36. Bait

The next day, we patrolled the streets of Brasília, keeping an eye out for any signs of the cult members. It wasn't long before we spotted a group of them, their marked tattoos a clear giveaway.

I exchanged glances with Iu and Iris, nodding to indicate that it was time to put our plan into action. I took a deep breath and stepped forward, deliberately drawing the attention of the cultists.

"Hey!" I shouted, raising my hands in surrender. "I'm the one you're looking for."

The cultists seemed surprised by my sudden appearance but quickly recovered. They approached me cautiously, their eyes scanning the area for any signs of an ambush. As they neared, I could see the eagerness in their eyes, excited at the prospect of capturing me.

They quickly surrounded me, one of them barking orders as they grabbed my arms and restrained me. I didn't resist, allowing them wrap several loops of iron chain around me. The cultists exchanged smug looks, clearly satisfied with their prize.

With a rough shove, they guided me towards a nondescript van parked nearby. They forced me inside, pushing me onto the cold metal floor. The doors slammed shut behind me, plunging the van into darkness. The only sound was the hum of the engine as the van started moving, taking me deeper into the clutches of the cult.

As we drove away, I could only hope that Ines and her team had seen my capture and were preparing to follow through with our plan. There was no turning back now.

After several hours of driving, the van came to a sudden stop, and my blindfold was roughly removed. Blinking against the harsh light, I found myself inside what appeared to be an Amazonian-style camp. The makeshift structures were constructed from a mix of natural materials and salvaged debris, blending seamlessly into the dense jungle surroundings.

The cultist who had removed my blindfold grabbed me by the chains that bound me and forced me to my feet. He led me through the camp, the curious gazes of other cult members following our progress. Eventually, we arrived at a small clearing with a pedestal at its center.

I was forced to kneel in front of the pedestal, my chains digging painfully into my skin. The cultist stepped back, a cruel grin on his face as he watched me struggle against my bonds.

A moment later, a new figure emerged from one of the nearby huts. He was over 2 meters tall muscular build, he had dark skin, bald, and his eyes were hid behind a pair of dark shades. He had an imposing and commanding presence that immediately captured the attention of everyone in the clearing. His dark eyes seemed to burn with an inner fire, and as they fell upon me, I felt a chill run down my spine.

This, I realized, must be one of the higher-ranking members of the cult, if not their leader. And I couldn't help but subconsciously gulp.

I stared up at the man, trying to maintain my composure despite the unsettling aura that seemed to surround him. He fixed his gaze on me, his eyes narrowing as he spoke.

"I've heard a lot about you," he said, his voice low and menacing. "Killing the demon in my arena, eating its heart, and then becoming one of us." He gritted his teeth, the muscles in his jaw working as he continued, "You've certainly made a name for yourself, haven't you?"

I couldn't tell if his tone was one of admiration or disdain, but I knew better than to respond. Instead, I simply held his gaze, waiting for him to make the next move.

"You must think you're quite something, don't you?" he continued, taking a step closer. "But you're still just a demon. And here, in this camp, you will learn your place."

As he spoke, it dawned on me that this man was none other than the aspect of wrath himself. The intensity of his presence, the barely-contained fury that seemed to radiate from him - it all made sense. I could only hope that Ines and the others would arrive soon, before the wrathful demon had a chance to make good on his threats.

"Where are your companions?" the man asked.

"Companions?" I feigned confusion, trying to buy some time. "I don't know what you're talking about."

The man's eyes narrowed even further, and he leaned in closer, his face mere inches from mine. "Don't play dumb with me," he hissed. "I know you've been traveling with a group. A demon and an android, isn't it?"

I swallowed hard, trying to keep my fear from showing. "They're nothing to me," I lied, hoping to throw him off. "Just temporary allies. I have no idea where they are now."

The man scrutinized me for a moment, seemingly trying to discern if I was telling the truth. Then, with a sudden, swift motion, he backhanded me across the face, knocking me 10 meters away.

"You will tell me where they are," he growled, his voice filled with rage as he walked over to me. "Or you will suffer the consequences."

"I will take the consequences." I spat out blood with my head face sideways and body still bound by chains.

"I don't like torture, I like a fair fight." the man said as he shifted his hand into a blade.

Then with one swift motion, the man's blade-like hand slashed through the chains binding me, and they fell to the ground with a loud clatter. I got up slowly as I regained my balance, still feeling the lingering effects of the long journey to this place.

The aspect of wrath grinned, clearly enjoying the prospect of a fight. He stepped back a few paces, giving me room to move, but never taking his eyes off me.

"Now let's see what you are made of." He said with a wicked grin.

Fk.
