Chapter 21
Taehyung POV
"I'm a doctor!" I shouted. "I should be there! Please!"
"Sir," said one of the nurses, standing in front of me, keeping me from going into the hospital room with Hobi. "You're too unstable. Please leave this to us."
Hands wrapped around me, caging me in someone's embrace. I struggled against their grip.
"Let me go!" I protested. "Let me go!"
"You're causing a scene, Tae," Namjoon said. "Calm down."
I began to cry for the umpteenth time that night, terrified for what might happen to him.
"I...I want to see him," I pleaded, my struggling growing rapidly weaker. "I want to see him."
Jimin cupped my face and leaned his forehead against mine. "I know you do but right now you can't. All we can do is pray. Okay? Take a deep breath."
When he inhaled, so did I; when he exhaled, so did I. I knew it wasn't going to do any good being hysterical.
I closed my eyes and reopened them as Jimin pulled away and Namjoon let go.
"Let's go wait in the waiting room," said Yoongi.
I stood up from my seat as soon as the doctor came out.
He looked at me with sad eyes.
I rushed over to him. "What happened?"
"I'm terribly sorry," he said. "We did all we could. I'm very truly sorry."
"No. Don't tell me..." I felt like I was going to throw up.
He shook his head. "He suffered from internal bleeding. We couldn't help him in time."
I covered my mouth.
"You can't be serious," said Yoongi from behind me.
"He's gone?" asked Jimin.
The doctor said nothing.
"Please! There must be something more you can do!" I cried.
His frowned only deepened.
I licked my lips. "Can I go see him?"
He nodded and lead me to the room. I turned to my friends who had followed me.
"I think I need some—"
"Time alone?" Namjoon finished. "We get it."
Jimin was trying to hide his tears, but more kept streaming down. Yoongi held him close.
"Go on," he said.
I took a deep breath before opening the door. I gently clicked it closed, surprised at how calm I was, though I figured it was because I was in denial about his death.
I carefully made my way over to him and sat on the chair beside his bed. He looked so beautiful sleeping there. He looked like he was just taking a nap and that at any moment he would wake up.
So that's what I thought about. I pretended he was just taking a nap, waiting for him to open his eyes again and smile that innocent smile he always gave me to lighten my mood on dark days.
I reached over and held his hand.
"Hey, there, kiddo," I said, sniffing. My eyes were already getting misty. "You gave me quite a scare tonight." I swallowed a lump in my throat. "I-I just wanted to say I'm sorry. For everything." I took a shaky breath as my tears raced down my cheeks. "I-I know I failed a-as a guardian and bo-boyfriend, but, goddammit, please wake up." I took a moment to pull myself together because my voice was cracking. I swallowed another lump. "I'll take you any form I can have you. Whether you remember me or not. Just..." I couldn't hold back. I couldn't pretend. "I-I j-just don't want yo-you to f-feel like it's you're fault. Dammit, Hobi, y-you are everything to me. You a-are all I have. Wake up. Please. I'm begging you. Wake up!"
He doesn't answer.
"Hobi, get your ass up please!" I cried. "They're going to take you away from me! Do you want to be away from me? We won't have play dates and eat ice cream and cuddle and kiss! You are willing to give all that up because you refuse to open your eyes?" I hover over him, ignoring the fact that he probably can't hear a thing I'm saying. "Open your eyes, baby, please! Open them! I love you! I love you, dammit! Don't leave me, too! I'm sorry! I love you so fucking much!"
"You can stop screaming at me," came his voice. "I'm awake."
I froze at the movement of his lips and fell completely silent.
He opened his eyes slightly and looked at me.
I was too frozen too move.
Did I really...Wake him? Is this real?
"Taehyung."
I fell back on my chair, petrified.
He looked over at me and rubs his eyes. "Kim Taehyung."
"Y-You're alive. H-How much do you remember?" I managed, my voice scratchy.
"My parents and the car crash. They're dead. I remember..." He closed his eyes and sighed. "I remember being able to hear everything, but it was dark. People said I was going to be placed in your care once I was out of my coma since I don't have parents and I'm going to wake up not knowing anything that surpasses the knowledge of a small child. Then it all went black."
This wasn't Hobi anymore, I concluded. This was Jung Hoseok.
"How do you know me then?" I asked.
He blinked, staring at the ceiling. "Because I remember."
My breath hitched. "Wh-What parts?"
He turned to me with a bright smile. "I'm your hope."
"H-Hobi."
He remembered! He remembered everything! He remembered me, my friends, our nights on the couch, our little fights, our laughter, all the drama! He just had to give me that look and I knew!
"Taehyung..."
I jumped up and brought his head to my chest, crying again.
His laugh was music to my ears. "I feel really embarrassed about all the things I did. Sorry for the vase."
"No. Don't apologize," I whispered. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
"I love you too, loser."
I cupped his cheeks and leaned my forehead against his.
"I thought I lost you for good."
"Can't get rid of me that easily."
"I—"
I was cut off when Hoseok connected his lips with mine. I gladly returned the kiss with much passion, trying to process how real this all actually was.
When he pulled away he smiled. "Maybe we should start over. Hi, I'm Jung Hoseok."
I moved a stand of hair from his face. "Kim Taehyung, but just call me Tae Tae."
"Nice to meet you, Tae Tae."
