Fifteen: Spin the Bottle

When I walked inside the Quagmire Mansion, I was greeted with laughter and music as people continued their conversations with their friends. My eyes quickly scanned the sitting room, trying to find any of the Quagmire triplets. I walked towards the living room, where I saw a group of people sitting on the floor, about to play spin the bottle. "Dusk! You made it!" Veronica said when she looked over at me. I walked towards the group and took a seat between Veronica and Duncan. "So, we're playing Spin the bottle?" I asked.

Isadora chuckled and placed the bottle in the center of the circle. It was a clear beer bottle with the logo of a local brewery on the wrapping. "Isn't it obvious?" She smiled. I had heard of Spin the bottle before, but I didn't know how the game worked. "How it works is you spin the bottle, and whoever the person lands on, you have to kiss them," Veronica whispered into my ear. "Thanks," I whispered to her, my gaze focused on that bottle for a moment. I then looked up at the circle, looking around to see who I have the possibility to kiss. I saw Klaus, Duncan, Veronica, Sander, Isadora, and a few other people, who I didn't know.

But, there was one person who I didn't expect to be in this game. A few people to my right, I saw the familiar short brown hair of Quigley. My heart started to pound inside my chest, as the image of Quigley and I kissing appeared in my head. I had only dreamed about kissing him in my dreams, and now I might be able to make that dream a reality at this Halloween party. "Alright, who's going to go first?" Isadora asked. "Uh, I'll go," Duncan said, raising his hand slightly. He leaned towards the bottle, sitting on his knees.

I could see small beads of sweat were running down his face, biting his lip in nervousness. He spun the bottle, and I began praying to God that the bottle would not land on me. As the bottle began to slow down, the tip looked like it was going to point to me, but to my surprise, it landed on Violet. She let out a small gasp and leaned in close to Duncan, slowly crawling over to him as the others started letting small oohs and teasing Violet. Her lips crashed onto Duncan's, and the others started clapping as they finished the kiss.

As the game continued, Violet couldn't stop blushing and looking over at Duncan, Duncan was the same way. "Alright, Dusk. It's your turn," Isadora said, trying to hide a smile on her face. I took a deep breath and slowly let it out as I reached over to the bottle and spun it. Please don't land on someone gross, please. The bottle began to slowly come to a stop, and it got closer to this one boy who had a bunch of pimples on his face. Not that there was anything wrong with having pimples. But I wanted my first kiss to be with someone special. Someone like Quigley.

I buried my face in my hands, and when I heard the sound of people letting out small ooo's, I looked towards the bottle and followed the pointer to see that it had not landed on the boy with pimples, but instead it had landed on Quigley. I felt my cheeks begin to turn a deep red, and inside my head, I was screaming. I was about to have my first kiss with Quigley, freaking Quagmire. Quigley crawled over to me until he was a few feet away from kissing my lips. "Are you sure you want to do this?" Quigley whispered.

I was surprised that Quigley was giving me the opportunity to back out and leave the game. Quigley seemed like the confident kind of guy. Is he a bad kisser? Is he nervous that he's going to screw up the kiss? "Yeah," I nodded. I leaned in slightly closer to Quigley, he followed suit, and we kept leaning closer and closer to each other until our noses were about to touch. I tilted my head slightly, and without a second thought, I crashed my lips onto his. Immediately, I felt him kiss me back. I didn't care if people were cheering or saying, "Get it, girl!" All that matter at that moment was sharing my first kiss with Quigley.

The kiss lasted for longer than a minute because Quigley and I couldn't pull out of it. "Get a room!" Klaus called out. That got our attention, and Quigley and I finally pulled apart and saw everyone was staring and chuckling at us. Instantly, I started to feel regret for what I had gotten myself into. "I have to go," I said, standing up and walking out of the room as the others starting laughing at the small make-out session that Quigley and I had in front of them.

I ran towards the kitchen and grabbed myself a water bottle, and drank it all within a minute, but that lump in my throat wouldn't go away. "You alright?" the voice of a girl asked. I discarded the bottle in the trash, and I saw a blonde-haired girl was looking over at me as she took a sip from her red plastic cup. "Yeah, I'm fine," I lied, grabbing another water bottle from the fridge. "You don't look alright. You seem a little pale," the girl responded, walking closer to me.

"It's just my skin tone," I sighed. The girl genuinely seemed concerned about me, but considering that I had never met her, I wasn't going to tell her about what happened between me and my crush. "I'm Ava, Ava Quadrenium," she said, holding out her hand for me to shake. "Dusk Denouement, Hi," I said, gently shaking her hand. Her eyes went wide after I told her my name. "No way, your the headmaster's daughter! I see you in Chemistry all the time!" She smiled. I hadn't noticed that she was in my class, I was mostly focused on Mrs. Quagmire's lectures and thinking about Quigley, but it was nice to meet another girl.

"Joey, come here!" Ava called out. A boy with short brown almost looked identical to Quigley, but instead of having those beautiful brown eyes that I could drown in, the boy had light green eyes and a small smile. "This is my new friend, Dusk. Dusk, this is my best friend, Joey O' Neill," Ava introduced us. I shook his hand, and we spent a lot of time talking to each other. I looked back at the group who continued playing the game of Spin the bottle. Veronica looked over at me, and from a distance, I could see that she looked a little sad. She mouthed the words "I'm sorry," but I nodded, silently telling her that it was okay.

Then, I went back to the conversation I was having with Ava and Joey. Later on in the night, Veronica left the game, and we started talking in private away from the others. "Look, I know you said that it's okay, but I still can't help but feel guilty," Veronica admitted. "Veronica, it's not your fault. I know you didn't make fun of me. I just didn't expect the kiss between Quigley and me to last for a while," I said. Veronica opened her arms for a hug, and I gladly accepted and embraced her.
