31. Scent of prey

Ines, Alaric, and Selene prepared for their journey to Brasília. They gathered their gear, including their weapons, protective clothing, and essential supplies. Once everything was packed and ready, they set out from the Vatican, heading towards their destination.

They traveled by a private Vatican jet, a sleek and discreet aircraft designed for rapid transportation of the Church's agents. As the jet soared high above the clouds, the three demon hunters took the opportunity to familiarize themselves with each other's abilities and fighting styles. They knew that understanding and trusting one another would be vital to the success of their mission.

"Sol, 24, human turned demon. He was detained in Calypso Island for killing 12 people during his teen years. He's killed 20 people and more since he escaped. He is a highly cunning and intelligent target, our orders is to kill on sight. Any more questions?" Ines said to her two subordinates.

"How did he become a demon?" Selene asked.

"He ate a demon's heart when he was captured by the O Sacrifício. He later broke out and murdered several of its members." Ines said with a monotone voice.

"Who are those two?" Alaric said with a twinge of middle boy excitement, as pointed to the two figures next to Sol on the picture.

"The pink hair girl is one of the entourages from Calypso Island, the white hair girl is believed to be a demon, but her true identity is currently unknown." Ines said.

"I can't wait to meet them!" Alaric said with a excited voice but quickly changed his words. "No, wait, I meant, I can't wait to vanquish them for good!"

Selene looked at Sol's photo with a dreamy sigh, Ines closed her eyes to sleep. It was going to be a long ride.

The jet touched down in Brasília late in the evening, its landing carefully orchestrated to avoid drawing attention.

As the trio of demon hunters prowled through the streets of Brasília, Ines stopped in the her tracks and held up a hand, her party stopped.

"Ma'am?" Alaric asked.

Ines sniffed a few times then shifted all her focus onto her smell.

Her pale eyes narrowed as she inhaled deeply, sifting through the myriad of scents carried on the night air. At first, she detected only the familiar odors of the city: car exhaust, garbage, and the enticing aroma of food from nearby street vendors. However, she continued to concentrate, her senses sharpening with each breath.

Suddenly, she caught it: the unmistakable, acrid stench of demonic presence. It was faint, but it was there, like a distant whisper on the wind. Ines's expression remained impassive, but there was a newfound intensity in her eyes as she honed in on the scent, pinpointing its origin.

She turned to Alaric and Selene, who had been watching her carefully. "I've found them," she stated, her voice devoid of emotion. "They are approximately three miles from here, in the direction of the slums."

Without waiting for a response, Ines set off towards the source of the scent, her pace brisk and purposeful. Alaric and Selene exchanged quick glances before following her, their own senses heightened with anticipation.

As they moved through the city, the demonic scent grew stronger, confirming that they were on the right path. Ines led them through narrow alleys, bustling streets, and even across a rooftop or two, her keen sense of smell serving as their infallible guide.

Finally, the trio reached the slums, where the modern metropolis gave way to the run down slums. The scent of the demons was much stronger now, a testament to their proximity. Ines halted, her expression as unreadable as ever, and addressed her companions.

"We are close," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Prepare yourselves. The confrontation is at hand."

Alaric and Selene nodded, their faces set with determination. As the three demon hunters descended the stairs, they knew that the time had come to face their quarry and put an end to the threat posed by Sol and his companions.
