I had always loved the night even after the story of demons spread. They never stopped me from walking out to admire the stars in the night sky. One night as I walked up Mount Natagumo, I was stopped by a strange voice. "Who are you?" The voice asked me. Sitting up in the trees was a young boy, maybe 12-15 years old, with pale white skin. I smiled as I recognized the boy as a demon. "I'm heading to the summit to watch the stars. You're welcome to join me." I told him. The boy nodded softly and jumped down of the tree. Together we continued on our way. "Woah!" I said as the clouds disperse revealing a night sky glittering with thousands of stars. The boy beside me was amazed as well. "What's that?" He asked as he pointed to a constellation unknown to him. I giggled softly before naming the cluster. "That's the Big Dipper." For the rest of the night that's how our time together went, he would pick a constellation and I named it. "Speaking of names young one." I spoke. "What is yours?" The boy smiled softly. "Rui. What about you?" He said. "[Y/N]." The sky soon turned a pale blue as dawn approached. "We should head back." I said. "Yeah. Will I see you again?" Rui questioned me. "Of course." With that we parted ways. Over the next few months we became closer; a bond forming between us made of love instead of fear. I learned his story and he learned mine. We cared for each other. One night as I made my nightly trip to his house, I came across the dead body of his elder 'sister'. She had died due to wisteria poisoning. "Oh no Rui!" I cried out as I raced up the mountain; all the while praying I'd find him before the demon slayers did. It wasn't long before I heard his voice. "You're like endless torrent of insignificant insects, constantly getting in my way." I burst though the trees just as Rui activated his Blood Demon Art. "Rui!" I cried out causing the boy to drop his threads. "[Y/N]?!" He gasped softly as I threw my arms around him. "What are you doing?" The demon slayer questioned. "I'm protecting my friend!" I yelled as I turned to face the black-haired man. "But he's a demon." He said. "I don't care. If you kill him then you're gonna have to kill me too." I said as I pulled Rui to my side. The demon curled his arms around me like a child would their mother as I continued to glare at the man. "Fine by me." And with that the man decapitated both human and demon. "Why [Y/N]?" Rui asked as our lives faded away. "Because I told you that I'll stand by you even in your darkest hour." And with that we took our final breaths together with him still clinging on to me.
