don't forget Seoyun is still on trial and not convicted yet."
"I know." He said. He then walked around to the living room and lied down on the sofa. A few minutes later when I checked on him he was already asleep. I borrowed a wooly blanket from Jungkook and put it over him so that he wouldn't get cold.
