01.) A "New" Start
Now Playing: Pity Party by Melanie Martinez

New Orleans was home to a lot of people, humans and mutants alike. Like any other city, New Orleans had its fair share of gangs, criminals, and others. Deep in the surrounding swamps lived the Assassin's Guild and the Thieves Guild, who had a fierce rivalry that went back hundreds of years. In the inner parts of the city was a cell that belonged to the small mutant group named Dante's Inferno. Dante's Inferno was similar to the X-Men and the Brotherhood as they helped mutants who needed help and welcomed any kind of mutant no matter how dangerous they were.
Former X-Man Remy LeBeau had grown up in New Orleans as part of the Thieves Guild. His mutation made him an outsider with his red and black eyes. Years of his childhood were spent being isolated. As Remy grew, he was betrothed to Bella Donna Boudreaux of the Assassin's Guild. Their to-be-marriage was to bring the two guilds together after years of fighting. But, an accident with Remy's charge powers forced him to be exiled. From there Remy grew up, made mistakes, and found a new family, or so he thought. Left alone to die in the Antarctic by the X-Men and Remy realized he was alone yet again.
For the first time in years, Remy LeBeay stepped foot back in New Orleans, his home town. The mutant never realized how much he missed his home. Nothing seemed to have changed. His chest hurt from his still healing wounds. The thief made himself a small yet easy living through utilizing his thieving skills. How far Remy had fallen, but he always knew his fall was coming. Nothing good ever lasts forever.
Days turned to weeks, and weeks turned to months as Remy waited for anyone to see if he was still alive. No one came looking for him, and that's when Remy realized he was truly alone. He would never go back to the guilds, and he was no longer welcome with the X-Men. Sinister seemed like the only option, butRemy vowed to never go back to that monster.
New Orleans was no longer home. Too close to too many painful memories. Gambit had turned to his survival instincts and took the first train to Virginia. It was a safe, happy medium in between Louisiana and New York. Maybea tad close to New York, but Gambit had no worry about the X-Men. Three months had passed and not one word from or about the X-Men concerning Gambit.
Virginia wasn't as warm or humid as Louisiana nor as cold as New York. ToRemy, it truly was a happy medium. Starting a new life never seemed to take long with Gambit with his charisma and his charm powers. Instead of a rundown apartment, Remy managed to find a decent apartment with all the bare necessities. The only downsides were the pests. Three cats chose to live there and just would not leave. Animal control would come pick them up and by the end of the week the cats would find their way back. Remy didn't mind. They kept him company.
Remy LeBeau found a job as a chef who worked at a local diner in Virginia Beach. Nobody knew of Remy LeBeau, famed thief and X-Man.
Cooking was one of Remy's favorite pastimes. It reminded him of home and he loved what he could create with the right spices and ingredients. On his day off, the mutant went to his favorite bar and got as drunk as he could. his heart had been broken one too many times. Broken by Bella, broken by Rogue, and broken by himself. Remy's past mistakes caught up to him and were now dragging him down.
Alcohol helped Remy escape the demons in his mind, and served as a self-inflicted punishment. Remy deserved the pain of the hangovers and the emotional lows that came after a night of getting wasted. Remy needed, no craved, the pain. He was involved in the Morlock Massacre. All of their blood was in his hands.
Remy grinned as he uppercutted a man in the jaw. The crowd around him egged on the fight. Adrenaline coursed through his veins as the rest of the night became a blur. He remembered bits and pieces of beating the shit out of a few perverts and drunks. But alas, the Cajun had gotten kicked out. Police sirens rang out, and on instinct, Remy ran. Rain poured down from the dark, ominous clouds. Thunder boomed and lightning cracked. The thunder and lightning kept dragging Remy back to the screams and looks of betrayal and pain from his friends when they found out what he did. He shoved his bloody hands into his trench coat pockets and shivered, soaked to the bone.
"Ah! Shit!" Remy paused and looked down the street he walked past. A young girl who looked to be of Hawaiian or Filipino origins raised her steaming fists. No, her fists were really steaming, Remy observed. 'Must be a mutant,' he mused. She was surrounded by men in black suits and guns.
Part of the Cajun wanted to leave the girl to her fate and not get involved, but the hero in him wanted nothing more than to protect the child. 'You don' need another death on yer conscious.' Cursing in French, Remy approached them. "Good evenin'," Remy smiled charismatically, gesturing wildly. "Stormy night, ain't it? What seems ta be de problem here?" He narrowed his eyes and played with the deck of cards in his pocket, assessing the men.
"This doesn't concern you, mutant!" One of the men scoffed, glaring at the Cajun. "Mind your own business–ack!" The girl rushed forward and kicked the man in the dick. Remy bit back a laugh. 'De kid has spunk.' She snarled like an animal and edged back into the shadows, eyes trained on the guns aimed at her.
"You bitch!" The man snarled and his friends attempted to shoot her, but Gambit was faster. He threw three charged cards at the guns. The men dropped them and screamed as the guns blew up in their hands. The girl studied Gambit as if she recognized him.
"You...you're Gambit!"One of them realized. The girl's eyes widened and she mouthed the X-Man's name. Gambit sighed and fought the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose. "What are you doin' here? Yer supposed to be dead!"
"Gambit got bettah," Remy smirked, cracking his knuckles. "Now, Ah suggest you get out of 'ere." The men shared nervous looks and picked up their fists. Gambit shook his head and tutted, slightly disappointed.
"There are four of us and two of them!"the man who was kicked in the dick yelled, anger blazing in his eyes. "Get 'em!" The girl rolled her eyes and scoffed. Of course there was going to be a fight.
"Gambit warned ya." Gambit twirled his bo staff and lunged. The girl went after her first victim and punched him as hard as she could and she squeezed his wrist, burning through his gloves and his skin. He screamed. Gambit beat the other three up with his staff and knocked them out with a few solid hits to the head. The girl wasn't surprised how quickly Gambit ended the fight.
"You alright, chere?" Remy asked the girl who smirked down at the burned man. The older mutant grimaced. Half of her victim's face was badly burned, and his throat was even worse. "Damn."
The girl fidgeted with her coat pockets and stood up. "Thank you for the help, Gambit." She nodded to the mutant and turned to leave.
"Anytime," Remy nodded. "Just tell nobody you saw Gambit." Remy held a finger to his lips.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." The girl ran into the darkness and more rain pelted down. Remy groaned. He put his bo-staff back and left the scene of the crime. 'So much for stayin' low.'
