Twenty Three: Jealousy

Dusk's P.O.V.

"Hey Winston, so nice to see you decided to join Denouement High," I smiled. Winston looked down at the ground for a second before looking up at me again.  "Alright, Mr. Jones, my daughter will give you a tour, and I hope you enjoy your first day," Father smiled at him. We walked out of the office, and I started in the drama wing, and slowly we made our way towards where the health and medical classrooms on the other side of the school.

"So, what classes are you wanting to take in medical study?" I asked, a small amount of curiosity filling my head. Even though Winston and I talked about him wanting to go into the medical field, he wasn't specific about what he wanted to work with. "I'm considering either working in Health and Wellness or becoming a medical assistant," he answered. "Oh, nice. So, your following in your father's footsteps?"

He nodded as we continued walking down the hall, and soon we approached the health classrooms. "I must say this school is really nice!" he smiled. "Thank you. My great grandfather built this school. It's changed a lot over the years," I smiled. Father taught me all about the Denouement History when I was four, and I had to learn how to memorize whole family history just in case anyone said anything about the school. I'll admit, it was a little annoying at first to memorize it on a day-to-day basis. But, it was fun learning about the things I never knew before.

"So, this is the Health classroom, you know basics in nutrition and health," I briefly explained as Winston slightly poked his head through the window of the classroom. Throughout the tour, he kept asking me to talk a little about myself. It felt awkward talking to him, given that the last time we saw each other, I was a mess when I found about my disease. In my mind, I kept praying that once I introduced Winston to Ava, Veronica, Quigley, and the others, I hoped that Quigley wouldn't get jealous of him.

"Alright, so in order to solve this problem, we need to-" Blah blah blah, God, I hated my math class. Because of my grade in math last semester, I was placed into more advanced classes. Let's say that math is not one of my favorite classes. I was more of the History and English type of person. When third period finally let out, I walked down the hall to my locker and dropped off some books before I headed to the cafeteria.

Where is Dusk? I hope she's doing okay. Ever since the "incident," I hadn't heard a word from her, not even a Christmas Postcard. And I was becoming even more worried about her. I sat down at our usual table with Isadora and Duncan. But this time, Ava, Violet, Veronica, and Klaus all joined at the table, and we all waited to see if Dusk was coming or not. "Hey guys!" A voice called out, and I looked over to see Dusk walking towards us with a boy next to her. He had dark brown hair that looked almost similar to mine, and his eyes were a light green that met mine, sending a slight shiver down my spine. When I got a better look at him, I recognized him as one of the doctors.

"Dusky!" Veronica squealed, standing up, and ran into her arms. "Hey Veronica! It's so nice to see you guys again!" Dusk smiled. Through that smile, I could tell that something was wrong with her, but she tried her best not to show it. "Who's he?" Klaus asked, looking over at the new kid. "Oh, where are my manners? Winston, these are my friends, Ava, Veronica, Klaus, Violet, Isadora, Duncan, and my boyfriend Quigley," she introduced Winston to us.

"I remember you guys from the hospital! You were the one who ran into the trauma ward, right?" Winston asked, looking over at Veronica. Her cheeks turned a bright pink with embarrassment, and she slowly nodded as she sat back down. Dusk sat down next to me, with Winston sitting to her right. "So, Dusk. I know this will be hard for you to talk about, but we need to know what happened at the dance?" Violet said in a low tone so only we could hear. I placed a gentle hand on Dusk's back, and I felt her flinch under my touch.

"It's nothing. I told some of you guys it was just a fainting spell," she answered. As much as I wanted to believe that she was telling the truth, my gut told me that she was hiding something from us, and I intended to find out what it was. "Dusk, I know that's not true. Come on, tell us what's going on," I tried coaxingly. Dusk just stared down at her food and ate some of her red velvet cake.

"Dusk," Violet spoke up. She looked up but said not a word. Her eyes glanced over to the clock and stood up without warning. "I got to do something. I'll be right back," she said before walking away. Winston stood up and tried to follow her, but I grabbed his hand, preventing him from going after her. "What are you doing, man?" he asked. "Look, you may be the new kid and all, but I don't trust you for a second," I growled.

"Dude, if you think I'm trying to steal your girl, you've got it all wrong," he said, lifting his free hand as if he was making a promise to tell the truth. "You better not, she means a lot to me, and the last thing I need is some doctor trying to sweep her off her feet and take her away from me," Winston pulled his hand away and walked after Dusk.

"What did you say to him?" Ava asked when I turned around to see them. "I just told him not to flirt with Dusk," I answered, taking a bite out of my salad. "You're becoming a little possessive over her, can't you see it?" Klaus asked. "It's not possessiveness. I just want to know if she's okay or not. She's scaring me,"
