2. Friends

It's a simple and pretty little story, how we met each other.

I was swimming around the rocks of my home, awaiting some tiny little fishes that would come wandering near me. The formation of rocks where I usually sheltered myself in was a favorite of all fishes of every kind, so normally, it was a job as easy as a piece of cake to seize nice, filling meals.

I said, 'normally', which means that there was an exception, and it was most certainly the day I found my best friend. Instead of running into a prey, the situation that used to always happen, I ran into the dangerous vision of an anglerfish, and I had had no time to make an escape for my frail little life. I stiffened with shock and fear right in front of the long, irregular blade-like teeth, the cold and deadly eyes - honestly, if icy glares could kill, angry Angy would surely be a serial murderer - and the angler illuminating her extremely devilish face. It was impossible to not be frightened and frozen stiff in wherever I was.

Luckily, Angy just wasn't in the mood of hunting that day. She stares at me in curiosity, wondering if she had seen an animal that had an appearance this weird, while I peeked at her in surprise, puzzling if the existence of a lenient anglerfish was possible. The two of us seemed to come with an answer of 'yes' for both questions, for we to start greeting each other.

"I didn't know there's someone like you around." That was how she was, straight and true, she said exactly what she thought.

"We lived in the deeper places, usually..." I awkwardly replied, embarrassed by my explanation, "I got lost and got here." That was another long story that I might tell later.

"That explains a lot." She sighed, if fishes could really do that, and said. "Lucky you that I am already full for today." I nodded in agreement.

"Thanks...?" I thanked, but Angy only focused her attention on the small fins on my head, which she was the most curious about.

"What's that you have?" She swam in a whole circle around me, and by her bony tails she motioned my abnormal features with an obvious. Somehow this strange anglerfish didn't care about eating, and for me that's a good signal of survival. I felt like I could be a bit arrogant with her.

"Wings." I flipped them proudly as a demonstration for my little statement, and spun in a small, happy round to show her my funny, cute fins, which looked exactly like I got flying wings. She naively believed all that I said, for she to be quite clueless about those stuff I told her. It felt pretty guilty tricking Angy with this usual white lie of mine, but somehow at that time, I was joyful to have a new friend, an anglerfish who didn't hunt out of leniency.

We found interest in each other, and, in some way or another, like how strong friendships of humans happened, we started to just hang out sometimes and discover new things in our world of deep water, as we shared an endless curiosity in mysteries of all kinds.

So, that's how we became best friends.
