Chapter 6
Hermione was dreaming, she was back in Dumbledore's office the day before he was killed by Professor Snape. She was deep in a conversation with the headmaster....
"What is this sir? I've never seen anything like it in my life." Hermione gasped studying the small vial in her hand. It was shaped like a downward V, as if two vials were blended into one. It's contents were the colour of old blood towards the top and mixed into black in what could only be described as an ombré effect.
"This, my dear is something that was given to me many years ago. There is only one vial of this draft in exsistance."
The old man replied seriously, "how can you be sure that it's the only vial?" Hermione asked, intrigued by the rarity of the potion in her grasp. "My dear child, I knew the wizard who made and discovered it. He only made two and the other one was used. What you're looking at right now is probably the most important potion ever brewed." Dumbledore explained, popping a sherbert lemon into his mouth.
"What exactly does it do? and why are you giving it to me?" "I'm giving it to you because the war is most certainly on its way, and I shall not be here to see it. It's called 'Draft of the Phoenix' that's what Omulus named it anyway... Miss Granger it can bring someone back from the dead if used within an hour of their last breath."
Hermione was stunned beyond belief, how was this possible? Who was Omulus? She had so many questions.
"You want me to bring someone back from the dead with it during the war.." she gulped, drawing her eyes up to meet the headmaster. "Many lives will be lost during the war Miss Granger, as with any conflict. I trust you, and you alone to make the right decision when using this draft." The headmaster explained with a small smile.
"Why do I have to make the choice? it's unfair to put this on me..." "No, child it is imperative that it's you. Harry is too impulsive.. he would use it before it is really needed." Dumbledore sighed.
Deep down Hermione knew he was right about that.
"You should also know that the ban on apperating and disaperating from within Hogwarts has been lifted for you alone. I must insist that you do not tell anyone nor use the abuility until and only when you use this draft. For I fear that the next headmaster would inforce the ban again if they knew..."
"You have this all planned out.. it's as if you know exactly what's going to happen! How do you know that you will die before the war? We don't know exactly when the war will begin.. If it ever does! What are you keeping from me Sir? please don't just give me tidbits of information.." Hermione pleaded.
"I have given you all the information that I can, I wish I could tell you what will happen in the war but I do not have the knowledge to do so, all I know is that I'm very ill and I do not have much time left."
"What if Harry gets to Voldemort before the war has a chance to break out?" Hermione replied. "I can assure you that the war is coming. It's not a case of IF but When. I'm merely hoping that you survive and are able to use the potion on he or she who needs it the most." Dumbledore told her honestly, she could see he wasn't holding anything back.
"Proffesor... how will I know who needs it the most?" "My dear, you will just know."
