Seven: Infidelity

The school day seemed normal, and this time I rarely saw Carmelita, we only crossed paths whenever we were at lunch, this time she didn't say anything, all she did was give me a dirty look that silently said, "Watch your back," I wasn't going to let a 4'7 teenager scare me, besides I was taller than her, and I had friends who would step in and help me.

After I visited the counselor, I heard the bell ring, and it meant that it was time for the next period. English was one of my favorite subjects, and we were talking about the story of Anna Karenina. That was one of my favorite books in the family library, I can remember countless days where I would be curled up on one of the sofas with the large book in hand, and reading about how a daring life of impulsive passion led to tragedy for Ms. Karenina.

"I want each of you to write a 5 paragraph essay talking about the central theme of the story, please include examples from the story to support your theme, it will be due next Monday so I suggest you get to work on it tonight," Ms. Scheiska said as the bell rang for 6th period. I was excited to get to Drama as well, my mother had always wanted to go into acting, but because she fell in love with my father, she traded her dreams for him.

"Good afternoon class, I hope you all are ready because today we're going to talking about how to make your audience feel your character's emotions," Mr. Olaf said after clearing his throat. I'll admit, he didn't seem like a good actor, but he was the only drama teacher at Denouement High so he was the best I could get.

After half an hour, I asked Mr. Olaf if I could go to the bathroom, and he permitted me to leave. I walked through the halls in search of the bathroom, even though I knew my way around the school, it was hard to find the bathroom because of the large amount of doors that were on each side of the hall.

I finally found the bathroom, but the moment I stepped inside, I heard kissing sounds, I had no idea where it was coming from, it couldn't have been coming from any of the stalls, they were all open. But, there was a small closet in the corner, that was the only place where those sounds could've been coming from. I was careful enough to not give away my position, and when my hand finally touched the doorknob, I yanked the door open and I was surprised to discover that Fiona and another boy were inside.

"What the hell?" I gasped now knowing that Klaus's girlfriend was nothing but a cheating snake. "Oh my god, who are you?" Fiona shrieked. "It doesn't matter who I am, all you need to know is that I am one of Klaus Baudelaire's friends, you know your actual boyfriend?" I said through gritted teeth. The boy ran out of the closet after wiping off lipstick from his face, leaving me and Fiona alone in the bathroom.

"Please, don't tell Klaus about this! He'll hate me for the rest of his life!" Fiona begged. "Why shouldn't I tell him? You cheated on him, I think he deserves to know what his girlfriend is doing behind his back," Fiona's face was turning bright pink with embarrassment. I could tell she didn't expect to get caught, especially by one of Klaus's friends.

"Look, I know you have the power to ruin my relationship, but please don't, because if this gets out, I would lose everything," Fiona said through obvious fake tears. "Give me three good reasons why I shouldn't tell him, and we'll see," I said. It took a while for her to give me an answer, and the way she said it proved to me that she would do something like this again.

"Because I love him?" She said hoping that I would accept her answer. "Well, if you did love him, you wouldn't have cheated on him," I said about to walk out the door. "Wait, please, I'll do whatever you want me to do," she begged. I looked back at her with my hand still on the door handle. If Fiona and Klaus were to break up, then Veronica could swoop in and comfort him, and then they could become a couple, if I play my cards right.

"You need to admit to Klaus what you have done, you have twenty-four hours to do so, I will be checking in on him, and if he doesn't say one word about you cheating on him, then I will tell him myself," I said firmly. "O-Okay," she said. I could tell she was fake crying, I knew what fake crying looked like from watching all those soap operas.

"I hope you tell him because it would hurt him deeply if one of his friends told him about it," I said before leaving the bathroom.
